[ As promised, in a few days time, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan make their way to the markets. They dress warmly, Obi-Wan procuring a thick cloak for himself. It's hard to feel like a Jedi Master without one.

He watches as Ahsoka flits from stall to stall as he lingers behind her, to correct her on her "bargaining" technique. In a way, they resemble a teenager, saddled with a wiser all-knowing uncle. He strokes his beard in light amusement. This is probably what he needed right now, a reassessment of his priorities, the here and now. ]

[More than a few stalls sell tea - and well, when there's good tea, Stefan isn't far behind. Right as he finishes his purchase, he catches sight of Obi-Wan and Ahsoka.

His smile, although polite before, grows far more genuine as he approaches them.]

Hey. What're you guys looking for?

[beardstrokes]

I'm afraid what I'm searching would hardly be found here. I'm mostly assisting my - [ Padawan, except she's not. ] - friend here in learning some life skills.

Such as the way of the bargain.

Ah. [sympathetic wince] I'm sure Ahsoka'll get the hang of it soon. If not this planet, then definitely the one after it.

I have the utmost confidence in her. She's always surpassed her teachers.

[ In fact, he seems a bit out of place, compared to lively Ahsoka, who is quite happily bustling about. ]

I wouldn't have guessed any less.

[Wait, this guy just mentioned her teachers. Stefan furrows his brow.]

Do you know her from back home? Er, are you from her universe?

Her galaxy. The universe is far too wide for such an admission. But, to clarify it further, her master was once my padawan. In a way, she was my student.

Ah. [One day, he'll figure out the proper terminology for that question. One day.] She's lucky to have you around, then.

[ "Luck has nothing to do with it" is the instinctive response. He needs to rein himself in. ]

I'm sure she'll do fine even without me here.

Probably, but I'm grateful to have people from home. It makes this place easier to bare.

[He pauses, holding out his hand] I'm Stefan, by the way.

[ He shakes it firmly. ] I am Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Is this place that hard to bear? Some experiences must come to mind.

Sometimes. Traveling between planets is usually peaceful, but we've been attacked by an enemy fleet before - and Atroma tends to be radio-silent when we should hear from them most.

[It would've been really nice to hear from them after the attack, but nope.]

[ He strokes his beard lightly. Strange that an enemy fleet would engage with them. Where does the Atroma stand with the rest of the galaxy? How do the communications?

Shame there are no answers for many of these questions. ]

I'll have to say. The Atroma don't behave like any other species I've ever met - and I've come across my fair share.

Is that so? Atroma's giving outer space travel a bad rep, then. For a lot of us, this is the first time we've even left our home planet.

[And so by extension, Atroma's their first real tussle with politics spanning whole galaxies. Stefan's a fish out of water here, and he knows it.]

I can't help but feel like we're going to be on the move again soon, so I want to be prepared...

That's pretty smart. We usually stay about a month? Give or take a week.

[He gestures towards his own bags, filled with loose-leaf tea, hot cocoa, and other random foodstuffs]

Wish I could be more help, but uh - as it is, I let my engineer handle the tech.

Huh. Guess my instinct was right, then.

And don't worry about it. Who's your engineer? Maybe I can ask them a few questions.

Oh, it's Kirito Kirigaya. [At least, that's how his name'll show up in the registry.] He's always fiddling with something or another, so he'll know a thing or two.

Hmmm. Never heard of him. Thanks, though. I'll look him up.

No problem. Just let him know I sent you - and uh, use voice when you call him.

[His crewmate might not be so good with Common, or English, or any variant in-between.]

What about food? You letting other crew handle that?

[resnipstance]

Sure. I can do that. ... Any particular reason why voice? [She's curious.]

As for food... I'm afraid I haven't really made any progress since last time. [She looks a little bit sheepish.]

Our augments don't usually translate text. So when we write, it's in our dominant language - and for Kirito, that's Japanese.

[He kind of figured. So his smile's a sympathetic one] That's alright. I usually play cards with Yosuke between planets, so if you'd like... we can have another lesson when I'm over there.

I'd like that! We should play cards sometimes, too. Space travel without hyperspace is boring.

Definitely. It's way more fun when we've got a big group.

[Nevermind that their card games are more along the lines of Spoon and Mr. President and Egyptian War. Poker with Yosuke isn't much fun, just because that boy can't bluff.]

Hyperspace's like... it makes space travel really fast, right?

That's right! Really fast. It makes it possible to travel from one end of the galaxy to another.

So that's how you future people do it. [He's teasing but only partially] Must've been too expensive for Atroma to splurge on.
