his long, pretty fingers all frozen red and covered in slush.]

Ah, yeah... okay... I can't really feel them anymore.

[time to go somewhere warm. who knows where he'd been originally intending on going. it's been long forgotten.]

[She'll find them something. She slides her arm off his shoulders to link her elbow with his and tugs to get them moving. Hopefully there are cafes on this planet...?

How does anybody get warm when all the buildings are made of ice.]

[there are all kinds of things on this planet! some of the cafes even have cute little lights in the icy windows, and woodstoves on the inside.

and nel folds up his arms and hugs his hands to his body as they walk, trying in vain to restore feeling to his fingers.]

Oh yeah, they're super nice. There are two girls and this really tall blonde guy named Vash who's really cool.

Good. [Nel ought to be surrounded by nice people.

And she won't take them far, then. One window is full of little globes of light in different colors, not just white; she turns her head and looks in as they pass by. Cafe enough for her, so she takes Nel straight through the door and marches them to the counter. She's not exactly rolling in credits, but she has money for this. A little treat.]

Two hot chocolates, please. Do you have those?

[They do. Oh, good, some things are recognized everywhere, she thinks. She draws Nel to the side to wait for their drinks to be prepared.]

You like sweet stuff, right? [Who doesn't like sweet things?]

Oh, yeah. Sweet things are great.

[answering while his head swivels around, looking at all the things. new faces and new shapes, the elven visual brain buzzing along on its own agenda while he's mostly just along for the ride.]

...I can't believe how cold it is here.

It's pretty incredible. I wish we were here during springtime... [Because it can't be winter all the time, right? Rin looks around too, swaying on her feet a little bit.]

And that they gave us better gear for the cold. These sweaters are nothing and they itch.

Yeah...

[and reminding him about it just makes him colder. he hunches up his shoulders and scrubs his freezing hands over his arms.]

Winter was hardly ever like this, back home. ...Like, it would get like this sometimes, but it was always kind of out of nowhere, and didn't last for very long. But then we wouldn't have good coats, so we'd have to go out in this kind of thing. [--plucking at his sweater for demonstration]

[Nor. :/ The less said about it, the better...

... So fortunately their cocoa comes in the next second, mugs clicked down on the counter and left for them to pick up. Rin brightens. Good timing.]

Those are ours. Get yours carefully. [The drinks are steaming hot, with a saucer underneath each mug so they don't melt into the icy counter. Rin picks up her mug and leads them towards a table. The seats are chunks of ice too, with fur coverings through over the top to provide insulation between ice and clothing.]

[at least he's got good balance, as long as he's paying attention. and aside from glancing around to make sure he's not going to step on or bump into anything along the way, the scalding hot beverage keeps him nice and focused.]

...Do you think it ever gets warm enough to melt these buildings?

[--okay, so mostly focused, as he settles down in his new furry seat.]

That'd be bad for them, since they'd have to rebuild every winter... and it seems like that would be a lot of work.

[She sits down next to him, not across from him. The ice chunk seats are close enough that she can lean close to him.]

... But maybe it would really be good for them? It would be hard to live in winter all the time...

[oh good--he could use the extra body heat. regardless of the fact that the Fleet didn't supply them with much, he really doesn't know how to dress properly for this weather anyway.

he leans over his mug so he can blow on it and breathe in the steam.]

Ugh, yeah. I can't imagine it. ...But I guess elves aren't supposed to like winter anyway, so...

[She smiles slightly, softly, as she says it. She's kidding him a little bit but she also means it. Poor Nel.]

Maybe the winter just goes on for a long time. Doesn't it look like it must be so much work to make buildings like this?
