Who: Everyone on the planet!
Broadcast: N/A
Action: Snow planet, it's a winter wonderland~
When: From when the planet is in reach until it's time to leave!

[ ooooh the weather outside is frightful

but the fire is soooo delightful

and since we've got places to goooo

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! ]

[Hange lifts her head at the question, then grins and waves. She's a bit red-faced, sunburn from the snowglare starting to show, but seems cheerful nevertheless and after a moment she gestures to Emblica to come and sit.]

I've been making a nice haul! We've been eating a lot of fish back at the Red Fish. Maybe we'll become tired of it eventually, but it'll make a nice supplement to the protein.

How are you, Emblica?

[ She sort of wipes at the snow on the ground before sitting down, legs tucked under her. ]

It sounds useful. Maybe I should look into taking up fishing.

[ No, she actually doesn't intend to. ]

I've been well. The cold air, I think.

Refreshing, isn't it? [She bounces her rod idly as they speak, making her bait tidbit tempting.]

What do you think? Could you cultivate a live animal, or does your expertise extend to plants?
amarant: (white violet)

[personal profile] amarant 2014-12-28 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
I don't work with live creatures, I'm sorry to say.

It would be nice to learn, though...
aberrant_type: (let's soar!!!)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2014-12-28 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure if you put your mind to it you can learn it! I would like to myself. What if we could take - for example - live fish with us? And cultivate them somehow? We'd have fresh meat consistently, not just on planet!
amarant: (marigold)

[personal profile] amarant 2014-12-28 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Breeding them would have to be the method...they don't grow like plants.
aberrant_type: (science and defiance.)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-02 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right. I admit it's far outside my area of expertise - I'm not sure how many we'd need to make a viable breeding population, nor of how much space would be necessary per fish.

If we come across fish on another planet things there might be different, too... it's difficult because we don't get much time to research things when we arrive at a new stop.
amarant: (marigold)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-03 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
...it is difficult.

If we have easier access to wildlife next time, I'll do my best to get some usable samples.
aberrant_type: (friendly-like!)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-03 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[She takes a hand away from paying attention to fishing, and reaches out to ruffle Emblica's hair.]

You're a great partner even if we aren't sharing a lab.
amarant: (olive)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-04 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you feel that way because we aren't.
aberrant_type: (grant writing.........)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-05 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[She sighs a little]

Keep this confidential for me, but I'd rather share a lab with you than with some people.
amarant: (olive)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-07 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She's....actually kind of flattered. ]

Well. Thank you.
aberrant_type: (i'm so glad)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-08 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Good, that's what Hange intended. She takes her hands back after a moment, still tending the rod. Rhythmic jerks indicate a fish might be on...

- ah, yes! With a small whoop, she jerks the fish out of the water. It's not any too big but lively, flopping, silver sides flashing in the watery light. Hange puts a foot on it to keep the fish from sliding back into the water.]

Gotcha!
amarant: (daffodil)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-09 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
[ Fish GET! Yaaaay. ]

Oh, good job.
aberrant_type: (too much enthusiasm.)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-09 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Here - hand me the knocker. [She points. It's just a simply-carved, sturdy piece of wood, lying near Emblica's foot outside of Hange's reach.]

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-09 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ Pauses until Hange points it out, then she picks it up and hands it to her. ]

The knocker?

[ She can maybe guess what it's for, but who knows if that's right. ]
aberrant_type: (oh i may faint)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-09 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Observe.

[She works her fingers between the hard, curved scales that cover the gill slits. Blood pours out suddenly in a dark purple-red gush; the fish's mouth gapes open and closed. Hange raises the knocker and... POW! The fish gets hit right between the eyes. And again, and again, flopping sporadically as it all happens.

Three hard whacks and Hange counts it as over. The fish gets laid flat on the ice.]

The knocker. You see?
amarant: (olive)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's what she'd guessed; whether because of that or because it simply wasn't a shocking sight anymore, she doesn't react much as she watches. ]

I guess I don't need to ask why it's called that.
aberrant_type: (all work no play)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-09 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's all in the name.

[One fish has been diced up to serve as bait; Hange twists the newly-dead one off the hook and replaces it with a chunk of frosted flesh, and drops the whole setup back in the water.]

Tell me more about your powers?
amarant: (white violet)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-09 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ She's got quite the little system set up here; honestly, Emblica's a bit impressed. ]

Is there anything in particular...?
aberrant_type: (soft.)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-09 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[A model of efficiency, that's Hange.]

Well, maybe... but I'd like to hear you describe it first.
amarant: (white violet)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-09 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ So cool... ]

Someone's ability to use it depends on how much they know. Since I understand plants and how they grow, I can easily grow them. But if it were something like...this--

[ Gesturing to the fish. ]

I don't think there's a lot I could do. I never studied much about them. Moving things around is easy, altering things is a bit more difficult. Creating things is the hardest, I think.
aberrant_type: (science and defiance.)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-09 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you create things? And I presume if you can manipulate things, you know where they are. Is sensing part of your powers?
amarant: (marigold)

[personal profile] amarant 2015-01-10 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Only if the components creating them are there. I've spent a long time studying the world, so that I could be more capable--

[ With a bitter sort of laugh-- a short huff: ]

It's funny, how all that work turned out to be a bad thing.
aberrant_type: (book learning.)

[personal profile] aberrant_type 2015-01-10 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm...

[Emblica has... sort of mentioned this before. Hange quiets down a bit.]

What's the technology level like at your home? Have I asked that before?
