[The Avatar does turn to face her as she speaks. But there's no indication of any recognition. No sign of Aang, just yet.]

[ katara feels a surge of -- something. alarm, maybe, and she suddenly doesn't know if the frustration she's feeling is at him or at herself for being unable to bring him back. she stares at the avatar when he turns to face her, mouth suddenly dry, and forces a power that she doesn't really feel into her voice. ]

I don't want to be here. I don't think either of us should be. I'm scared, Aang. But I'm not leaving here without you.

["I'm scared, Aang."

"But I'm not leavingg here without you."

Some words echo and reverberate within the boy's spirits.

For a moment, the glowing lights start to blink. And then, the Avatar is on the ground, taking two steps towards her before stopping. It's like there's a struggle within, against the planet's pull.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ it's not aang that she's afraid of. no, she could never be scared of him - but she knows firsthand how easily people were changed, manipulated in paradisa, and even though the pull of this planet feels nothing like the castle, it's the closest thing that she has to relate it to.

so when he takes two steps toward her, she takes three steps back, away from him, wariness and caution on her face. ]

[The expression on her face registers without the actual reason behind it. The small voice trying to break through is hurt and confused.

And the Avatar's glow intensifies. The gaze now lifts, looking up past Katara, and he starts to life into the air again.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ she swallows hard, shutting her eyes briefly to quash the wave of anxiety, before charging ahead again. toward him, trying to reach for his hand again if he'll let her. ]

No, don't- you should stay here with me. Alright?

[She can take his hand. His gaze immediately shifts back towards Katara, with a piercing glare. But, although he remains floating in the air at the moment, his ascent has come to a halt.

Maybe, just maybe, he's listening.]

This is far enough, right? We can just camp here for the night. Listen to nature, like we used to at home.

[ they have no supplies. no bedrolls, no food, and she has precious little water to protect them with. but she's starting to think that this might be the best compromise that she can make. ]

[She's trying. She's trying so hard to make it work and it hurts. And it gives strength all the same.

The Avatar floats back down to the ground, facing her for a quiet moment. And then, he shifts forward to quietly hug her, as the glow dies out.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ she tenses only briefly when he hugs her, before winding her arms around him and returning the gesture fiercely. she doesn't know how long it's going to last - if he's going to stay grounded like this or not, but she seems like she's doing her best to keep him physically grounded for now, if absolutely nothing else. ]

[The hug seems to cement his transition, and he buries his head into Katata's shoulder for the moment. And, the glow fades, Aang's own hug seems to be tight, as he mutters.]

I'm so sorry...

[He does pull back quickly, however - facing the way they came from this time.]

We should get out of here, Katara. While we still can!

[kyasdaughter]

-- Aang?

[ her fingers grip and flex on his sleeve, just in surprised alarm, before she releases him and nods. there'll be time to talk about this when night isn't falling on this weird planet. ]

Yeah. Do you know how to get back to the shuttle?

K- Katara. [He's worried at the moment. He might be fighting the pull, but the pull is still there. So he wants to get out of here as soon as possible.]

Umm... Don't we just have to go back the way we came?

[kyasdaughter]

Do you remember which way that is?

[ she sounds hopeful here, 'cause... she'd been paying more attention to him than the path he'd chosen. ]

W-well... [Now he looks more uncertain as he tries to think about it.]

I was facing this way, right? A-and I was trying to go deeper in. So shouldn't the way out just be... the reverse? [He raises an eyebrow as he glances in that direction.]

[kyasdaughter]

Yeah... um, yeah. That sounds right.

[ she's trying to sound encouraging here... so she clears her throat and starts in the way he'd indicated, just because there's no time to waste anymore. ]

[Luckily, any amount of assertion from Katara will do the trick right now. With a nod, Aang conjures up a fire in his hands to light the way.]

Great! I... I thought so. So... let's go! [And he starts to proceed ahead in that direction.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ yup, she is grateful for that little bit of light, and she's going to be sticking close to him as they backtrack. eventually, though, she'll ask: ]

Are you feeling alright?

[savedtheworld]

I... I think I'm alright. I'm a little tired... [From using the Avatar State.]

And... and I still feel that feeling. Of... wanting to stay. [He glances towards her for a moment.] But you're here, Katara. So... I'm gonna be alright.

[kyasdaughter]

[ she shoots him a sidelong glance, and her smile is earnest but a little strained - if only because she's anxious to get out of here before she agrees that they should stay. ]

Sokka was nervous about letting us come to the planet, but... I told him we could get through anything together. Let's just prove me right, okay?

[savedtheworld]

[It's actually heartwarming to hear that, and he smiles right back. His free hand gives a reassuring pat on Katara's shoulder as he tries to dismiss his own anxieties.]

You know... I believe the same thing, Katara. Don't worry, I'm more than ready to prove Sokka wrong. I'm sure that we'll be out of here in no time! [Maybe. But if they're not staying, the forest may be growing displeased with their presence.]

[kyasdaughter]

[ and katara is not exactly a master swampbender. she's just gonna... hastily start in the direction she hopes they came from, here. ]

[And onward they go! Carefully, cautiously but also frantically. He does try to give a nervous reassuring smile. But it's hard to get a good footing all of a sudden - where are all these roots tangled along the ground coming from?]
