[Santanico sits by the window, looking outside at space. At least there isn't sunlight here, she doesn't have to worry about it burning or hurting her skin and yet she almost misses it. She had only spent a month with Richie before ending up here. She only had a month of freedom. It's almost funny.

Except where it isn't at all.

She refuses to be complacent. She spent over five hundred years as a prisoner in that "temple", that place of worship, she will not be another one here. Which is why she opens up her feed. (using the device has been an adjustment)]

Does anyone know who is responsible for us being here? Why has no one fought back? Do you enjoy being slaves?

[Kate hasn't been here long, but she's had some time to adjust. It feels weird to be here in space and even more weird to be in space and be the pilot of a space ship, but she's adjusting. Getting used to this, making friends. She misses her family and wants to go home, wants to see Seth and Richie again, but this place isn't horrible. It could be much worse.

When she rounds a corner and finds Santanico just kind of... standing there, in her new home, it becomes clear just how very much worse it can be.]

For Santanico it might as well be the same thing. She's never had a home that wasn't a prison. Not that she can remember anymore, anyway. It's weird to stare out into the vastness of space and know that for as big as it seems, she's stuck here.

She wants to be back in her own world. To seek the revenge that she deserves and yet -- that has been denied of her.

She's not expecting to see a familiar face. Richie would be a more welcome one -- but instead she's stuck with the preacher's daughter.]

[She doesn't attack -- even if part of her wants to. Part of her just wants to feed and rip and attack but people here don't know what she is. She should use that to her advantage while she can.]

[Shawn's been preoccupied with repairing the ship (it'd taken a bit of a beating on the nebula), but even he can't ignore the shuffle music. No one can.

So once he's done with his repairs of the day, he ostensibly glances around the idea for panel repairs and... well, that sure is an unfamiliar crew member by the window, and she's really pretty too. (Of course, he has Angela. Please keep remembering Angela.) He manages a polite wave, before finally calling out to her.]

Hey. You just arrived, right?

[He's young, it's the first thing she notices. He's pratically still a child. It turns her stomach a little, that they would enslave children on top of whoever else they've brought in here. But she would be lying if she said it surprised her.

Those who enslave never care about things like age.

She turns to face him more directly.]

Correct.

[One word answers. Cool, Shawn can handle those.

Except he feels nervous just looking at her, and he gulps as he nods in return.] I uh, I wanted to see if you were settling in okay.

I know the food isn't that great, and we're still repairing everything. Sorry about the panels, that's all me. [At least he's aware enough to acknowledge it, as he gestures to the screwdriver in his hand.] But hey, we're planet-side, so you can always head over to the moon and grab a drink or play cards or... something.

[She smirks, as if amused by his discomfort. Which she is, at least a little bit. There's always some fun in making people squirm.]

The food is terrible. [Little pills they try to pass off as blood -- like that could ever properly satisfy the hunger that is a constant presence ]

But I had debated checking the moon out, as strange as the words are to say out loud.

[And then there's this one. Did you want bright and cheerful? Because that's practically one of your crewmember's only settings.]

Ah... Another new crew member! Welcome to the Golden. I'm the communications officer for this ship, Uzuki Shimamura. Let's all do our best together while we're here!

[In the most shrewd, deadpan tone possible.]

No one, in the entire fleet, has bothered to come up with a way to leave. Not a single person has been that creative or forthcoming. Everyone is one-hundred-percent happy to be here.

I haven't been here very long, but having a device plugged into the base of your skull that you can't really remove tends to dampen people's enthusiasm, I'd think.

You'd be stupid to think that everyone's happy to be here, though.

wow sounds like your life back home must be super awesome i'm really sorry you can't get back right away but hopefully there will be a way eventually there's a lot of really smart people here who are good at figuring things out and i have faith in them they are kind and generous to go with being really smart

far as i know i'm not a slave though i'm a security officer which is a pretty good job and i work hard to do my best!

but uh it's pretty fucking rude to make assumptions about everyone else in the fleet just fyi

I have things to attend to back home. Whether awesome or not, debatable, but important all the same.

Did you choose to be a security officer? Or did they hijack your brain and force you into it like they did the rest of us.

that's what i got assigned so that's my job and it's a thing i like so that's pretty cool

um on the scale of brain hijacking 0 being no and 10 being like compliance session brain wipe tbh this is like a 2 or 3

like i get why people are uptight about it but it could be a zillion times worse and you'd never even know except everything would taste like honey and you wouldn't be able to stop smiling
