We're at war, for starters. And, ah-- magic.

[He feels a prickle of panic at mentioning it-- but if James is going around enchanting snowmen, it's clearly not a secret any longer.]

Yeah? We don't have magic in my world, but Aather had a lot of it, and I've seen some here, too.

[Well, that's him taught. He'd been gearing himself up to explain magic to the muggle, using terms as simple as possible-- and she already knows it. It's a good reminder not to assume.]

Right, well. It's a magic war, obviously. Over those who have it and those who don't.

[ she'd never claim to understand it with any depth but, eh, unexplainable things happen. ]

[He settles in, resting his forearms on the table. They're scarred, though not with any real method-- just little scars, white and shiny. For the first time he seems relaxed.]

In my world, a majority of the population has no magic. Those of us that do keep it a secret-- we have our own community, government, et cetera. Mostly the populations ignore one another, but . . . there are those that think a more violent approach ought to be taken. That the non-magic peoples, as well as anyone with non-magic blood in them, ought to be killed.

I'm a half-blood, myself. My mother hadn't an ounce of magic, but she was worth just as much as anyone else I've ever known. As for why . . . I can't honestly say. Prejudice? Hatred? Fear of the unknown? I couldn't say.
