[Luckily for Octavia's dignity, somehow her initial waking up freakout wasn't broadcast, so the first televised signs of her include the brunette leaning against the wall, curiously looking over her communicator. She jumps a little when it starts recording, but composure isn't too far off.

A raised brow greets the fleet, followed by a hesitant attempt at a smile. It's a bad one.]

So, space. [It's said in a very dry, unimpressed tone.] Anyone mind telling me what the hell's going on? I've got things to do, and this wasn't one of them... Whatever this is.

[She straightens, moving back to her initial bunk.]

And someone tell me what dick took my sword. I want it back.

[Yep, Kate is officially freaked out now.]

Well, I mean, that hasn't happened yet because it's only 2014 for me. I knew this place did some weird stuff, but...

[Forcing time travel on people isn't something she was really expecting to deal with. And now she knows the Earth is due to be a thing of the past like pretty soon.]

[grounds]

[Her eyes widen in surprise, because what even? She shifts on the bunk, leaning forward.]

What weird stuff?

[Kate moves a little closer, but she won't sit unless Octavia invites her. She's got more manners than that.]

I guess if you're used to ships in space it must seem normal, but don't you think it's at least a little weird that they're throwing in time travel too?

[grounds]

Time travel... [She trails off, clearly trying to digest that. It takes her another moment before she realizes Kate's closer. Octavia scoots over and gestures to the seat next her in a wordless invitation. She moves her legs on to the bed so she's sitting cross legged.]

So you're from the past, or what?

[lightedsoul]

[She sits, honestly glad to be able to after how odd this all is. It's nice to be sitting down so she doesn't have to worry about falling over when she thinks too hard about the world ending like.

Really soon. What the hell.]

I guess so. Or you're from the future. Everyone still lives on Earth in my time.

[grounds]

There were people still on Earth. [She pauses.] We didn't know about them until we got down there.

[Octavia flips through the communicators, skimming old broadcasts, stopping when she sees something.]

Hey, look at this. [She moves so the other girl can see a mention of people being pulled from different worlds. It's on generic arrival number 38436. We won't go into details.]

[lightedsoul]

[Kate's about to ask how, what was different and why wasn't anyone else down there, but she lets it go in favor of scooting closer to see what Octavia's found.]

Well, I guess that makes more sense than it doesn't. Why wouldn't there be more than one world if there's time travel too?

[She still looks pretty blown away by this though.]

[grounds]

Sure, something like that. [Kate actually gets Octavia to laugh a bit. Which reminds her!]

I'm Octavia, by the way.

[lightedsoul]

Oh, Kate. I'm Kate.

[And she automatically offers her hand... and just as quickly realizes that was really dorky. Crap. She drops it quickly, IGNORE IT.]

Just... just pretend I didn't do that, okay?

[grounds]

[A crooked smile makes its way on to her face. She reaches over and takes Kate's hand, shaking it in greeting despite her apparent embarrassment.]

Only if you pretend I didn't do that. Good to meet you, Kate.

[lightedsoul]

It's good to meet you too.

[Nice to be around teenagers who don't judge her for her momentary giant dork moments. So nice.]

So are things better or worse in the future? A lot of movies and stuff say we're either gonna end up with some great utopia or everyone will be, like, completely screwed.

Completely screwed, no doubt. It sucks. [She's so blunt...]
