[he opens up a video feed and adjusts it so that everyone can see... well... something like this going on where he's cleared space in the engine room. it's metal pipes rather than sharp swords, but the thought is still there... the camera moves and Robin's dumb face shows up, grinning--]

Okay, okay. Hey.

You, me. Robot arms that fight each other.

I'll open bets and the rest of my booze. Come on, who's in?

[ riku debates for a good few minutes before he actually comes over.

... look, there's robots, okay?! one can only be so responsible. and sleep-deprived. he yawns, barely covering his mouth with his hand as he pads over towards robin, eying the robots. ]

They're not artificial intelligence, are they?

actually i guess this is action;

Of course not. [he doesn't even look up from his controls at first, making the robot move slightly to the sides as part of a test...] I don't want these things breaking loose and causing havoc.

[and then he looks up--] Ah, your hair looks just as good off-camera, too.

oh yeah i guess

[ huh? he blinks at robin for a moment before turning to look at any shiny surface he can find... oh god. he blushes and tries (in vain) to flatten his hair. ]

You couldn't have warned me?

[how cute... he chuckles at him, watching him fix his hair..]

I didn't know you cared...

I look weird enough without a hornet's nest for hair.

[after which he has the guts to pat the space on the counter next to him, invitingly.]

Come play with the robot arm, it's fun.

[ quit lying is on the tip of riku's tongue, but he just sighs heavily, scrubbing his face. he doesn't get much sleep, but just two hours? he knows that's bad. at least four is better, he can function on four. ]

If I play with the arm, will you tone it down?

...You know what, I'm feeling nice. [he waves the controller again.] Yeah, I'll tone it down.

[limitstorm]

[ good.

he goes over, sitting next to him with his hand outstretched. ]

Fine. One round to break it in before everyone else comes over here.

Great.

[he hands him his controller with nary a hair-ruffle or a smart comment. he's going to keep his word! at least for now.]

So! I'll go on the other side. Try moving the sticks around.

[limitstorm]

[ his face falls into determination as he fiddles with the controls, looking up at the arms and twisting them around.

at least he's a very quick learner. ]

Alright. [ a pause. ] ... those pipes aren't gonna slip out, are they?

Funny story about that...

[he says as he picks up the other controller and settles on the other side...]

We stuck on some extra tread and locked the fingers down after Lloyd swung too hard... Nearly wound up with a pipe through the lung. It was hilarious, in retrospect.

[ riku jerks, alarmed and glancing to robin. then, he looks suspicious. ]

You're joking.

No sir. There's a dent in the wall right over there.

[which is when he chooses to deftly swing his robot arm, pipe in hand, in the direction of Riku's--one-shot-kill, right at the little censors. the two of them automatically reset to starting position.]

[ riku jumps when he hears the clang of metal on metal, and then shoots robin a look. ]

Did you just cheat?

Ha! No, no. I'm just resetting them. Doesn't even count.
