I was told that these augments [she gestures to her own and feels a little stupid for doing so because everybody knows what she's talking about (hopefully)] can alter memories. Does anybody have any more specific information on that?

Like how far back in your memory can it reach? How much can it change? How long does it last?

As far as I am aware, we do not have a definitive answer. Some people seem to have forgotten large swaths of time, while others just have a hard time remembering people that they've met in the last few years.

I think so. I've seen some people have memories return over time, but many don't.

No, they're not from my world. But they know me and they were important to me.

As far as I know, there's no way to... Kickstart the process of regaining old memories. [and she pauses for a moment, before a personal question slips out] Do you think this person is willing to create new memories together?

I think so. I... I hope so?

[It feels wrong not at least making the effort anyway.]

All I can say is how I would feel in that situation.. And I know that if you were willing to make that effort, it would mean the world to me.

If there was a friendship before, I'm sure there will be again. Important relationships are like that, aren't they?

Yeah, they are. [There's a small beat of silence before.] I'm not sure if I'm the same person that she remembers though. I can't promise that things will be the same, but...

I just hope the differences don't make her uncomfortable or have it be too painful to be around me.

But it some ways the differences may make it less painful. If you were the same it may be easy to build up false expectations...?
