A cry for help
[a distress call has been tracked across the void, finally leading back to the source. a hulking crippled ship, teeming with hostile alien life, now lies before you.
what do you do? do you dive in or hang back? are you here to learn, play, build, or observe?
however you choose to proceed, your audience is out there somewhere, watching.]
ooc: here is a good ol' themed mingle to get you all started! and don't feel limited by the prompts and what they describe--they're just there as idea-starters, so feel free to go anywhere and do anything.
have fun!

[This guy looks...Yuya's age, actually, but he talks a lot more confidently than Yuya feels. He scratches the back of his head, hoping that he doesn't come off as too dumb.]
You know how to fix this thing? I mean...I am an engineer so I can probably can too, but I've never actually done it before.
no subject
But yes, if the latter's tentativeness is a problem Megaman certainly doesn't seem mind it. Instead he laughs a bit at the question, leaning over to set his toolbox on the ground.]
How to fix it? Well, not yet! I mean, I've never had to fix something like this before either...I'm not really an engineer back home too, so that makes two of us, at least! [Straightening, he beams, extending his a freed hand to the latter boy for a handhsake.] I bet with both of us combined we should be alright! I'm Megaman, what's your name?
no subject
Yuya. Yuya Sakaki. Let's do our best to fix this thing!
[He smiles and turns back to the speaker system, squinting to see if there's anything he missed at first glance. The speaker's still a wreck, though, and it's pretty clear that they're going to be here for a while.]
Man, I wonder what did do this...we're probably going to need a lot of replacement parts, aren't we?
no subject
[
Look Megaman is totally a perfectly nice name to give your program son rightBut yes, with that, Megaman kneels down to pop open his toolbox properly while Yuya takes a better look at the system, rummaging around through tools but glancing up as he speaks.]Ah, that's the real question for sure, huh? It could have been anything out here...I kinda hope whatever it was isn't still on board somewhere. [He plucks up a small wrench-ish tool, weighing it speculatively in one hand as he considers Yuya's question.] We probably are gonna need some parts for it, you're right. Might take awhile to get the right ones together...but in the meantime we could probably still sort out the wiring on the inside and stuff, so that it's ready for the parts when we do find them. Is it all burned up on the inside there? Here, maybe this'll get it open a bit more-- [He offers the wrench in question, y/n?]
no subject
Yeah, some of the wiring is burnt...I think something could have short circuited. Maybe we should check the power supply?
[He's not entirely sure about the short circuit, but the fact that he can make the connection is a start.]
no subject
Hm, short-circuiting does sound about right. If it's burned, right? The power supply sounds like a good idea. We'll probably need new wires too, I bet...I think I might have a handful! [Aaand back down to thoughtfully check his toolbox again, though he does laugh a bit as he does.] Man, we sure do sound really professional right now. But you sound like you're already getting the hang of this! I've found that it helps, doing it like this--not thinking so hard about it, you know? When you've got a program installed, the best thing to do is not try forcing it. It's already doing most of the work for you in the background anyhow, most of the time without you even realizing it!

[Natural. Brain implants are totally not natural, but he can adapt. So he says, a little more brightly:]
Okay! Let's keep going, then. We've got the wires, so--we just have to replace them, right?
[He's forgetting the step where they make sure the underlying mechanics are working...]
no subject
[Come to think of it...yeah humans and brain implants still is kind of a new thing for most, isn't it? Ah, in retrospect, maybe that might have been a bit insensitive to say earlier--but before he can even begin to figure out how to apologize for that, faltering briefly, Yuya's already plowing on forward. And so Megaman ends up following that instead, shaking away the thought and standing upright with his handful of wires.]
But--ah, replace them, yeah! [But then his augment chimes, somewhere in the back of his head, and he falters again.] --Wait, no! Uh. No...we should clear out the burnt wires for sure, but--um, maybe we should check underneath those first too? At the rest of the console inside. So we don't have to take out the new wires if something goes wrong, I think...
no subject
And he slumps. Looks like this "let it come naturally" stuff is harder than he thought.]
Yeah, probably. Good catch.
no subject
Hey, don't start feeling too bad yet, we've only just started! I almost missed that too, to be honest...you're doing fine. [Did u need an encouraging shoulder-pat well now you're getting a light and brief one with his free hand before he considers the console, leans down to fish up a pair of wire cutters.]
Here, could you hold these for a bit? I'll go ahead and snip out the burnt bits real fast... [Offering his handful of newer wires to Yuya; then, should the latter accept them, he'll start trying to wedge his cutters in there...] Actually, if you don't mind me asking...what did you do back home? Since neither of us are really engineers--I'm still trying to figure out how they assign these things!
no subject
They probably thought it'd be funny to make me an engineer. Back home, I was no good at this kind of thing...I'm a duelist, so it's not like I needed any of it.
[Oh, wait.]
Ah, by that I mean I played a game that was popular at home. I'm an Entertainment Duelist, which means that I use my skills to excite the audience and bring smiles to people.
holy late tag batman oh my god I'M SORRY
Oh, wow--that sounds really neat, actually! [He turns to face Yuya a bit better, clipping momentarily forgotten in his curiosity.] So you're sort of like a performer? Not just anyone can make people feel happy enough to smile during a show! You must be really good at it. [...Head tilting a bit, though--] Ah, it's a game, though? What do you duel with, exactly?
No problem, I think I've done this too...
[He starts reaches for his deck, because of course he carries it around with him even when he doesn't expect to use it these days, but he's holding the wires in the wrong hand for that and he has to do some awkward angling with his other hand if he wants to retrieve it. Whoops.]
Uh...maybe I can show you later, once we're done. It's a lot of fun, though.
grips your shoulder, the struggle is real
[His head tilts a bit further as Yuya tries to reach for the deck in question, although--oh, right, the wires. He's got half a mind to offer holding them again really, being that curious about just what Yuya might be talking about, but--no, okay, that's alright too. Later is good! Ah, they should probably be focusing on fixing things anyway...something bad would probably happen if they weren't paying attention. Right.]
I remember Lan used to play those a few times with his friends--but if yours are exciting enough to make shows, they must be a lot more interesting! [He smiles.] If you wouldn't mind showing me later I'd definitely like to see it, yes!
no subject
[He perks up a little - that's the first time anyone's expressed real interest in the game, if only to start with. But that's better saved for another time and place, so he holds up the wires again as a gesture. He's feeling a little more optimistic about the work again.]
But let's finish here, first. We're here for a reason.
