[ Nova looks... tired, especially if you saw her on her first day. She's sitting up on her bed and her space looks pretty immaculate and not at all lived-in. She looks a little anxious, and rebraids the bottom of her hair before speaking, visibly uncomfortable with the camera. ]

Uh. Hey. I guess. I hope I'm not waking anyone up. I'm new so... I don't know. I can't sleep. Does anyone have any tips? Or something? It's... well, it's not exactly quiet, because things make noise. But it's... sterile? It doesn't sound right, or smell right.

I don't really want to think about it too hard. Anyway. If you could tell me what you did when you were new...

[ She trails off, awkward and tired and lets the silence go on a little long ]

It's probably just a personal problem.

[Seeing there was a new crewmember, Furiosa makes it a point to stop by her quarters and raps her knuckles against the door frame. She doesn't sleep much in the first place, and was still getting used to these new circumstances.]

What it needs is a good layer of dirt. Other than that, though, she's a good rig. Welcome to the First Breath.

[ Nova tenses when Furiosa knocks, and only catches herself after her eyes have darted around for another exit. she schools herself to be calmer, but it's probably only semi-effective. her attempt at a smile is weak ]

Dirt, trees, moss... you know, the works.

Thanks. I'm not really sure what to make of any of this.

[She catches the other woman's tension and eases herself back slightly so she's not blocking the entire door. She knew what that felt like.]

It's been a long time since I've seen trees.

[She pauses a moment, and then holds her right hand out for introductions. Her left is a semi-finished mechanical prosthetic that she's been working on to replace the one she lost before arriving.] I'm Imperator Furiosa, I'm the pilot. What'd they stick you with?

[ Nova notices Furiosa's position and appreciates it. she gets up to shake her outstretched hand ]

You can come in.

I'm Nova, and I'm security. It's my understanding they don't have my preferred weapon, but I'll make it work.

[Furiosa gives her hand a quick, firm shake, and then settles herself into the room.]

My compatriot lost his entire arsenal, I don't think anyone is being allowed weaponry.

[She shrugs.] Doesn't mean we can't get creative. [Necessity is the mother of invention and all that.]

What is your weapon of choice?

[While she talks, she's quietly assessing Nova. She seemed young, but tough.]

[ Nova instinctively positions herself so that she has options and isn't cornered ]

A recurve bow. I'm a hunter, usually, and it doesn't scare the game as much. I'm pretty good.

Mm. I can't imagine a bow would be useful in close quarters. [But then there are planet visits and the like which they have to look forward to. Anything is possible.]

So you lived in a wilderness?

Yeah. Well, sort of. I grew up in a... more rural area, I guess. And I snuck out to the woods as much as I could.

Snuck out? You were held against your will?

[Okay, that strikes too close to home.]

Only by circumstance. The woods were out of bounds.

[Furiosa frowns, then sighs and makes a gesture to their surroundings.]

Well, we're here now. It's no forest, but you have free reign.

[ nods, slightly. the freedom of movement is way lower on the list than being in nature, but there's no point in going on about it ]

Where are you from?

[She leans back against the wall and crosses her prosthetic over her right arm and takes a moment before answering.] A poisoned wasteland. Broken world. Tyranny and lawlessness. But, hope springs eternal.

... Sounds rough.

It was. [That's not even the tip of the iceberg, but she's not going to go into the gritty details.] But you learn to survive. Something this easy almost feels unreal.

[Food and water whenever you desired it. A place to sleep. A purpose in life that relied on skill.]

So. Security. You have an experience?

I know a thing or two about surviving, too. I know how to fight.

[She nods her head in acknowledgement.] Good. Those are good skills to have.

[On that end,] We should spar sometime, if you're up to it.

[It would give her a good idea on just how extensive Nova's skills are, and it would be a good way to keep in shape up in such a tight space.]

Yeah, we should. Maybe after I've gotten some sleep, if that ever happens.

[ seems a little resigned about that ]

I'm really only trained in bow work, but I can fight when I need to.

It might take some getting used to, but it'll come easier. Eventually. When you're rested, I'll teach you a few things.

Do you have any tips?

Maintenance. Even when you're not fighting you want to keep your skills up. [Hence, to some degree; sparring. She shrugs, smiling wryly.] Easier when you're surrounded by a dozen guys vying for your title and can offer you a decent workout.

Oh. I'm just usually surrounded by people trying to kill me.

[Furiosa gives a dark chuckle.] That'll do it.

It's been awhile, though, so I might be rusty.

We can fix that. But first, rest. There's no urgent need for it now so you can take your time getting used to this place.
