[She waggles her fingers at the dashboard, and a couple of potato chips that she totally didn't leave there jump and scatter.]

[Of sorts, anyway, and James' lips twitch into a grin at the jumping chips. He's so not cleaning those up.]

But it's a bit different than using your wand, and a hell of a lot of effort -- and the type of wandless magic I'm best at is a bit useless on a spaceship.

[She laughs to herself.]

[A note of teasing in his tone, though, and James twists about to talk to Alex properly. The ship will probably be fine.]

[It's said reflexively, but without a lot of heart in it -- James misses his biffle. :c He's fairly certain all of this would be much easier if Padfoot were around, because Sirius has a habit of turning everything into a grand adventure. And he's a horrible influence, which suits James just fine, and --

There's a slight pause, and James seems to realize what Alex said in the first place, and there's a slight grin -- an annoying grin, one where James seems to ~know something that he probably shouldn't.]

[James knows Sirius better than anybody else in the entire bloody universe, alright.

Yes. In fact, he found them charming.

[She laughs at her own joke, but gives a little eyebrow waggle to let him know she's dead serious.]

James' eyebrows arch slightly and he settles back in his chair, looking a bit -- well, amused by the entire thing. Sirius Black has quite a lot of lovely ladies at school, trailing after him, wanting his attention. He hardly gives them the time of day, but when he does -- well.

Sirius, himself, is rather charming.]

How delightful.

[Dryly, resting his elbows on his knees.]

Was that before or after he showed off his impressive encyclopedia of knowledge?

Oh, after. It would take a lot more than that to make him unattractive.

[She has to smile, thinking about him. The last time they spoke, he told her all about the war he was facing at home, and judging by James' age she's guessing he hasn't gotten there yet. She decides to stick to the shallower side of their relationship.]

And by "a lot more" I mean dumping me for with a little more in their britches.

[James winces to himself before sighing -- it's a massive sigh, one that he has expelled many a time.]

He does that.

[Somewhat apologetically. Sirius is his responsibility at least 87% of the time.]

He's a bit of a stupid git, but he means well.

[Usually. Sirius has had a shit life, okay. James is far too forgiving.]

Yeah, I mean, we're fine. He was one of my best friends before I came here.

[And she misses him like hell, but she's not going to admit him.]

He and his boyfriend. Can't remember his name, though. Something equally flouncy and English.

[James opens his mouth to say 'well, glad he's managed to make at least one friend', but --

There's a blink, and a slight tilt of his head, and an open mouth that almost forms the word what, but for the love of everything, James looks a bit like a deer caught in some headlights.

[With the utmost of straight-faces, solemn and pensive, almost as if poor Walburga Black cannot help her own fate as a certifiable loon.
