[yep. they all got business to attend to. new planet, new crewmate, new problems...]

[She is standing there staring at the contents of the dish, not at Zhas... whether that's happy or immaterial to things. Eventually she decides that this meat looks cooked enough and she reaches out to steal a snippet of cooked ostrich goodness +_+]

[oh, in that case... he catches her reaching, snatches up the wooden spatula, and aims to smack the back of her hand with it.]

Gah! [As he catches her. :'< She drops the meat snippet she'd selected and shakes her hand as if to shake out the sting. Just like being a trainee again...]

It's not done.

[says the skullfaced man in the apron. he gets between her and the food and uses the spatula to stir up all of that frying rice substitute. it'll be like ten more minutes. simmer down, captain.]

It's done enough! [Just the tiniest bit whiny, exaggerated for affect, and then she laughs. Fine, she'll wait... if he insists...]

[he does insist. he only shakes his head at her whining and packs the mix down into the pan again. :/]

[God fine she'll wait, she'll wait. She just stands there... staring at the food...]

[after another few minutes of standing around, moving things, cleaning out that pot, and stirring up the food one last time... he finally turns the burner off and gestures to the pan.

now she can steal some. he hopes she burns her fingers. not out of malice, just because it'd be really funny.]

[She snaps it right up, hissing at the heat briefly, and pops it into her mouth - sucking on her fingers because it was hot, and that cuts the sting a little. But her verdict...]

Not bad.

[hah. yeah, that was funny.

he gets two bowls out, starts scooping food into them, and then just... hands out one for her. this is yours. eat your lunch.]

[Oh man she wasn't expecting to actually get fed a meal, she just wanted to steal a bite before she went out. Not that she'll turn it down now.]

[he takes his apron off. :X but shovels up his own bowl, too. grabs a fork, leaves the drawer open for her to do the same.

and so begins his usual routine of leaning against a counter and shoveling food into his face. it's really good, though, so he's maybe... a little slower than usual? like wow, this tasting things... thing... is a weird experience.]

[She'll lean companionably with him, sighing contentedly as she forks food into her face. Ah, this is nice. A thought strikes her after a moment though, and she pauses...

... then, no, she'll wait until they're both done eating to bring anything up. The dog doesn't need to be distracted from his food.]

[probably for the best. it'll be gone in a couple of minutes anyway.

BAM bowl's down. good work, team. he can go fold up his apron and throw it in a drawer somewhere.]

[Since he cooked, she'll start the washing.]

Do you have any plans for today, champ?

[sweeeeet. he'll give that so-so gesture he's so fond of before standing off to the side, out of the way. ]

[doop doop one bowl is finished. She starts the other.]

So, Cecil's with us now.

[a huff. he knows....]

Is there going to be a problem with that? [Too mellow to be accusatory.]

[he thinks about it, crossing his arms.

he's fine. sure, he'd love to punch her in the throat, but he knows how to control himself around guests and co-workers and, especially, non-vampires. they've talked. he's got her angle. he's starting to understand the value of having a functioning crew, out here.

so it's not really himself that he's worried about. he gestures to get her to look over at him, then signs Coil's nickname.]

[She glances... and then bows her head and smiles a little. Woosh, second bowl down and she plunges the pan under the water now.]

Yeah, I figured that might be the case. I've noticed that you manage the kid, but he's pretty sulky and uncooperative otherwise.

[he signs something else, but stops awkwardly--she wouldn't know it. he'll give, for this one.]

How bad.

Livable, I suppose, but not pleasant. I'd call it insubordinate at home, but we don't have that structure here.

[he sets his jaw, thinking on it further...]

...We do. I'll handle it.

[The pan is done. Hange reaches over to give him a thump on the back.]

Cecil can be kind of effusive, right? Very... personal, I mean.

[Because... Hange can be pretty effusive too, to be fair. But her deepest emotions are held reserved and in check, even if it wouldn't seem that way to most people.]
