[He'd been warned that they were usually on smaller ships. He thought he was prepared for that. It meant fewer people, fewer worries... didn't it?

Only not really. He's not a people person, not really, and it's kind of draining to be here acting like he is for no pay and no good reason.

Okay, maybe there is pay, he doesn't know that. Whatever.

Qing can be found just generally getting used to the layout of the place, at first. It's small but not cramped, and once he gets used to the folding furniture and the like, it's honestly kind of cozy. More than his apartment back at home, even.

Later on, he'll be easily found in the kitchen, restlessly looking over the... ingredients... there and just generally trying to take stock of this whole new situation. It's not going well, but you might be hard-pressed to tell from the absent look on his face.]

[While Qing's busy getting himself acquainted to where everything is, he'll run into Joseph on the bridge. He's in the pilot's seat, but he's not piloting. Instead, Joseph's got his feet up and left the Caprine on autopilot. He's also got his aviator hat on his face and happens to be snoring. Loudly.]

[You can wake him up though, Qing. It'll be fine.]

[Usually, he's not the type to be inclined to wake someone when they seem to be quite comfortable. It's a bit rude, and with the fact that nothing is crashing and burning right now... well.

Maybe this place is already getting to him, a little. Maybe it's just the mildest of irritations at someone who appears to be sleeping on the job.

He doesn't even know if speaking alone will be enough to wake someone who appears to be so deep in sleep, but hey. Start with the simple, then move on to more complex things.]

... Is the chair really that comfortable?

[As it turns out, it's appearances only for Joseph and he jerks awake at the sound of someone else's voice. Sitting upright, he lets his feet hit the floor again and he pushes his hat back up out of his face. He looks at Qing in confusion.]

Bwhat? [Hold on. He'll catch up. Joseph squints a little, rubbing one of his eyes with a hand.] Oh.

[Joseph yawns and puts his feet back up.]

Are you new or looking for someone?

[How do you fall asleep like that and get that startled when someone... never mind. Qing resists the urge to shake his head, doubly so when Joseph just puts his feet back up.]

Ah... New. [It's quite a cast of quirky people here, he supposes; that's maybe kind of awkward, since he feels he himself is, well, not.

There's a moment of awkward silence where he's... once again reminded how much he doesn't know about conversing before he just opens his mouth again. At least there's a little smile there.]

... Qing-Yuan. And you are?

[Joseph folds his arms loosely during the small lapse. He doesn't really mind awkward silences that much mostly because he's usually the first to start filling them. But since Qing takes it upon himself to start filling it...]

Joseph Joestar's the name, but you can call me Jojo.

[Don't worry, there will be plenty of silences to fill soon enough. Qing's smile widens a little, still remaining soft as it is.]

Jojo, then. It's nice to meet you.

You, too. [Especially since he's not going to be weird and try to stick to Joseph like some people.] So what's your job around here supposed to be?

Ah, that... lab assistant, evidently. [He laughs a little, rubbing the back of his head.] I suppose I know my way around a first-aid kit, but... well, I'll learn whatever I have to, I suppose.

[Not much choice, is there?]

[Joseph makes a slight face.]

Remind me to never put you in charge of pep talks...

[Because that's not very inspiring, buddy. But don't feel bad. He wouldn't let anyone on this crew give a pep talk, so it's nothing particularly personal.]

... It's not like that. [Qing laughs a little, expression soft and fairly bright.] It's better to know the real limitations of your crew before you need them, right?

It's different when you're trying to be reassuring.

[Maybe it's a little funny, how easily he says that, and how almost perfectly natural the expression on his face looks.]

[Joseph shrugs a little. Not that Qing doesn't have a valid point, buuut...]

I get that, but you know limitations don't really mean much if something comes up.

No... that's true, too. I'd rather have fewer of them by the time it comes of use. I can improvise, of course.

[There's a brief pause, like he's not sure whether he should even be asking-]

Do you know of anyone who would be good to talk to on the subject?

Nope. [He shakes his head. He doesn't hang out with a lot of medical personnel.] You could ask on the network though. Someone's bound to answer. Or if you don't wanna ask everyone, you should talk to Ino. She's good about that sort of thing.

[Oh, and he's met Ino already. That helps.]

I see. Thank you. I've met a couple of people who know a bit about it, at least. [It was probably a silly question, in hindsight. Ah well.]

If you wanna learn anything about piloting though, I can help you out.

[Would it keep you awake, Jojo-- imeanwhat]

Ah, I might take you up on that sometime. Though, I can't be sure I'd be much of a student - I was still getting used to driving cars...

[Driving cars through the most crowded damn part of Chinatown, but still.]

It's easier than driving a car since there's not that much traffic. You'd pick it up quick.

[The narrator's always rude.]

Ah, you think so? [He's honestly a little flattered to hear it.] Well, if there's a specific time you have free, I'd be happy to learn a little. I'm not really used to having a lot of teachers. [A beat.] .. Outside of college, of course.

Oh? You go to university?

[Joseph would never because he's not a fan of formal education, but that's still neat! And reassuring if this guy's going to be doing medical stuff.]

For a few years now. It's a long-study program, so I have a good three years left.

[His major also has absolutely nothing to do with the medical field, but we'll keep that to ourselves.]

[It probably wouldn't bother Joseph too much to know that it's not in the medical field. Probably. That's maybe not such a bad secret to keep.]

Well, hopefully you don't forget all the stuff you've already learned while you're here or you're gonna have to start over, huh?

[He laughs at that much.]

I don't think that's a huge problem. I can always see if I can keep up with my studies, anyway. [A beat, then in a clearly joking tone:] I'm not sure if you just doubt my mental capacities or your own.

[Joseph still frowns a little because it's hard not to get at least a little defensive and shrugs.]

I don't like school, so what? That doesn't make me stupid or something.

[Oh. He hadn't been expecting that. Qing blushes a little, shaking his head and waving his hands lightly.]

I didn't mean it like that! It's not formal education that defines someone's mental strength anyway. [He smiles sheepishly.] I didn't know you don't care for school, sorry.
