I just want to say that I really appreciate everyone's who's answered my questions about this place, but now that I've had a little time to get settled, [and stop silently panicking] I'm curious about what home is like for everyone.

And since you've been here, have you seen anything like home?

[And since she doesn't really expect to be able to ask and not give an answer herself,]

My world's nothing all that special probably in comparison to some of yours. It's 2012, Earth, with modern-day technology that's nowhere near as advanced as all of this. I live in Mystic Falls, Virginia in a country called the United States.

We do have magic, but I can't do any of it. I only know about it because my best friend was a witch. [And it's invaded every part of her life for the past couple of years, but ssshhh.] Magic where I come from has a balance, it's rooted in nature and spirits of ancestors. So the further down the line of witches you are, the more power you can have. But you have to maintain the balance of nature or the spirits of your ancestors will cut you off.

There are other kinds of magic, but they're bad news and not something you want to mess with. It has some really bad consequences for the user since it ignores maintaining the balance.

[And she leaves it there. She's not willing to out herself as a vampire or acknowledge the existence of other supernatural beings beyond witches and spirits.]

Wizard fans. Like "installing a twenty-foot statue of your personal fave in your living room" kind of fans. Even though he was explicitly fictional.

I'm hoping that you didn't know anybody like that personally.

Not unless we count alt universe selves. Or maybe my sister, actually. She's a pretty big wizard fan. Writes fic.

Nope. I make comics. Or made, I guess. Been a while since I made a good comic. Been doing a lot more shifty note-writing instead.

I'm sure you could start making comics again here, if you wanted. That sounds pretty cool.

Yeah, but if there's a thing I've learned about people who like wizards, it's that sometimes they're dodgy about their true feelings. I thought my sister hated them for years until I found her secret wizard journal under her bed.

I think pretending I don't know what they are is a little too elaborate to be worth it, don't you?

If there's one thing I've learned about getting shuttled around the multiverse, it's that some people favor the most outrageously elaborate schemes they've got. But I actually agree one hundred fucking percent that it's more trouble than it's worth, so regular levels of wizard-fondness it is.

I'm glad I've proven my innocence.

[She laughs a little.]

So aside from wizard fans, what else is in your world?

Uh, well. I don't know if it's a whole lot different from Virginia. I'm from Texas. Houston, actually.

[Which is why he doesn't have much of an accent.]

But it was only 2009, so I'm lumbering hells of behind with pop culture. I never even got to see a YouTube video hit a billion views.

Hey, I'm sure there's some people here who haven't heard of any pop culture you know about. [Since people seem to be from completely different worlds sometimes, not just time.] It could be a lot worse.

It's true. I know they're out there. Then it's like I've got an insurmountable language barrier between me and the rest of the world. [Never mind he's frequently indecipherable to Earth-peeps from the 21st century.]

I met a wizard who never had nachos until I delivered them to his goddamn doorstep. Talk about travesties.

That definitely sounds like a very unfulfilled life.

[She's mostly teasing, but she's also a little serious. Going your whole life without nachos does seem like a waste. Especially if they were available to you this whole time.]
