[Luckily for Octavia's dignity, somehow her initial waking up freakout wasn't broadcast, so the first televised signs of her include the brunette leaning against the wall, curiously looking over her communicator. She jumps a little when it starts recording, but composure isn't too far off.

A raised brow greets the fleet, followed by a hesitant attempt at a smile. It's a bad one.]

So, space. [It's said in a very dry, unimpressed tone.] Anyone mind telling me what the hell's going on? I've got things to do, and this wasn't one of them... Whatever this is.

[She straightens, moving back to her initial bunk.]

And someone tell me what dick took my sword. I want it back.

A few. Nothing actually helpful, but we'll see. [Octavia seems something split between irritation and good natured exasperation. It's complicated.(™) She leans back against the headboard of the bunk, staring at the ceiling.]

Does it end up making any more sense than this?

It depends on what you expect. What are you struggling with?

[There's a silent brow raise at the word choice, but she lets it slide for now.]

I don't know what to expect. I'm asking if it makes any more sense than an inter dimensional reality show.

Nope, that's kind of the end of the line as far as explanations go.

Did you come here from home, or somewhere else?

[grounds]

[Okay, that question earns her an obviously skeptical look.]

Home. What somewhere else is there?

[takeabow]

Other places like this, but instead of a ship in space, sometimes it's a forest or city.

[grounds]

Other place with people from other worlds? [Processing...]

[takeabow]

Yeah, from all over.

[grounds]

[Octavia places her fingers on her forehead, trying to get used to this.]

Okay. That's... okay then.

[takeabow]

... Right.

It's gonna be a lot for you, huh?

[ she's not judging, per se, just... trying to figure out how to explain things ]

[grounds]

[The comment causes her to bristle, dropping her hand and scowling lightly.]

I'll manage. I always do.

[takeabow]

Yeah?

[ brunette dystopian YA protag-off ]

Yeah. [Octavia's face is unflinching when she answers. Unless this girl asks for details, she's not getting them right away.]

[takeabow]

Okay. Well, it gets harder from there. People are from a bunch of different places. The world I'm from originally sucks, then I went to a world where all my memories were taken from me and I had to earn them back through games. Compared to that, this is a walk in the woods.

[grounds]

[That bait works. Octavia's stern look morphs to one of curiosity, but she doesn't ask the questions she wants to. Instead, she goes for something more neutral.]

What I wouldn't give for some woods right now. What's your name?

[takeabow]

Same. That's probably the worst part of all of this.

I go by Nova.

[grounds]

Being stuck in space? I couldn't agree more. [She knows it wasn't meant like that, but she can't help voicing her disdain.]

All right, then. Mine's Octavia. [Someone's not very social, is she?]

[takeabow]

Yeah, the lack of woods and abundance of recycled air.

The space part doesn't seem like a surprise for you. It was for me.

[ look, she's trying, but meeting new people is hard and she's naturally closed off ]

[grounds]

I lived in a space station, full of recycled air and lack of anything colorful, for seventeen years. I've had my fill.

[They're not really fond memories, aside from a few.]

[takeabow]

That sounds... terrible, actually.

[grounds]

It really was. [Especially when she spent most of that time confined to her family's quarters or hiding under the floor boards.]

Needless to say, I'm not too thrilled with the circumstances here.

[takeabow]

We visit other places sometimes. Though our current docking is kind of boring.

What do you like to do?

[grounds]

If there's ground, I'll take it over this.

[The question takes Octavia off guard. Her brow furrows a bit as she tries to think of an acceptable answer.]

We were too busy trying to survive to have much time for hobbies. But uh, I guess I always enjoyed mythology. Learning to fight better's high up on the list, too. Hunting's not bad, either.

[ that actually piques Nova's interest and she actually emotes some ]

What do you hunt with?

[grounds]

I used my sword, but I've got experience with a spear and knife, too. [She shrugs.]

We couldn't waste bullets on hunting, and bow and arrows weren't worth attempting to make when we had no idea how they'd turn out.
