[He's teasing, though, as he tosses her another t-shirt; this one's oversized.] Which reminds me, actually, we should probably think about what we wanna upgrade next.

[She smiles, half-heartedly reaching out to stop the tossed shirt midair. She misses spectacularly.]

Oh, yeah. What are you thinking? Kitchen? Actual bedrooms?

Bedrooms would be nice. [He's seen other ships, okay - privacy would be super ideal. He'd stop living in the med bay 24/7.]

We've upgraded the kitchen a few times already, but it's not as pressing for me as bedrooms or the showers.

Same, I'm gonna go crazy without some privacy. And you do pretty well with the kitchen we have already.

Yeah. We've got a great crew, but I'm sure even they want their own space.

[He'd blush at the cooking comment, but he knows that if he didn't cook regularly, no one would.] It helps, in the "making me look as human as possible" way.

Dude, you don't sleep and you drink tea like it's oxygen. Me and James are wizards. Max has some kind of weird psychic thing going on. And I don't even know about engine kid. None of us are normal, you don't need to bend over backwards to fit in here, when it's just us.

[He shakes his head a little.]

Even if everyone else has powers, I'm still the freaky vampire who drinks blood to survive. I can't... exactly risk them thinking worse of me, or telling others on the Fleet about it. [He glances down at the writing on one shirt, a correctly spelled 'Salvation,' and almost laughs at it. Talk about irony.]

[She moves towards him like she's about to put her hand on his shoulder, but then stops herself.]

Hey, you're not freaky. You don't have to tell people, but you also don't have to worry about them thinking you're anything less than totally awesome, okay? We had tons of vampires back in Para, and no one thought any less of them, as long as they didn't brutally murder people.

[A very, very forced smile appears as he glances at her.]

Those're pretty low standards. I know I'm being paranoid, but when I've yet to hear a good vampire legend, it's hard to think otherwise.

[He sighs, though it's almost inaudible this time] I just... I never wanted to be a vampire. I sympathized with them, sure, but I never woke up one day and went "hey, immortality sounds pretty cool."

Hey, I may not have any legends but I can tell you that two of the best, most awesome people I've ever known have been vampires.

[She gives him a significant look, as if to say Yes dummy, you're one of them.]

[That actually gets a smile out of him, a genuine one too. He reaches out to her, before hesitating and stuffing his hand back into his pocket.]

Thanks. Is this a witch thing, by the way? The whole "being able to make someone feel better" with just words? Because it kinda feels like a magic spell sometimes.

[She gives a half-smile back in return to him.]

No. It's not even usually a me thing. Just a me-and-you thing, I guess.

I can't say I mind it much. Even if it's not a you thing, it suits you pretty well.

[His face's starting to match his t-shirt, so he ducks his head a little, but the attempt was probably too late.]

Hey, don't say that too loud. I've got a reputation. You just make my good side come out.

[She catches his movement, and her own face warms up just a bit. Even when she's accepted that she can't have the relationship she wanted with him, having a hear to heart like this still makes something flutter in her heart. He makes her so happy.]

It's okay, your secret's safe with me. [He makes the zipping motion with his hand, despite the fact that it makes his face that much more flushed.

Technically, he shouldn't be encouraging any of this, but he cares about her. A lot. Doing anything less would feel weirder.]

Can't have everyone thinking our captain's gone all soft on us, right?

Of course not. I'm strictly a mysterious, bewitching sorceress figure.

[She makes a waggling motion with her fingers, and smiles a little goofily at him.]

[In return, he fakes a horrified look, nearly putting a hand over his heart as he goes to move the crate to a less obnoxious position.] Careful, Ms. Sorceress. I'd make a terrible familiar.

[He does, however, finally go to move the crate to a less obnoxious place.] By the way, take whatever you want. Free cloth's still free cloth.

Hey, you don't give yourself enough credit. I think you'd be an awesome familiar. You've got the cool, broody thing going on already.

[She's very proud that she managed to say "cool" instead of anything embarrassing.]

And I totally will. I bet they'd make nice dish rags.

[He's actually contemplating this.] I just glare at anyone that looks at you funny, right? I think I can handle that.

Dish rags, maybe even another pillow if we stuff one right... Possibilities are kinda endless.

Yeah, and you help bring me mice and stuff for all my spooky potions.

Aw, no eyes of newt or frog hearts? I hear they're especially popular with witches this year.

[He scrunches up his face, just a bit.] On the bright side? Familiars can and will do most of your paperwork.

I'm trying to cut down on frog hearts. They're a little too tender.

[She gives him an especially dorky grin.]

And it's a good thing familiars do the paperwork, because witches don't even know what half the paperwork is.

[One of these days, he's gonna be mad that his captain doesn't keep tabs on the important things. This, thankfully, isn't one of them.]

Word of advice? We probably shouldn't admit that to the rest of the crew.
