"Pleasantly so," he reposted, skilled as ever in the art of conversation. Being at court and learning at his mother's skirts had taught him as much, and it had never quite left him - both to his detriment and his advantage as it turned out.

He doesn't fight Ray's readjustment of his hands, smiling a bit to himself, threading their fingers as he followed Ray's lead in the dance, continuing to hum with the dulcet tones he had become known for. He would never be a Bard, but he had enough gift to sound pleasant.

"Much simpler than the dances I am used to," he smiled up at him, the fire casting a warm orange glow across their faces.

[Hey, she might not be one of those brooding, self-loathing vampire types, but that doesn't mean she doesn't recognize how absolutely unnatural it is that she's come back from the dead more than once.]

If you look at it from the cold hard science point of view, the planet can only sustain so much life before its resources are drained. But if you want to look at it from a magical standpoint, there's a balance. You can't have life without death or vice versa.

Anything impervious to death is seen as a slight against nature.

Yeah. I didn't exactly think after last month we'd be somewhere I could feel sand between my toes, but I'm not complaining. I think everyone seems to be doing better. [A beat.] They needed this.

[She sniffs it, and maybe she doesn't know 'coconut' but it's a good smell. She starts smearing it on her arms.]

If it does work, it's plenty better than burning.

[Personally, she can't imagine being scared of a little spider. And the big ones are dealt with easily enough, if you're prepared.]

But really, there are worse things than giant spiders. Most people never see them.

[Caesar sends the waitress a few reassuring smiles to offset Joseph's bizarre behavior as well as he can - he's been here a few times, they know each other at least by name, and he hopes she trusts him not to bring a madman into her restaurant.]

[It takes him significantly less time to decide on drinks to start than it does Joseph to decide on entrees. This doesn't surprise him in the least - he set this trap for himself, after all. For Joseph, he chooses something he's decided is more or less analogous to mead, sweet and refreshing; for himself, a heavy, dry liquor that he's only tasted once and can't quite place. Ordinarily he'd choose something more like wine, but wine doesn't get him as drunk as he'd like to be tonight.]

[When Joseph is done ordering, Caesar orders as well, then quietly and politely places his hand on top of the drinks menu. They'll hang onto it for the moment, he says, and she goes away.]

[At which point he turns his attention to Joseph's wicked grin and sighs.]

[On the plus side it's an actual boat so she's experienced? Which is more than can be said for whatever poor souls she drags into trying out the short range shuttles underwater capabilities with.]

Fairly sure. It certainly seems sturdy enough.

[It's small, but ideal for her purposes. She can have it more or less to herself this way and doesn't need an experienced crew. Which means she can definitely drag her friends along whether they like it or not.

After all, what's the point of experiencing the joys of the sea again if there's no one to share it with?]

I think what she means, my dear, is that she needs a nice, slow screw.

[Judging from the glare from the bartender this isn't the first time Isabela's tried ordering dirty sounding drinks, most of which they don't have. The casino planet gave her far too much ammunition to work with.

For good or not this is one they actually can make, though just how well orange juice goes with algae gin has yet to be seen.]

It's fine. It doesn't look broken, does it? I've taken harder hits to the face than that...

[Although really now he's just burning with undying curiosity (out of concern) about this whole curse business. But she said it's a sore subject, so he'll just pretend like he didn't hear it at all. Much better for him to start fretting about his personal appearance as he touches his nose. No, it smarts a little, but that doesn't feel broken.]
