Ok so I have a quick query since I'm not really an expert on clothes

Do space bathing suits normally catch on fire by themselves after a certain amount of time? Or

I mean they don't do that back on my world but maybe things are different out here I don't know...unless I did something to them?? But I don't know what I did

[guess who a) forgot he even had a bathing suit to start and b) completely forgot to dispose his swimwear both times Atroma tried to warn him: this guy. yes.]

[Incidentally, a few minutes before this post is broadcast, crewmates on the Golden may or may not notice smoke beginning to emerge from one of the bunkers. And if they don't notice that, then they might notice their small resident engineer sprinting into the kitchen in a rather panicked state, grabbing up an armful of cups, and trying to eke an appropriate amount of fire-dousing water from the beverage machine. It's a trying process.] --Ugh, is there any way to get water from this faster?! [MACHINE PLEASE THIS IS AN EMERGENCY]

atroma gave hats once. those caught on fire. think it's just stuff that they give us. so weird for clothes but not weird for that kind of stuff, it's stupid

(It's a bit funny though, actually--since their first conversation hadn't involved any actual talking, it's almost a bit amusing to see such a serious-looking guy using words so informally. It's good to know that it's not just space clothes in general, I guess. Still though, that's pretty dangerous! And, very weird, yes...these kinds of clothes can't be made out of normal materials, right? What are they made of, that they'll catch on fire after awhile?

Well, I don't know about that...it is really silly if we discount the dangerous part, but still! If we know how they're doing it, maybe we'll be able to turn it off next time? [megaman no that's not how clothes work.....] Or apply it to other things, maybe! If we want things to catch on fire for some reason...

Man, it really is a shame that they catch on fire, though. I guess it's too late to take a look at them now. Ashes wouldn't be very useful for that sort of thing, would it?

[Pamchadra had the same fire problem as Megaman, but unlike him, she chose a faster way to put it out, namely smothering it with a blanket and extinguishing the flame that way. But since she's a Goa'uld and thus not really into the whole helping others thing, she just hangs around the kitchen entrance with an amused expression on her host's face.]

Aren't you the engineer? You could make it so that the machine spits out water faster. Or perhaps you could take water from the bathroom instead.

[Truly it's a miniature fire day for the Golden all around, by the looks of things--it will be nice to realize that his swimwear wasn't the only set to burst into flames, at least, whenever he gets around to discovering this. But now one of his few newly-obtained articles of clothing is doing a thing that it should not be doing, and well. Fire in general. Fire is always bad news anymore.

He's pretty absorbed with his struggle against the beverage machine, though! And so he doesn't notice Pamchadra's presence until she actually speaks up; balancing several cups of water in his hands, he turns around, blinking.]

Oh--well--sure, that's true, I--definitely need to give this thing some kind of upgrade later... [Seriously why does this kitchen not have an actual sink that'd be--oh wait.

That, combined with Pamchadra's words, sinks in and renders Megaman staring for a moment.]

--Right, the bathroom! Oh man, how did I forget...there's a sink in there, right?! [Will he or will he not succeed in picking up the rest of these cups while still balancing the full ones: it's time to find out, apparently.]

[This is why you guys need to upgrade non-recreational things, oh my god. THIS WOULDN'T BE SUCH A PANIC IF WE HAD A REAL KITCHEN AND BATHROOM. She does chuckle in amusement at his reaction of being reminded of such things as bathrooms.]

There's a shower, but I don't know about the sink. There are drier alternatives as well. Do we have salt?

[IT'S TRUE, OH GOD IT'S TRUE...also look, the bathroom is not something he generally needs to deal with in his daily AI life, sometimes things like that can slip your mind!! The kitchen machine had seemed like the most practical solution at the time...

Megaman frowns at bit at both the sink bit and the question; he hasn't spilled any cups yet, at least, trying to pick up a couple more as he considers.]

I guess the shower works too, for now...man, we've really got to look into sinks later. But-- [He pauses, blinking around the kitchen.] Ah, I'm not sure if we do have salt, actually? But even if we did, people probably use that for cooking...

[Well, here's someone else to join in your panic, then. Looking at that smoke, and...]

Do... Do we have anything like a fire blanket or a fire extinguisher on here? I think water's supposed to be a last resort. There must be something, right?

[Wait, wait, let me think...]

Is there anything in engineering that could help? I think Engineering's supposed to have some repair tools, but don't really know what all's supposed to be there.

[He's on his third cup of water now, which is progress! Though he's still not sure if it's enough...but he turns to Uzuki as he tries to fill another one, anyway, because she's offering suggestions and those are good too. Ah.]

