[He takes the offered compact mirror and for a brief moment he is inspecting just his nose. But then he's checking the rest of himself out in the mirror, even adjusting his hair a little before he has a satisfied smile.]

You could have just said I'm handsome as always, [he says as he hands it back to her.] That would have put my mind to rest easy.

[No, he cannot stop goofing off for more than a few minutes at a time. Why do you ask?]

[ She doesn't mind the checking himself out in the mirror -- after all, she does the same thing. But when he comments, she gives him a flat look ]

I wouldn't have said that in any situation.

I know, I know. You're awful stingy with your compliments. [He sighs. A minor bruise to his ego; he can bear it, if only just so.] But the day I do receive one, I promise I will cherish it for the rest of my life.

[Joseph grins. He's always prided himself on being able to read people pretty well even without knowing them all that well. He thinks he's got a pretty good handle on the sort of person Ino is already.]

Like I need to? It's obvious just from talking with you for five minutes that you're protective, especially about the people you care about. Repeating that you have a boyfriend hasn't had anything to do with you or me. Some might see it as insecurity in your relationship, but since you've been so steadfast, you're protecting him.

I don't know the sort of guy your boyfriend is, so I can't say how he'd react exactly, but it'd probably only end up hurting him regardless of how he chooses to handle it. And that's why you'd never tell him. Unless of course it was to spare him from more pain than that.

[ Oh, he does. And he's completely right. But she wasn't expecting that from a guy who wants to brag about how little he thinks, so she gets a little flustered. ]

Or maybe I'd tell him so he'd get annoyed enough to come over and really break your nose this time.

[Joseph just gets a touch more smug. He knows he's right even if she's trying to deny it a little.]

You don't really expect me to believe that, do you? If you wanted my nose broken, you wouldn't need your boyfriend to do it. You'd handle it yourself.

And you're lucky I haven't yet.

[ She huffs, before something behind him seems to catch her attention. The other players on the volleyball court seem to be standing around looking their way, like they're waiting for him anyways ... ]

[He doesn't think she'd ever actually hit him that hard. Or if she did, she'd feel bad about it pretty quickly. So, Joseph just grins and then looks over his shoulder briefly.]

You coming or what?

[ She sighs ... and picks up her bag. ]

[Joseph grins, grabs her by the wrist, and races with her back to the game, in which they will most definitely kick the most amount of ass.]

But yes for the record she will destroy the other team and be inhumanly fast and all that good stuff. ]
