Captain's Log 03 - Landing Party

Action: Yes - On the moon, in the Terraformers

Tests have been run, data has been gathered, packaged, looked over, highlighted with all sorts of colored sharpies. There is only so much the data can prove. What's needed now is an actual investigation, getting the final clue to a puzzle that, Kirk thought, they were running very short of time on.

Which was how he ended up down on the surface of the toxic moon, in front of the nearest terraformer.

Time to go find some answers.

<sub>[ ooc: Since I didn't want to flood the comm, it can be assumed that Kirk announced he would be going to explore the terraformers and asked if anyone wanted to come and form an expedition party. So, if you want to come, feel free to jump in.

[he debated for a long time whether or not to come down as himself, rather than as he is now. While the moon was relatively safe in general, he'd never been here, and he was admittedly a little paranoid. But eventually, he decided that it wasn't just a few of them, and if he had to it wasn't as though he couldn't force a switch anyway.

But from the beginning of this little adventure, Hank has had his head half-buried in a notebook he brought along, taking notes on . . . well, practically everything. Descriptions as they walk around, quick sketches in the margins to better explain some of it, detailing as much as he can in the event that they need the information later on.

Every so often, though, you might hear him mutter something under his breath, a curse or an exclamation of "This is amazing/fascinating", just loud enough for anyone nearby to hear]

[While people like Hank took notes, Allen was mostly watching their surroundings. He had mostly volunteered to go along as a form of security, after all. Since in his experience, exploring old ruins and machines usually resulted in a lot of problems]

[But so far the way has been peaceful, which was a relief. He starts to feel relaxed enough to get curious when Hank mutters yet again about this being amazing.]

What is it?

[it takes a moment for the voice to register, and he jerks his head up and blinks a few times before glancing to Allen. Was he talking out loud again? Sometimes he got carried away with what he was doing and wouldn't realize it until someone pointed it out - or told him to shut up, in most cases.

He looks a little sheepish at being caught] Just - all of it. I'm easily amazed. [they're inside a terraformer it's like a nerd's dream]

[He just offers a friendly smile in return of his shieepish look]

Well, it is a pretty amazing structure. I'm a little impressed by it as well.

[he returns the smile, nodding his agreement]

I've never seen anything like it. There's nothing like this in my world at all.

Mine neither.

Where are you from?

New York, 1973. [a pause, and then he adds] Ah - on Earth, if you're not familiar.

What about you?

[He grins a little]

England, 1898.

I've been to New York though. Great city, I love the food.

It does have great food. [an important thing to figure out about any city] I can't say I've been to England - yet, I've wanted to go for a while.

If you don't mind rain, I'd recommend it. Though, I couldn't tell you what it's like in the 1970's.

Mm, no, I don't mind rain. We get it pretty often where I'm living. [with a straight face] So far, it's bad fashion choices and decent music. The food's still good, though.

Oh-?

[!!! It clicks, and he suddenly starts speaking very eagerly]

Oh, oh! That's right! You're in the decade when Queen is performing! [Amazing!!] Have you been to any of their concerts??

[beathach]

[oh no, oh no Allen don't ask Hank about pop culture]

I - am not sure if I know who Queen is. But I can safely say I've never been to a concert.

[Hank is not the only one taking notes - and honestly it should be no surprise that sooner or later Tyrion runs into Hank while paying more attention to his notes than what was coming up in front of him.

Muttering an apology, he looked up, then grinned.] Well, well, it seems we will be meeting over mechanics as opposed to drinks.

[beathach]

[there's a muttered apology in return as Hank finishes what he's writing before he glances down at the familiar voice. There's no awkward fumbling this time, nor any nervousness in his tone, and he doesn't hesitate to shift pen and notebook to one hand so he can offer it to Tyrion]

A different kind of enjoyment. [a small grin] It's good to meet you in person, sir.

[tallasaking]

[Now Tyrion's mile stretches from ear to ear, as he lets out a laugh.]

Entirely, and much less likely to end in our having wicked hang-overs. [He took the other man's hand, and shook it firmly.]

You as well, ser.

I don't know about you, but a hangover is worth it for a night of escapism. [which really, is the only reason he ever drinks. He's had a hangover all of a handful of times and would still take that over some of the stress he's been through lately.

But he slows his walk to keep up with Tyrion's, almost unconsciously. Being as tall as he is, he's always been the sort to compensate for that]

For myself? I agree wholeheartedly. There is nothing I like better than escaping my rather dismal reality. [He has had a hangover for what seems to be a fourth of his life and he would not trade it for any of the misery.

He nods his thanks at Hank, while picking up his own pace a little.]

It's not a habit I indulge in often, but sometimes it's nice not being able to think straight every now and then. [he'd avoided it back home, mostly because he lived with an alcoholic, but now that Charles wasn't doing it nearly as often and he was as stressed as he was, well. It meant he could indulge a little more]

Oh, I cannot deny that. Sometimes I simply wish to forget just precisely why I am angry or disappointed in humanity. [He just needed to keep some sort of distance between his angry moments. He knows he's dangerous when he's angry.]

[beathach]

[ah, yes. Something Hank can sympathize with, very, very deeply]

Humanity can be pretty disappointing at times. [or angering, or terrifying. He'd seen all aspects of it in his relatively short life] I hope you don't experience that here as often.

[tallasaking]

Not a often as I was used to, in my world. I ... trust you are not going into the same bad behaviors.

Not as often, no. But I admittedly cheat a little bit and hide. [he makes a gesture to himself]

[tallasaking]

[Tyrion reached up to put his hand on Hank's arm, his gaze amused but serious.] My dear Hank, if I could make myself six feet tall at a whim, I would. No shame in it.

[beathach]

Being six foot isn't all that great, trust me. [but the comment makes him laugh a little] I'm not ashamed, it's just how it is. I have reasons aside from hiding, at least.