Um, well, yeah it's mostly repairing tools...I'm not sure if I have anything that's good for dousing fire! I could try looking, but I don't know if there's time--ah, a blanket though...

[Right, he'd probably do well to remember other fire-safety precautions too. They're there, somewhere in his database, but panicked kneejerk reaction pointed to water first--water is always effective against fire in the cyber world! Here in the real world though--right--he perks up, shifting a full cup into the crook of his elbow.]

Actually, I think I might have a blanket! It's not a fire one, it's just the one on my bed, but--maybe if we put water on it too, do you think that would work?

It should be fine if it's not a chemical fire, I think. We're trying to smother it before it gets too big, I think... Making it wet should hopefully make it so it doesn't set the blanket on fire before it puts out the fire.

It's... probably not a chemical fire though, right?

[Yes, gathering up the cups for the time being and bringing them along so we can douse a blanket.]

Oh, thanks-- [He certainly doesn't mind appreciatively shifting out of the way to let her reach the other cups, while he carries a few more himself, and then it's time to make a beeline back to the room. STILL SOME SMOKE COMING OUT OF THERE...or maybe it's the smoke of all the other bathing suits apparently burning in this ship right now, but. Anyway.] --That's actually a really good question, though! I don't know...I'm still not sure how it actually caught fire. I guess we'll have to be careful...

[The bathing suit is still smoldering on the floor in the room, as he elbows his way through the door and inside. Quickly setting his own cups down on a tabletop, he goes to tug the blanket in question off the bed.] Besides, it's okay if the blanket burns a bit too, I guess...I don't use the bed anyway.

[He pauses, hovering uncertainly for a moment with blanket in hand.]

Uh, so I just--lay it on top of the fire? [DOES...THIS....]

Yeah, we need to carefully drape it over the fire.

[But yes, getting the blanket wetted down first.]

The main reason why it's important to know if it's a chemical fire or not is because... Chemical fires are supposed to explode if they mix with water, I think? At that point, a blanket isn't going to help much.

[Oh my god what.

He does pause, at least, to let Uzuki wet down the blanket a little bit first--but at the words he stops short, staring at her.]

Oh--explode, do they really?! [Yes, they do, a small not-panicked voice in the back of his head reminds him dryly; but that gives him pause, staring between the blanket and the still-burning swim trunks for a moment. On one hand, they could try looking for something fire-dousing that isn't water, but on the other hand they really need to get this put out...so, after a bit, he raises the blanket a bit more resolutely.] Okay, that makes sense! We can't let this burn for too much longer, though, so--I think I'm going to give the blanket a shot first. I think I'll be okay, if it does explode! But you should probably stand back a ways just in case...

Ah, yes!

[She's backing up, but sticking by the ladder out for now, in case a rescue is needed.]

If it does explode, probably our best chance is probably to seal off the room for a bit. We might be able to cut off the oxygen to the room and cut out the fire that way once it's sealed off.

[But yes, please be okay.]

[GOOD PLAN, UZUKI...Megaman waits until she's a proper distance away, readying the blanket in his hands.]

Yes, that's a good idea too! It might be a bit hard on the room, but as a last resort it'll have to do... [God why are mystery fires so high maintenance. Why do mystery fires keep happening in his life. EVEN OUT HERE...grimacing a bit, Megaman holds the blanket out above the bathing suit remains. Either way, it certainly wouldn't be the first time he's ever had something explode in his face--and it probably won't be the last, either! Cyber life is interesting like that, at least...]

Okay, here goes! Ah, I'm going to count down, so you can get ready...three! Two...one-- [Aaand blanket-draping is go! After which point Megaman immediately steps back, arms half-upraised over his face for the worst.

Actually, I thought wearing clothes in the water is a standard thing? When it comes to swimsuits, anyway--that's why they're called that! ...Right...? [ah who even knows anymore, he certainly doesn't] Is swimming with them really that bad?

It's the swimming part that perplexes me. Where I come from, nobody does that sort of thing by choice. If you are in your clothes and in the water, it's likely because you've fallen out of your boat.

Oh! Oh, yeah, when you put it like that--it probably wouldn't be very nice to end up in a lot of water without being prepared for it... [He hums a bit, thoughtfully.] If people know how to swim, most of them do it for fun, back home! But I guess swimming isn't as much of a hobby where you're from? [Wait, but hold on--] Ah, but if you're on a boat...why wouldn't you want to know how to swim?

Oh, I agree that you would, if such a thing happened. I think it's less a reflection of the desire not to drown and more a reflection of the quality of the water there.

