Who: Tony Stark and you!
Broadcast: Video
Action: N/A
When: Aug 21

[ so, he's arrived and rogue filled him in on the important details of who was here that he may know - or may yet know, thanks to timelines being what they are. it's the sort of thing he's had experience dealing with before, but it was still annoying. in luceti, no one else had been privy to details that hadn't happened to him yet. if they even pertained to the same version of him - tony was well aware of the fact that there were several other iterations of himself somewhere out there in the cosmos. he's gotten used to it. ]

Alright - so, I'm here. [ does he even need to introduce himself? everyone knows who he is, right??? of course they do. ] Sound off if you think we need to talk and I'll use my flawless judgment to decide if it's worth my time.

[ yep. ]

For the rest of you, I need to know about switching my augment. As much as I like having my name on a door, I'm not here to help anyone sort out their issues. Believe me - that's not good for anyone. Especially me.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen coffee available here. If this changes, I can let you know.

Beyond that, I do have other skills. As a robot, I possess a certain strength and speed that may be useful. I'm also in possession of a communications augment, and the skills that this implies. I am... flexible, and I would like to help, if I am able.

Yes, that's correct. I'm a humaniform robot, to be accurate.

[Probably is, but Daneel is immune to impolite.]

I would prefer if you did not. My positronic brain must be sealed and shielded before being activated, and attempting to physically open my skull would almost certainly cause me to cease functioning permanently.

I would prefer you did not.

[And he'll go on repeating that.]

I am perfectly happy to answer what questions I am able, as well as allow you to examine what parts of me are accessible. I'm certain you have been successful in the past, but what you propose would destroy me.

[He considers.]

You are welcome to look at any of my more accessible parts. The inner workings of my chest and limbs are available to you.

My power source is a compact fusion generator located in my chest. That is removable, though I would need a secondary source of power while I was without it. The structure of a positronic brain quickly breaks down without a constant power source.

[So. You know. Be careful please.]

Volatile?

[Daneel looks at him, rather curiously.]

If you'll pardon me for saying so, that is a very Earthlike attitude. Fusion is perfectly safe in this form. I realise that nuclear power, fission and fusion, have a poor history on Earth, or at least they do in the reality I know, but such dangers are many centuries old. The form of fusion that powers me is not significantly radioactive. Truthfully, I am more sensitive to radiation than a human being is.

As long as proper precautions are taken. I don't wish to be inadvertently deactivated.

[He has far too much to do, you see.]

Originally, I was meant to be able to move freely in places where my Spacer creators were unable to go, specifically Earth, where robots are unwelcome and the immune systems of Spacers are vulnerable. Dr. Fastolfe also had some interest in the growth and development of a humanlike brain when he made me as humaniform as possible, not just in appearance but in mind.

While it is true that Spacer worlds are generally more advanced than Earth, it wasn't the technology level that made robots unwelcome. After all, the earliest robots were made on Earth, and when I was first activated there were still robots active and working in Earth Cities. They were simply unwelcome. Many humans saw them as a threat to their livelihoods.

In fact, I witnessed a riot caused by the presence of robots working as clerks in a shoe store.

The robopocalypse?

[He raises an eyebrow.]

Impossible. The First Law states that a robot must not harm a human being.
thezerothlaw: (oh!)

[personal profile] thezerothlaw 2015-09-12 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
The First Law cannot be broken. The Laws are inviolate. Attempting to break them would... would...

[The idea is so upsetting he has to stop and recover, eyes closed for a moment. Yes okay he kind of made a workaround but superceding a Law with a more important one isn't breaking it.]

It is not possible. It would destroy a robot to try.
