[Confidence. Sureness. That's what the audience wanted, wasn't it? As much as Jennifer hated playing up to them and dancing to Atroma's whistle to any degree, confidence was what was needed here, too.]

for those who haven't met me, my name is Dr. Jennifer Keller, and I'm the medical officer on the Wonderduck. Allen mentioning his blood drive reminded me... since we seem to be back on our ships for the time being and I actually have an infirmary again, I'm going to resume offering first aid lessons for anybody willing to learn. If you do have prior medical experience, all the better, but even if you have none, I can teach you.

I dare say you do not .... [He laughed quietly, as he looked at her, then looked around with bright interest.] Unlike me, who has quite a few to spare.

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing- everyone on my team has times where they get mean. It's human nature, I've found. And me being so nice means it can be difficult to be assertive when I need to be.

So what you are truly saying is - there must be a balance in things. Between kindness, and cruelty. [Tyrion made a soft, thoughtful noise.]

Yeah... because nobody can be nice 100% of the time. Just as nobody can be cruel 100% of the time, either. The world's far from ideal, as much as I'd like everyone to be good and kind to each other.

[tallasaking]

I like your version of the world a lot more than mine, I must say. [He hobbled around the infirmary, before looking back at her.] So tell me, precisely what is it that allows you to know so much of the human heart?

I'm not sure I do, honestly... I just know what my own experiences have told me. My world has had its fair share of conflict and hardship, but I've also been lucky enough to have good people by my side to get through it.

[tallasaking]

You have a truly warm soul, Dr. Keller. I admire your idealism -- even though I know a great deal of that can be turned against you. I truly hope you never lose it, or have cause to lose it.

... me, too. I wouldn't want to be anybody other than who I am now. Maybe idealism isn't always the best attitude to have, but it's what works for me.

[He gave her a little smile, before he found a stool to pull himself up on.]

We all must find what works for us, in this life.

Even if it takes a long time, like it did for me.

[Now she has caught his curiosity again, and he tips his chin back at her.]

Did you not always know you wanted to be a medical doctor?

It was a hard decision in some ways, yes. I accelerated through school, so I had to decide what I wanted to do with my life when I was fairly young, or else be left listless and directionless once I was finished with school. My parents felt like being a doctor would be a good fit for me, since I do care so much about people, but I felt like my confidence issues and shyness might get in the way.

[tallasaking]

You don't seem to lack confidence to me. And here you are, conversing with a strange man, from a strange world? How is that shy? Or have I been misunderstanding the meaning for years?

[Jennifer smiled at that.]

Well, you got me there. I'm not nearly as shy as I was when I was a little girl, too, to be fair- I've had time to develop my social skills since then. And, well, it helps that we first connected through something related to my job. I find it easier to talk to people as a doctor.

[tallasaking]

Well, it is easier to talk to people when they are whimpering from pain, yes... and that they remember you kindly is a good indicator.

[forsometimenow]

Yeah... I did tend to get along pretty well with everyone on Atlantis. It's easy to make friends when you're helping someone feel better, too.

[tallasaking]

I truly do envy you your relationships, Doctor Keller. [He rubs his chin.] If I had had one half of the friendships you had ... perhaps I would not have turned out to be such a little shit.

... really? You?

[tallasaking]

Yes, me. [His lips curved up at the edges.] You do not think so.

My impressions so far haven't matched up with that, no.

Well I hope you never see me at my worst, then.

[Jennifer was quiet at that, then gave a half-shrug.]

Well, people are complex creatures. So I wouldn't be so sure of that.

Why, do you think seeing me at my worse is going to make you understand me more?

Maybe- after all, I know I haven't seen the complete picture yet.