[Anders has not yet had the privilege of being introduced to the smoke and/or fire, and was in fact just loitering outside of the kitchen finishing the frankenstein snack concoction he's made for himself.

He watches all of this occur with an air of wary detachment, and he stares down the hallway Megaman just came sprinting down from before he sticks his head into the kitchen. The cups have made an appearance. Maker preserve them all.]

Juuuust curious, on a scale from one to ten, how concerned should I be about [a vague hand gesture] all of this? Because it could go either way.

And okay, so maybe he can get a bit weird sometimes it's true--it happens, when you're still only three-quarters adjusted to how things happen in the real world like this. Like spontaneous clothing combustion. Crazy real world business, that. Technically he knows how he should be dealing with that, but execution, well...

The cups are very slowly filling, at least, and Megaman seems determined--he's switching from his second cup to his third, as Anders speaks up and he looks over wide-eyed.]

Anders! Um--maybe pretty concerned, I think? Something in my bunker caught on fire! But I still don't know how...I--I think it was my bathing suit...? [Caught up as he is, the third cup fills without him noticing, and starts overflowing around this time; Megaman starts as water begins dripping onto the floor, pulling the cup away immediately.] Oh! I'm sorry--I'll clean up, later, I just-- [APPLIES FOURTH CUP ah it should be enough after this right...]

You started a fire. In this tin can? How'd you even manage it?

[They all knew bathing suits were trouble. He casts a glance down the hallway again, suddenly unsure what might happen if fire spreads in such a small space.

Smoke is bad enough on its own. He doesn't want to think about it.]

Don't answer that. Come on. [He makes a vague reaching gesture for the cups.] Three will be enough with me around.

O-Oh...oh, okay!

[Honestly he's not entirely sure how much water even is enough water, for things like this--the general solution to a fire-type virus is to soak it until it's destroyed, but obviously that doesn't really apply so well here! Anders seems to know what he's doing, though...and so, somewhat reluctantly, Megaman puts down the fourth cup and breaks away from the machine with the three cups in hand.

And even if Anders tells him not to answer that, he just--]

I don't know, though! I didn't start it, I wasn't even in the room! But I went by the room one time and everything was fine, and then the next time something in it was on fire... [STILL VISIBLY RATHER DISTRESSED ABOUT THIS HONESTLY as they start down the hallway towards his bunker room and, accordingly, the source of the smoking.] You're--you're good with fires? I mean, putting them out, that is--?

No. No they do not. But, you were not the only one caught off guard by this.

[Wanda had also tried to keep her bathing suit. More as a keepsake, she had made some good memories on the blue planet. But... clearly Atroma had other plans.]

[It's such a shame, isn't it? He hadn't really had an opinion on his own trunks one way or another, but maybe it would have made a nice gift for somebody his own size someday...

Oh no! Did yours catch on fire too, then? [THIS IS MILDLY REASSURING BUT ALSO...ATROMA WHY....] I hope you were able to put it out okay! But it sounds like it really must be something with the suits given out by Atroma, then...

[Wanda lets out a frustrated sigh on her side of the screen as she thinks about the damage the com-busting swimsuit did to the inside of her storage locker. She'd also lost a basket she'd bought on the blue planet, and two of the skirts she bought as well.]

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that. They really should have warned us better, if something like this was going to happen!

If you got something damaged by the fire, though, I wouldn't mind offering help to fix it? I'm an engineer, so it wouldn't be so hard, I don't think. Well, unless it's not really something you can engineer on...

Sadly, I do not think your engineering skills would be of much help. If you happen to have any sowing abilities, perhaps then I would ask for your help.

[At the very least, the offer brought a small grin to Wanda's face.]

Thank you for offering, but I do not think even the best seamstress in this fleet would be able to repair them completely.

It is all right. I am sure I will find some replacements soon enough.

Oh, no, I'm ok! Don't worry! I never wore those swim trunks at all, it's kind of why I kept forgetting to throw them away! I just stored them in my room, and it was a low priority...

It ended up on the floor once it started burning but that's about it! We got water and a blanket on it. And it didn't explode, so it wasn't a chemical fire either! I was just. Really caught off-guard...mostly I'm worried about anybody else that might have the same thing happen, now.

Yeah, I'm glad too, to be honest! That was still a kind of close call...and I'm not so good at repairing myself, yet.

It looks like a couple more people on my ship had their bathing suits catch fire too though, yes. As well as somebody else from another ship, I think...everybody seems ok so far, but I think it's pretty lucky if nobody got injured! I wonder why they would build clothes like that to start with...
