ϟ o1.
Who: Yu Narukami
Broadcast: nada.
Action: Marsiva hospitality deck.
When: backdated to 6/17, all the way up to the shuffle.
( when he first comes round to consciousness again, there's an immediate feeling of wrongness. nothing feels right; the chill still lingers, shivering through him in tiny little tremors as he pulls himself into a sitting position and rubs a hand over his face, internally pulling at the strings of his memory to recall what had come before.
this isn't the plane – and this most certainly isn't his home back in the city. well, there's one thing to try that might give him a clue as to what precisely is going on, and it certainly goes to show the things he's gone through if his immediate thought is to try to drop from his own reality onto the astral plane which, strangely enough, had come to serve as more of a home than he's willing to admit.
( it had been easier for him and yosuke to meet there than it would have been for either of them to travel. with the added bonus of time stopping for both of them for the duration. )
we could go into great detail about the attempt at dropping from reality – how it should have been effortless, how he should have found himself staring at a starry floor instead of the muted surface beneath his feet – but the long and short of it is simply that it doesn't work. he remains sitting on his cot, blinking at the floor, his hands as they remain curled around his knees, brows furrowing above gray eyes in confusion.
and then in brief fear.
if this isn't the plane, then where –?
where is yosuke?
where is the rest of the team?
… what's happening?
it's then that he stands, pushing his hair out of his eyes, and takes a look around. the communication device goes ignored, for the most part, in favor of the massive windows all around him, giving a more than decent view of the even more massive void beyond them. space, he's used to. space, he can handle – which, what does that say about past experiences, hm?
it's the flickering television screens around him that give him immediate pause, uncertainty. a niggling little voice in the back of his mind insists that this could very easily be the beginning of another venture into the tv world – even if it doesn't have the same feel to it. it feels different, of course it does, and none of it even comes close to the horrifying familiarity of where his friends had been forced to face and accept the worst parts of themselves.
yu breathes out a small noise, mouth pulling into a thin, firm line. well. he isn't going to find any of those friends if he doesn't start looking, right? right.
and thus, the search begins. )

( perma-video, etc. )
... Adachi?
( DO YOU SEE HOW HE'S LEANING AWAY? DO YOU? )
no subject
It's nice to see you too, "leader-kun." I've already said hi to your little friends. What are their names again? The Junes idiot and that meat-obsessed tomboy?
no subject
What are you doing here?
( and how dare you mention his friends. )
Yosuke. And Chie. ( a beat, and his eyes narrow just a tiny bit more. ) What could you have possibly had to say to them?
no subject
You brats all ask the same damn questions. It's like you honestly think I wanted to wind up drifting through space in some rusty tin can of a ship. C'mon Yu-kun, you're smarter than that aren't you? What makes you think I have any idea why I'm here, or why any of us are here for that matter?
[Adachi sneers at Yu's second question. It was just too good of a set-up.]
Aw, what's the matter Yu-kun? Jealous I spoke with them first? Now, now there's no reason to get upset. I'm talking with you now aren't I?
no subject
Where I was before I woke up here, it wasn't home. It wasn't Inaba. That didn't make sense, either.
( at that last little bit, something in him snaps, and he shakes his head. )
I don't care who you talked to first. Or what you had to say. Because I don't have anything to say to you. Not after everything you've done.
no subject
Oh? You didn't come here from Inaba? How long has it been then, since you last saw that hick town?
[His sneer grows as he realizes the perfect shot to take at Yu.]
If it's been some time, I have to imagine that poor Nanako-chan must be worried sick about her "big bro."
[He makes several clucking noises with his tongue. His words take on a tone of pure condescension.]
You're so cruel to leave her at home like that... all by herself.
[Adachi's eyes narrow at the last three words. Their piercing gaze is less in keeping with the mocking tone of his voice, and more... accusatory. Was he angry at Yu for seemingly abandoning Nanako?]
no subject
( it's a nice shot that adachi takes, it really is – because if he hadn't known for sure that time stops when he's on the plane, it would have hit him like the proverbial ton of bricks to hear that nanako could be all alone. all by herself.
except now that he's here, and he can't seem to drop out of this place like he could back on the plane? there's a bit of guilt forming at the base of his spine, gnawing away like a termite at a load-bearing beam. )
It wasn't my choice to come here. Or there. Do you think I would willingly leave her on her own?
no subject
Not your choice, huh? That's all well and good, but did you ever stop to think once about Nanako or Dojima? You know... the family you left behind? Did you ever once even consider how they're probably feeling or what they're thinking about your absence? Or were you just happy to be going off on another little adventure with your precious friends? You couldn't resist could you? The chance to play the big hero again... it's like you get off on it or something. That false sense of superiority afforded to you by your so-called idea of "justice."
no subject
Why would I want to leave them? They're all I've had for the past year. I didn't even want to leave Inaba to go back to the city –
( and he hadn't. it's why he's been relying on the plane for so long, because when he and yosuke meet there, it's like he'd never left. even if he hadn't gotten to see any of the others, there was, at least, a tiny little sliver of the familiar in getting to see his best friend pretty much whenever he wanted.
yu shakes his head, trying to keep his anger in check. )
Don't talk like you know me. You don't.
no subject
What is there to know? All your talk of bonds and friendship...
[Adachi makes a rude scoffing noise.]
You're about as easy to understand as a pop-up book.
[He lets out one more slight chuckle, before going in for another verbal needling. His tone is calm, but with an unmistakeable, trademark hint of maliciousness.]
Guess all that talk about the importance of bonds doesn't extend to your own family, huh?
no subject
his bonds, they mean everything to him. they make him stronger, remind him that it doesn't matter where he goes in his life, he has people that count on him, respect him, love him.
and it's why he isn't going to let adachi get him like this. he's only going for the obvious points of interest, the sore spots that will always get a reaction out of him. he can handle this. )
A family that had accepted you, too, Adachi-san. A family that you betrayed.
( nice rebuttal, yu. good job. gold star. )
no subject
Tch- what do I care about that? A family? I didn't ask for anything like that! It's your own fault for being betrayed. You put your trust in the person that you thought I was. It's not my fault that you were disappointed by your own false image of me!
[He knows he's said these words before, but... their bite... their cruelty... it's not there as much as it used to be. Something is causing them to ring more false. Even Adachi can hear it, but he does his best to ignore it.]
no subject
but yu knows, just by peering into the video feed that he's made a move in the right direction, and even if it had been a low blow, he likes to think it's an homage to dojima and everything he's been put through since the case had first begun. )
I'm not talking about me. I'm talking about my uncle. You remember him, don't you? The one who constantly brought you into his home and treated you like part of the family? ( he would never take this route normally, never wanting to purposely instigate, but his chosen path of logic always seems to fall short with adachi. he doesn't understand – or just doesn't want to – and speaking his own language seems to be the only way to get through to him.
yu pauses for a small breath, something he desperately needs to maintain the control he's finally getting back. )
He trusted you. So did Nanako – and how you betrayed them cuts deeper than anything you could have ever done to me.
no subject
Tch- You always act so sanctimonious. I'm starting to lose interest here, but before I go and find some better entertainment... let me leave you with this. Do not tell other fleet members about us. About our history. You understand? If I find out you've been talking to other fleet members about me... well, you should know better than anyone what I'm capable of.
no subject
or ever had been?
yu pauses, brows knitting together beneath the fringe of his bangs as he listens to what the former detective has to say next. history – that could, of course, pertain to the murder cases in inaba, but that hadn't been solely himself and adachi involved, and as a result has his expression turning into something confused and curious. )
Our history? Do you mean about the murder cases?
( aaaaand here it comes. )
