[As in her first broadcast, Mal can be found tinkering around in the engine room, elbows-deep in something interesting and greasy. This time, though, she seems pensive, deep in thought, perhaps about Deep Subjects and Philosophies.]

[She is, in fact, thinking about something entirely different.]

[When she speaks, it's in tones of airy contemplation, meant to disguise the fact that part of her thinks this is a terrible idea.]

Here is an interesting thing: vampires, for all their reputation for seduction, really aren't that good at it, at least where I come from. When you're always hungry, you mostly rely on people leaving windows open at the right time and then being a bit woozy from blood loss. For the really old ones, the ones who can barely stand without crumbling to dust and really hate sunshine, that's the only way they can eat, and if they tried to seduce anyone their arm would probably fall off.

[She twists at a mysterious innard of the ship with a wrench, tongue in her cheek.]

We've had enough excitement for a while, I think, so why not something boring instead: tell me about romance in your world. Describe the sorts of flowers you like to kill for love. Rate yourself on a scale of one to ten, complete dunce to Casanunda, if you like.

Actually, everyone should have to do that. That's compulsory. I will genteelly admit that I am a nine. [Liar.]

Unfortunately we don't have much in the way of extra blood in the clinics in case of emergencies, but hopefully you're doing alright.

[ And doing things responsibly, she supposes, but given how Mal's attitude seemed to err towards not hurting people, she doesn't seem too concerned ]

A nine, huh? I can live with that.

Well, there's all kinds of different subtle nuances and gestures they can represent, I guess. For example, the dogwood flower means "Please accept my feelings", so it's a flower that would be used to confess to someone. But then there's the camellia, which represents adoration. And of course, the red rose means "true love". It really just depends on exactly what feeling you want to convey, you know? Love is complicated, after all.

It's not a concern. [And that's about all the wants to talk about that; for all she's been off the stuff for years, she still doesn't like to discuss the b-vord.]

[Flowers, though. Flowers she can talk about. And make faces about, because apparently this is much more complicated than she had expected.]

This seems unnecessarily complex. [But she has a point about love being complicated, too . . .] I suppose it's a moot point, anyway, unless we come across a garden planet.

Alright, good.

[ She's met some vampires who were off the stuff like Mal and it wasn't a fun topic, so she gets the wanting to drop it thing. As long as Mal knows where to go if something happens! After all, there was no telling what the augment would do, or even if she might experience some kind of relapse on her own ... ]

It's meant to be a way to express how you feel when words don't quite do it justice. That's what I think, anyways.

[ She laughs ]

There was a decent selection back on Mor that I used to make some arrangements for people, but I think most of them should be pretty dead by now. We're working on getting some grow-lights in place to start getting things growing on the ships, though.

I didn't realize that was a priority.

[She doesn't disapprove, exactly. Just is surprised. She would have thought that in space other things would take precedent. But then, she's still learning, and not entirely displeased about this revelation.]

What are you going to try to grow?

Food is the first big thing on the list. If we can get some fresh vegetables and stuff like that on the ships, I think everyone would be a lot happier.

That makes sense.

[Very practical - especially for someone who comes from a starving country whose fields are largely made fallow by war. Just because she doesn't have to eat doesn't mean she can't see the effects of hunger.]

And then flowers? [It's a little teasing.]
