Windrose, where the wind blows

Who: Windrose crew and you, distinguished visitors!
Broadcast: Naaah.
Action: Windrose, various points in the near vicinity
When: Until we get off this frozen rock

[On New Year's Day, the crew on board the Windrose and those nearby may notice the chill as the doors to the cargo bay are left open, and their captain making quite a bit of noise as she inspects their newly expanded home away from home. This is likely to go on for a while. Feel free to come investigate, chat among yourselves, complain about the cold, etc!]

I'm Leia.

[It's the hair that gave it away, isn't it? Probably the hair. She's enough of a public figure that being recognized wouldn't be much of a surprise. The fictional aspect? Maybe a little more.]

Are you our engineer?

[Because, you know. The droid.]

[Oh, yes, I know exactly who you are, Castle thought, but kept it to himself for the time being.]

Maintenance, actually- think of me as being the almighty janitor. The droids came with the augment, and I just like to watch them work.

Important work.

[She knows how quickly things can get dingy on a ship--or a base, or anywhere. And she's glad it's not her purview, truth be told.]

Have you been on the Windrose long?

Yeah... not exactly what I did back home, but at least it'll be a useful skill here.

[He rubbed his chin, thinking.]

4 or 5 months already, I think. Time does fly when you're having fun... and even when you're not.

Oh? What'd you do back home?

[She'd assumed jobs were awarded with past experiences in mind. Han's a pilot, after all, and communications is a reasonable extension of her skills.

Her expression turns sympathetic at the words four or five months.]

That's--quite a while. Has it been difficult?

[She'd better not be stuck here that long. >:|]

I'm a famous mystery writer, in point of fact. I guess my mystery-writing skills were of no particular use here, though, so they assigned me something a ship would need.

[He still sounds cheerful despite everything, though. Because here he is talking casually with one of his- and his daughter's- childhood heroes.]

Well, the reality show part doesn't bother me as much as it does most people, since I'm used to being followed by papparazzi and having fans who are invested in both my real life and my work. Sucks being separated from everyone I care about, though. I was kinda busy planning my wedding.

Paparazzi?

[Sorry, Castle, she's not up on her Italian. But weddings, she does understand, and she gives him a mildly sympathetic look.]

Poor timing. Is your betrothed here with you, at least?

Paparazzi- they're photographers who follow famous people around to get pictures of them. Celebrity culture is a big thing in my world. I don't have it as bad as movie stars do, but every now and then I'll stop and pose for one. [He then shook his head.] She isn't, sadly... I miss her.

Oh. We have our share of those as well. [Leia rolls her eyes--she's had the odd experience or two with similar people, back when being an Imperial senator and princess took the bulk of her time.]

I'm sorry. [She can imagine how lonely that must be, even if she's fortunate enough not to suffer the same fate.] That must be difficult.

I've never had any crazy stalker-types, thankfully, but I don't envy the people who DO have to deal with that.

[He nodded, then sighed.]

I don't want to say I've gotten used to it, but at the same time, I just keep reminding myself that she's where she belongs, not stuck being entertainment for the masses.

Neither do I. [She might be a public figure of sorts, but she hasn't had more than run-of-the-mill hangers-on.]

She can carry on her work, and you'll have fodder for your holonovels. [It's fortunate for his soon-to-be wife, but not so much for him.] Is anyone else from your planet here?

Exactly. Everyone wins. [He nodded.] Lots of people from Earth, but they're all from different places and times.
