[Someone is experimenting with shipwide broadcast. The screen shows Hange sitting with her hands folded in front of her, grinning amiably at the camera.]

Hmm. Is this thing working? I think so... [She pauses for a couple seconds and then laughs.] Well, I guess I'll find out! Hello, everyone, this is Captain Hange of the SS Red Fish speaking. [She winks.] I just got the paperwork turned in. Sorry to surprise you, Nunnally and Skull, but I decided I'd be up for it and thought it was better to get it done!

Now, I'm addressing everyone today to mention the tiny thing that's been embedded in our skulls! I'm guessing everyone has noticed that they have something in the back of their head that's difficult to even touch. It feels maybe bottle-cap sized! I hope that's familiar-sounding to all of you? I'm a little reluctant to actually open up someone's head but I wonder if anyone has tried that yet! Have you removed someone else's implant? Have you removed your own? If so, amazing! How did you do that? Nunnally let me experiment with hers a little, noninvasively of course, and reported discomfort that seemed unnaturally strong even when another person was just touching it! Thanks for your contributions, brave girl.

Also, as I told some of you, I didn't know anything about space before arriving here, but suddenly upon arriving I do! Also, we have a little room on this ship where I know how to use everything! That's unusual, given my home doesn't have anything close to this level of technology. I'm still exploring that equipment, but I wonder what others have noticed! I certainly don't understand everything on the ship, but I'm guessing if I mysteriously understand this one room, others will understand some other parts! What do you know now that you didn't know before? If you feel up to it, please let me know!

Oh, yes. We met briefly, although it seemed as if something was deeply troubling him.

I haven't seen him around the ship since then... I hope he's alright.

I think you and I will be able to function together, but he needs to be integrated into the crew to at least some degree.

[Hm. She barely knows anything about him, but he doesn't seem like sort who would take well to being forced into anything]

It might take some time, but I think we will be able to.

[whew, Hange's confidence is infectious. Yes, even if it takes some time they can pull their weight and make things work in the meantime]

Yes. Hopefully at the end it will be beneficial for everyone. [hmm] I wonder what skills he's learned.

I'm not sure. He seems like a serious fellow. That's fine, but I'd prefer to at least have a workable relationship with him.

What about you, Nunnally? You're young, but have you studied anything in particular?

[there's a pause that she tries to play off as deciding how to word something]

I had a little formal training in diplomacy, but I don't know how applicable it will be here. The school I attended was for Britannian children, so it was hoped that we would be able to interact with nobles and the like. But... the cultures and people that we encounter here will could have very different sets of manners and diplomacy.

[not to mention that she's acutely aware that she's much younger than most of the people here. Back home she had a royal name to back her up and make people listen, but here it could be seen as laughable]

If you're not finished with your schooling that's unfortunate...

[Hange works with some very young soldiers sometimes - case in point, Eren. And they're soldiers to be respected, which is a big part of the reason that she knows how to treat Nunnally respectfully. But... she is probably underestimating her to some degree because of the wheelchair, automatically writing her out of some plans, and so on.]

What have you noticed about your expertise regarding the ship? Anything?

Yes, I'm sorry if it won't be much help.

[hmm, she taps her chin as she think]

While I don't think that I could determine how to fix anything, I know the name and functions of most things on this ship. It doesn't seem like very specialized knowledge, but I could keep an eye on everything and keep everyone up to date if we have any problems. Ah, and as I mentioned a few days ago, I understand a lot about our communication and short-range transportation machinery.

I assume it's knowledge that you wouldn't have had at home?

No, ah... I'm sorry, I misunderstood.

[she shakes her head]

I didn't have any knowledge of ships before coming here. [she had been aboard some, but it was never with the intention of teaching her anything]

You didn't, really. Anyway - if you've gained this knowledge I'm sure there will be uses for that. I'm assuming they wouldn't give you a pointless job... you'll be able to help, Nunally.

I'm very well aware of my... disadvantages. But I do not intend to be a burden, or act as a child while others are depending on me. [she pauses] I don't know if we will be required to leave the ship very often, but when the situation call for it I can stay behind, maintain communication, observation, and transportation to and from the ship.

[another pause as she blushes slightly. She's coming off as defensive, isn't she? she unconsciously shakes her head slightly] I didn't mean to ramble on like that.

It's all right! I respect that you want to be useful. [And as much as Hange is doing the very thing right now, she can sympathize... a lot of people must condescend to Nunnally and overlook her completely because of the chair.] If you can take care of those jobs and watch over the ship while the rest of the crew is off it, that has its own worth. I suppose you might even be able to learn a firearm.

[she'd considered the possibility before, but... Well, after talking that talk, she does her best confident nod]

I think so. I wouldn't be able to maneuver very well, but I could at least help from a distance.

It's something we can look into and maybe that we should! Not to scare you, but I think you should be prepared to defend yourself.

No, I'm not... [....] I'd be a little frightened, but that would not stop me.

Good girl. Well, I don't know if we can make inroads on that job right now, but let's keep our eyes peeled.

[whew. She nods]

Aye aye, ma'am. Ah... although, that's something you say on a ship, isn't it? Not necessarily a spaceship.
