[Beverly is onscreen, the Blue Fish's med bay, still intact, behind her. Her jaw is set with determination as she talks.]

Attention, Drift Fleet. This is Dr. Beverly Crusher of the USS... of the SS Blue Fish. I know some of you have taken significant damage to your ships, possibly to your sickbays, and that others do not have a medic on board. Fortunately, our sickbay survived the attack, so I am offering it as a central location to help the wounded while repairs are being made elsewhere. We have a small supply of blood on hand as well, should anyone need it. If any member of your crew is too severely injured to be moved, please let me know, and I will come to you. No payments will be necessary for any treatment.

Thank you for your time.

[She signs off with a grim smile.]

[She nods slowly.]

I think I'm beginning to understand. [She smiles.] Give me a little more time, and I'm sure I'll get it.

How would you apply this ability to medicine?

While medicine and healing are used together where I am from, I'm afraid I am not one versed in alchemical concoctions so much as the use of spells to lessen wounds and cleanse infections.

[ She motions up to Eos, who understands implicitly and begins to glow. When it reaches a certain point, she spins and the glow transfers to Beverly who would feel an outpouring of physical warmth that never goes beyond uncomfortable. It is energy, health and wellness being promoted by the sharing of power. It's an Embrace.

Of course, as Beverly isn't injured it doesn't do much more than wash over her, but the feeling is completely noticeable. ]

[Beverly gasps a little when the warm glow hits her, but the feeling isn't at all unpleasant. It reminds her strongly of John, all those years ago.]

Amazing! The exact method was different, of course, but I have experienced something similar to this before.

This... is it possible to teach someone this ability?

In theory, yes! It is entirely possible. However, I would need another enchanted tome before I would even think of attempting to guide your aetherical studies.

[ She sighs, more put on than anything. ]

Oh, if only Alichi'ra were here, he would be able to bind one for us with nary a thought. No matter! Until such time, there are certainly other methods of harnessing one's own aether that I might be able to bestow.

I don't want to give you any extra work, but I would love to learn anything you could teach me. If I could help alleviate my patients' pain with just a touch....

Any extra work would be well-worth it in the end. [ There's a smile. She isn't put off at all, obviously used to strenuous workloads and difficult situations. ]

For now, however, I should like to ask what sort of response your broadcast garnered. How many appear to be injured in comparison to ships damaged?

Fortunately, the ships seem to have taken more damage than their crews. Most injuries were minor - cuts and bruises and the like - though there were a few concussions and a couple of blast injuries. All in all, a lot better than I was expecting.

These ships are miraculous things. [ O'danya is considering that while Eos flutters about from one shoulder to another. The miqo'te's attention is pulled and she shrugs. ] Will you keep us in mind should more present themselves?

Of course. I look forward to working together more in the future, though hopefully not always under stressful circumstances like these.

To be frank, I expect times between stressful situations to be far and few between. [ She doesn't seem all too perturbed by it, though. ] Although that does not mean we cannot carve our own free time somewhere in the middle.

[She sighs, though it's hardly as if she doesn't know how to handle herself in a crisis.]

I am sure you are right. I just wish you weren't.

All it means now is that we needs must take advantage of the time we've been given. How has your ship fared? [ She looks, as if the whole of it can be seen just the lab. ] My own is... disrepair, of a sort, and I was to be on my way in locating supplies once I was done here.

The bridge is in worse shape than sickbay, but it's nothing we can't fix. We don't have a pilot yet, so the damage could have been much worse, if it weren't for Sokka's quick thinking and Hawke's good aim.

[ Her head tilts, hand coming up to rest her chin against. ]

Good news indeed. Our own ship lacked shields, yet we had both offensive and evasive capabilities to avoid too much damage.

I'm glad. Hopefully we can help get the other ships that didn't fare so well back in working order.

It is times like there where adventurers shine the brightest. [ She grins. ] Although I know not how many would consider themselves adventurers here, we all seem willing enough to do what it takes in order to ensure our repairs.

[She grins back.] I wouldn't be in Starfleet if I didn't consider myself an adventurer.

A doctor and an adventurer both. Well met, indeed. Are there any other notable talents you employ?

[Hello, O'danya, meet the most hilariously overqualified person in this fleet. Fortunately, she's not one to brag... nor does she necessarily see many of her skills as particularly extraordinary, when many of them are par for the course for any Starfleet officer. She colors slightly.]

Well, I do dabble in the theatre... I've never been a professional, mind you, but I help put on plays on the Enterprise. And I suppose you could argue I know quite a bit about robotics, but I'm no engineer.

[ Oh, it's okay. O'danya is one of the hilariously most overqualified people in Eorzea, so she knows the feeling. ]

Plays, is that right? Why, that's rather impressive! My only skill in presentation would be my songs and I'm afraid most would find them unpalatable for polite company... [ Not because they're tawdry or anything but because the ones she likes most are to motivate her friends in battle. But, you know, details. ] If you've interest in robotics and similar mechanics, I should hope you someday have the opportunity to meet my friends. It seems I attract the type who enjoys working metals and concoctions.

[Laughing] Polite company or not, I'd like to hear you sing sometime. It's fascinating to me how music seems to be a universal constant between species.

Now, we may not always agree on what constitutes as good music, but rarely do you run into a species that does not enjoy it on some level.

It would be my pleasure. A world without music is one in which I would not be nearly as comfortable. To imagine that there are some who might not possess it at all...

[ It's a thought she hadn't considered. As open-minded as she may be, there's only so far open she can get before running into territory never before considered much less challenged. ]

I have never run across a humanoid species who did not have some form of music... but for species with different kinds of sensory perceptions, music does not always appeal to them the way it does to us.

[ That one is a bit above her head. All species have the same sort of sensory input, no matter if it is weaker in some and stronger in others. ]

Yes. Tholians, for example, emit several forms of radiation beyond our own thermal radiation and use that to communicate with one another. Trill symbionts, on the other hand, use electric impulses. And there are several species that are space-dwelling, so of course, sound doesn't carry in the vacuum of space, so music would mean very little to them. Other species are energy-based, and so have no corporeal bodies at all.
