[ she looks a little concerned ]

[ he shrugs a little awkwardly, but seems vaguely relieved at the assertion at the same time. ]

[ she shows up not too long after and knocks on the doorframe lightly ]

[ he sits up straight, swinging his legs over the side of his bunk. he'd been playing with the communicator, but it doesn't look like he'd been doing much with it. ]

Hey. C'mere.

[takeabow]

[ she comes over and offers her hand to lace their fingers? and sit down next to him ]

You got new memories?

[evildetector]

[ he'll accept it immediately, but he seems pretty obviously tense. ]

Yeah. A crapload, all at once.

[takeabow]

I kind of hoped we were done with that.

[evildetector]

Yeah. Me, too.

[ stiles leans into her, frowning thoughtfully at the wall. ]

I had a girlfriend.

[ it's one of the least dramatic revelations from his memories, but still: he feels like he should tell her or something. ]

[takeabow]

[ to be honest, she's not sure how to respond to this. Is it just a statement of fact? Is it the beginning of another conversation? He knows how complicated things were for her... should she give him the same benefit of the doubt? Does this mean that he won't want to take her back to Beacon Hills? What if... and if... and if...

Since he's spent so much time with her, he might notice the subtle panic in her response, but it's not so apparent that a stranger would see it ]

Sorry, that was a dumb thing to start with.

[ because he can hear the panic, but he's not super sure what to do with it yet. he just squeezes her fingers a little harder, glancing over at her face. ]

There's just a lot of stuff to sort through.

[ she relaxes a bit and squeezes his hand back ]

No, it's fine. Sorry. Do you want to talk about her?

[ he leans to the side, nudging her shoulder with his. ]

We're kinda on the rocks right now a little anyway, I think. [ ughh. ] Everyone kinda is.

[ she extricate the hand closest to him from his and wraps her arm around his shoulder if he lets her, playing with his hair lightly as he leans. she then goes to hold the hand she just let go with her free hand ]

What do you mean?

Weird stuff happening. Dad got hurt. People are being made into chimeras? It's kind of hard to think about, it's like I had an entire book shoved into my brain at once.

[ yeah no he likes that a lot, if the way he kind of cuddles into her shoulder is any indication. ]

Scott hates me.

[ so dramatic............. ]

[ she'll keep at it, then, gently, and keep her voice soft ]

Scott? Hate you? Come on, I've met him. I don't think that's possible.

Yeah, well. Then I killed a guy and everything started to go to hell.

[ things he couldn't tell anyone, because he cared so much about it. things he's worried about telling nova, too, just because the response he'd gotten from malia ('i don't care about it') had made him so weirdly nauseated. ]

[ she doesn't not care about it. she definitely doesn't not care about it. but she also understands that there can be circumstances, and it'll never make her feel great, but Stiles is such a good person... ]

What happened? I mean, why did you kill him?

[evildetector]

Because he was chasing me! Because he was gonna kill me, and he was gonna kill my dad, and I didn't have a choice!

[ hey, stiles: the words 'it was an accident' also help a lot here. ]

It sounds like you didn't have a choice. I... it's hard. It's not easy to deal with it. But I can't fault you for that.

[evildetector]

[ that answer, as simple as it is, gives him such a rush of relief that he feels like he should do something dramatic here. lean up and kiss her maybe, or make some sort of embarrassing declaration, but instead he just sighs a little bit, squeezing her hand hard. ]
