[It's rare in Drift Fleet to see Dorian as The Necromancer. He plays with people, he flirts with them. Occasionally his humor is morbid. But that's just him.

But tonight is different.

The broadcast is from a darkened cargo bay of the SS Three Twins.

Dorian is wearing black robes with a pointed hood, and as the broadcast starts, he gestures with a skull-topped staff, seeming to almost do it for show. There's a whispering of something circling him, a spirit, perhaps, and candles illuminate around him as it vanishes.]

I do hope you're having a good night. I had nearly lost track of the date, what with the odd stars, but I'm quite certain that it is the beginning of the eighth month, Matrinalis. Which means, for those of you unaccustomed to Thedosian holidays, it is All Soul's Day. Or close enough. ...regardless...

[He conjures a small flicker of fire in his hand, the light casting shadows on his face, the glowing purple lines of necromantic sigils and runes seemingly etched into his hands and arms.]

It is the day we Thedosians remember our dead. As a necromancer, I daresay I am qualified to lead the celebrations, if you will.

You are welcome to come and extinguish a candle for those you've lost.

[This video feed started a little strange from Allen's perspective, only going downhill the further it got. Allen almost thought Dorian was doing some weird...theme party thing. He didn't know the man all that well. He was one of Ino's crew- and seemed likable enough.]

[Except that likability? Vanishes the moment Dorian says the word. Any confusion and benefit of the doubt coming from Allen's viewpoint about this? Vanishes into outrage.]

You're the Necromancer?!

[He leans on his staff, casually, and smiles.]

It would seem my reputation proceeds me!

[Whatever Allen could say, he's certain he's heard worse from Southerners, so he's not even concerned.]

Yes, I am a student of the Mortalitasi, or, in other words, a necromancer. I've never had the pleasure of being The necromancer, however, it's quite an honor.

[Just linefacing into oblivion here. It's so much more easier when Dorian doesn't do this over the network, where Fenris can pretend he's not a Necromancer (or, you know, a mage full stop). He heaves out a sigh. ]

Was this really necessary?

[...Wait. ]

Tell me that's not a real spirit.

I can't believe it! After your worries over blood magic-

[He snarls. He thought Dorian had been a good person. But this...]

You bind spirits and torture them! There's no honour in what you do!

[ Give him a moment, it's processing...

And then he just grins. ]

Kinda morbid. I like it.

Blood magic is a reprehensible practice done by broken mages who only lust for power.

[And really, Allen? THAT WAS ONE TIME.]

What I use is only a fragment of a fragment. Like a mote of dust compared to a whole spirit. Don't presume to compare that to blood magic.

I didn't bind it. It was drawn to me.

[He inclines his head a bit. Your move.]

It would seem, then, that you're not affected by the delicate sensibilities of the others.

[He quirks his brows a bit.]

Ha, no. Don't know what they're bitching about.

[ ACTUAL KANYESHRUG. ]

Might do that, sounds like it could be fun.

[Nightingale doesn't sleep much lately, so there's not much to do, and seeing a post like that makes her raise an eyebrow.]

Necromancer... That's a magic-user that fights using summoned undead, right? That must be interesting.

Oh yeah? Where I'm from, Necromancy is seen as the same damn thing! Far more people have died from necromancy than any blood magic!

I don't care how small it was, it was screaming out in pain! I could hear its screams! Nothing should have to be put through that! How could you justify that?!

No, my spirit companion seems to have been remarkably absent at the moment, considering that I requested he keep distance so to not upset a certain glowering elf.

I justify it by the fact that my kin was afraid for her life. Or do you consider a tiny fucking fragment of something comparable to a whole living being?

Not undead. I regard the dead with respect. I use the spirits of the dead.

I will be here until dawn, as is customary. Or, rather, until the sun comes around.

[The idea of dead spirits being summoned like that weirds her out more than a little, but she's focusing on the other parts for now.]

How does that work, exactly?

I have good reason to be upset. And they are not pets, you cannot get another in the absence of one.

The spirits are drawn to the energy released by the dead. They can take on their shape, or assist a skilled mage who knows how to properly utilize them.

"Energy released by the dead"? So spirits just hang around where people are dying?

Andraste's left tit, Fenris, I wasn't going to keep it. I thought you trusted my judgement better than that.

[And that did hurt, a bit, that Fenris would just fall back into thinking he'd do something like a Magister would without a second thought.]

The ends don't justify the means, Dorian. Don't you dare start on that reasoning, I've heard it enough times. You could have found another way to protect her. I'm no mage, but I know enough to know there's a lots of protection spells that don't require torturing spirits.

[Anders actually appreciates All Soul's Day, on occasion will light candles himself quietly and in private, but (like most of his interaction with religion) it's not an experience he's particularly inclined to share. He listens, though, chin propped on one hand and the quirk of his half-smile amused.

He recognizes a spirit when he sees it, wouldn't be much of a healer if he didn't, but to him that hardly seems to be the most interesting part of the scene.]

That's quite the spin you've put on it. [In the Circle it was mostly a holiday for chapel attendance, when the young apprentices would put on a play.] Nothing like a bit of drama to spice things up, mm?
