[ why hello there, fleetians. this broadcast is brought to you by the letter W, as in WHY THIS WHY ME. which is, coincidentally enough, one of the many thoughts buzzing through weiss' mind ever since she'd woken up to find herself in space. though she supposes after a "digital" space, regular space shouldn't be too difficult to adjust to. boy, is she trying.

she might actually look familiar to some of you — there had definitely been an accidental broadcast or two of her as she fumbled through her first few hours on marsiva — mostly boring stuff like meticulously combing through any and all information she could find on her communicator (and taking an extensive amount of notes on them), stuffing her face into a pillow and screaming at the top of her lungs, and staring into a mirror and giving herself a pep talk in an attempt to Get a Grip.

apparently the Grip has been Gotten (or maybe she just grew impatient), for now she's making her first broadcast, a pleasant smile plastered on her face. ]

Good ev— [ she pauses, glancing briefly to the side; how does one even tell time in space.... ] — Greetings. [ her smile becomes just a touch more strained. ]

My name is Weiss Schnee. As the newest Communications Officer of the S.S. Three Twins, I thought it was prudent to introduce myself to the rest of the ship. I can't say I have much experience in the area of... space pioneering — [ or reality tv star, for that matter, but she's pointedly choosing to Ignore that bit of the deal thankyouverymuch ] — but when it comes to diplomacy and intermediation, I have an extensive background.

[ a brief pause. shoot, she's already forgotten her place. best to just wrap this up..! ]

It's a pleasure to make all your acquaintances. I look forward to working with you all.

[ another pause, and then she suddenly remembers—! ]

Oh, and if anyone might know where I can get some binders, I'd really appreciate the tip.

[ from the looks of it, she'll probably be needing more than one... ]

[He's sure he somehow found a few pieces of scrap paper amongst the books the other day. It just takes him some time to find out where he placed them.

Kurt still feels confident that he'll make it on time... but he doesn't keep track of time at all. It's 12 minutes when he wanders into the area and looks around for miss white snow.]

[ he'll find her standing in the center of the common area, staring intently at the digital analog on her communicator as another minute ticks by. on a table despite her is a neat stack of what has to be at least half an entire ream of white paper.

her foot may or may not be tapping impatiently by now. ]

[Once Kurt spots her, he runs right towards her, waving frantically.]

Hey! Hi! I made it! Just in time.

[ —???

when he first approaches her, all weiss can do is stare in surprise. both over the suddenness of his appearance and... his actual appearance. it occurs to her a moment later who he is, though, and she takes a moment to just.

realize how very off the mark she'd been in picturing him. ]

[ and then another few moments to feel mildly incredulous because — ??? kurt? pls?? how is this even remotely scary.

if anything, it just looks incredibly uncomfortable. and warm. ]

[ well, whatever. that's not what's important here. what's important is—! ]

"Just in time"? I beg to differ. [ she holds her communicator up to his face, inches away. ] You are a full three minutes late!

[...Wow, he's hella comfortable, excuse you. And now he shrinks back as the communicator is suddenly in his face.]

W-wait, what?! Did you like... have me on a timer?!

Hardly. We had agreed on a set time, hadn't we? Did you not expect I'd hold you to it?

I... guess I didn't, really... I- I didn't think this would be a big deal!

Of course it would be! [ maybe not as big a deal as she's making it out to be, but... ]

Once you make plans with someone, it's only right you do your best to stick to them.

[ hello, it's propriety 101 ]

I'm sorry! I am sticking to these plans... like jam! I just... lost track of time, that's all!

[ jam....?

—no, no. focus! ]

Did you at least bring your necessary materials?

Y-yeah, totally! I got some papers right here! [He hastily holds up the few sheets of paper he has in his three-fingered hand.]

[ her eyes narrow a little at the sight of that hand... and for a moment it looks as if she might have Something to Say about it.

but then her lips purse, and she's refocusing her stare back on his face, eyes sharp. ]

Are they supposed to be wrinkled?

[His smile shrinks meekly as he realizes this.]

Um... Not really! But... That won't really get in the way!

[ she looks Unsure, but seems willing to give him the benefit of the doubt... for now.

she turns towards her own neat stack of papers, and is just about to reach for one when something occurs to her.

rather hastily, she asks, ]

I won't — that is... it'll be alright if I work with five fingers, won't it? [ she darts a hesitant glance towards his hand again, though it's obvious she's Trying Not to Stare. ]

[Well that's awkward. He blinks for a moment and then glances at his hand self-consciously for a moment. Then he looks back at Weiss with an attempt at a smile.]

Um... of course! I'm not going to ask you to make some fingers disappear. And, you know... it's supposed to be done by- by normal hands.

[A light sigh but then he turns that breath into a joke.]

So, I bet it'll come in hand-y!

[ she looks suddenly regretful that she'd even brought it up in the first place. but — but it had been a reasonable question, hadn't it? it's not as if she'd meant it maliciously...! ]

—are your hands not normal for your world?

[ see? she's being sensitive. enough so that she's coolly ignoring that terrible joke... ]

[omg it was at least as cool as her pun!

He does shake his head, shifting a little bit uncomfortably in place.]

N-no. In fact, in that area... I guess you can say I'm one of a kind. [He sighs. Right now, he's not sure if he should feel proud or ashamed of that.]

...I'm a mutant. And all of the- all of the 'normal' humans look more like you.

[ oh. oh she definitely messed up here, didn't she?

hastily (perhaps too hastily), she says, ]

Well. Certainly not exactly like me. I'd hate to think there was an entire world out there full of Weiss Schnee doppelgangers.

I mean — [

] — Schneeze at.

[ eh? ]

[He stares her down for a moment, seriously. As if she said the wrong thing.

...Except after a few seconds, it may seem clearer that he's trying to hold back some laughter.]

[Then finally, he cracks a smile and shrugs.]
