[Beverly is onscreen, the Blue Fish's med bay, still intact, behind her. Her jaw is set with determination as she talks.]

Attention, Drift Fleet. This is Dr. Beverly Crusher of the USS... of the SS Blue Fish. I know some of you have taken significant damage to your ships, possibly to your sickbays, and that others do not have a medic on board. Fortunately, our sickbay survived the attack, so I am offering it as a central location to help the wounded while repairs are being made elsewhere. We have a small supply of blood on hand as well, should anyone need it. If any member of your crew is too severely injured to be moved, please let me know, and I will come to you. No payments will be necessary for any treatment.

Thank you for your time.

[She signs off with a grim smile.]

Doctor. [ There's a smile for the introduction, strained but genuine. ] My name is O'danya Mitnu. Permit me the chance to come aboard and aid in the healing? My abilities are on the side of arcanism rather than conjury, but mayhaps I would be of use anyway.

[Beverly frowns slightly in confusion.]

I would be happy to have some help but... I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "arcanism."

Arcanism is the art by which you draw out aetherial energies through use of complex and precise geometric patterns. It is very much a different art from conjury, where you would borrow your energies from the elementals in order to provide life.

If you would like, I could show you.

[Tilting her head slightly. All of this is totally foreign to Beverly... the most she can gather is that there is some sort of elemental manipulation involved.]

Perhaps that would be best, yes. We're docked at the waystation, if you would like to come aboard.

[ She nods. ]

I will be there momentarily.

[ Which isn't as easy of a feat as she makes it sound, but sooner or later she's arrived to the Blue Fish in a rather strange getup considering her claims. She has her book out and is flipping through the pages as she walks, a practiced and easy motion. ]

Doctor?

[Beverly's seen plenty of strange outfits in her time. This one is actually fairly tame.]

[When O'danya arrives, the sickbay is empty except for Beverly and she's just finishing cleaning everything up.]

Ah, hello! Welcome to the Blue Fish.

[ It's a relief to see not many have reported in for injuries. Although it could mean something much worse, O'danya resolves to make rounds on other ships or at least ask if anyone is unable to leave their ship at all later on.

For now, she smiles pleasantly at the sight and raises her free hand in greeting. ]

Well met. It would seem our concerns only extend as far as ship injuries rather than to the crew. Regardless, I believe you've been promised an example of my capabilities in case of future disaster?

We were lucky, this time, but I'm certain Atroma will be throwing something like this at us again and we need to be prepared.

[She smiles.] So show me what you got!

Are we certain it was Atroma? [ She isn't convinced. There's always the possibility of a second entity out there and she's not going to discount it. ]

Regardless, allow me to introduce you to a friend of mine.

[ She pulls out her book and begins to write while placing her own aether into the enchanted ink to draw out the power. Soon enough, Eos appears in a light burst of magic. Inside of the light she generates, there's a mute smile and a bow for O'danya, who beams back. ]

How did you do that?

Arcanism. Rather, the application of ancient Nymian arcanism using more modern practices.

[ Eos turns to see Beverly there, and does a mid-air curtsey to greet her. It's obvious fairy and miqo'te are both incredibly comfortable with each other. ]

Dr. Crusher, this is Eos.

[Fascinated, Beverly returns the curtsy.]

Nice to meet you, Eos.

[She's still staring.]

I'm sorry... I don't... I'm afraid I don't completely understand.

[ She smiles at the confusion, indulgent and pleased. O'danya is nothing if not a show-off and a big sister figure both — even to people who are older than her. ]

By using the patterns present in my tome and altering them for my own use, I am able to manipulate my own aether into achieving precise effects. It's applied mathematics, you might say.

[Mathematics. That she can work with. Though she still doesn't know what this "aether" is.]

I see. So you're able to alter matter on a quantum level?

[ Oh, she will learn. ]

Quantum? I'm afraid I don't know what that means.

Ah, I'm not a physicist, so I'm afraid I can't explain it as well as I should, but it's basically referring to matter at its most basic level, the building blocks of the universe as it were.

Ah, I believe I understand. [ It sounds more like Alichi'ra or Cid's area of expertise, but she does get the basics. ] In a way, it's similar to that but nothing so severe. Rather than altering the world around me, I alter the energies inside of myself to create an external effect.

[She nods slowly.]

I think I'm beginning to understand. [She smiles.] Give me a little more time, and I'm sure I'll get it.

How would you apply this ability to medicine?

While medicine and healing are used together where I am from, I'm afraid I am not one versed in alchemical concoctions so much as the use of spells to lessen wounds and cleanse infections.

[ She motions up to Eos, who understands implicitly and begins to glow. When it reaches a certain point, she spins and the glow transfers to Beverly who would feel an outpouring of physical warmth that never goes beyond uncomfortable. It is energy, health and wellness being promoted by the sharing of power. It's an Embrace.

Of course, as Beverly isn't injured it doesn't do much more than wash over her, but the feeling is completely noticeable. ]

[Beverly gasps a little when the warm glow hits her, but the feeling isn't at all unpleasant. It reminds her strongly of John, all those years ago.]

Amazing! The exact method was different, of course, but I have experienced something similar to this before.

This... is it possible to teach someone this ability?

In theory, yes! It is entirely possible. However, I would need another enchanted tome before I would even think of attempting to guide your aetherical studies.

[ She sighs, more put on than anything. ]

Oh, if only Alichi'ra were here, he would be able to bind one for us with nary a thought. No matter! Until such time, there are certainly other methods of harnessing one's own aether that I might be able to bestow.

I don't want to give you any extra work, but I would love to learn anything you could teach me. If I could help alleviate my patients' pain with just a touch....

Any extra work would be well-worth it in the end. [ There's a smile. She isn't put off at all, obviously used to strenuous workloads and difficult situations. ]

For now, however, I should like to ask what sort of response your broadcast garnered. How many appear to be injured in comparison to ships damaged?

Fortunately, the ships seem to have taken more damage than their crews. Most injuries were minor - cuts and bruises and the like - though there were a few concussions and a couple of blast injuries. All in all, a lot better than I was expecting.
