[The face that appears on screen belongs to a very attractive young man. He grins, as if he hasn't a care in the world, and something about that smile is irredeemably charming.

When he speaks, he has a gentle English accent.]

This is a reality programme then? Do we have a theme song, do you think? Do we get nicknames based on our personalities?

Is one of us the bitchy one? Or the cute one? Or the bad boy?

[He shifts a bit. The smile takes on a more mischievous edge and it seems to bring out dimples in his cheeks. His movement also allows the viewer to see his augment, which is very visible and takes up all of the space behind his ear. Whatever is in his head, they needed a lot of hardware to control it.]

If so, I want to the cute-but-lazy-one-with-dimples. Is that one already taken?

[He looks around, taking in what's around him, and for a moment, something a little dangerous seems to appear in him, though it's just the tail hint of it resting on the edge of his face and tone.]

I have to say, if you're expecting me to be impressed by the fact that reality can be altered so much that I'm here and not home, whoever is behind this has a lot of catching up to do.

[And then whatever that dangerous edge was, it's gone.]

You'll have to contest with my dog, who seems to be quite fond of making my shoes disappear.

Though now I have worry about him, thank you very much. Dog's rubbish without me around to take care of him.

[Now he's rambling, but at least he seems comfortable while doing it.]

Welcome aboard, cute-but-lazy-one-with-dimples. [he smiles, on the edge of a laugh. that a charming little introduction.] I've been going for a "mysterious flirt" niche, myself. Hard to say if it's working, but it's good to have goals.

My loss, technically. Have you been told much about the place yet, or are you still in need of a metaphorical tour guide?

Ah, you mean... about the ratings?

The ratings, the augments, the ship transfers. I don't want to bore you if you've already heard it.

What typically would get your ratings up?

Well, mine seem to go up with every new round of trouble that comes my way... [his laugh is much more dry, this time.] And I can also say, with utmost certainty, that the audience thinks I'm a hilarious drunk. The other ups and downs are harder to pinpoint.

I'm not sure if it's the same for other people.

What sort of trouble usually comes your way?

All sorts. I have a knack for befriending the dramatic types, I think.

[he waves his hand a little.]

I suppose people also try to kill us, every once in a while.

Dramatic types can be more fun.

Trying to kill you, though, is much less fun.

Mm, generally less, yes. Especially these attempts, not nearly enough witty banter for my tastes.

What a shame. Witty banter is much more entertaining.

So what job have they landed you with, cute-but-lazy-one?

Engineer. I'm not sure how that's going to work. I was in community development back home.
