[ Obi-Wan is no stranger to waking up to unknown locations, but this seemed odd . . . even for him. He gropes for his lightsaber . . . which is gone, obviously. He huffs, before straightening himself and brushing his hair back. Communications . . . communications . . . ah, there it is.

A video feed. Somewhat archaic, but it'll do. He doubts anyone from the Republic will be nearby, but perhaps the locals will offer some aid. Obi-Wan clears his throat before speaking. It's time for his other skill set to come in use. ]

Greetings. My name is General Kenobi. To whom do I have the pleasure of addressing? And I don't suppose there is someone willing to answer my questions? Because I have a great deal many of them.

Just that you were time travelers. You are doing a decent job of keeping things under wraps.

[ He might as well let them know up front he's looking for answers. ]

[falconing]

[ yeah, well. luke's persuasive. ]

We try.

[ han can't blame obi-wan. he'd be doing the same thing if someone from his future showed up. ]

Atroma's been bringing people in from our chunk of the galaxy from all different points in time. Not our fault we were brought in ahead of you -- if it were up to us, we'd still be home.

[ on endor, celebrating the destruction of the empire. han had been looking forward to that party, damn it. ]

No. And I would not put blame on anyone without knowing more. I must admit, knowing the future sounds tempting. We Jedi only get a vague picture from time to time.

[falconing]

I'm sure it'll slip eventually.

[ there's absolutely no way they can keep anakin's future a secret forever. if it were up to han, he would've just spilled it already. but it's really up to luke, and if luke wants it secret, then it'll be a secret. for now, anyway. ]

Maybe you'll get lucky and someone'll turn up that won't care.

[beardstrokes]

Hopefully, that kind of intervention will be minimal.

[ He's . . . surprised by their dedication to keep things under wraps. It must be something huge. His death? Unlikely. His death would hardly be a huge impact and worth hiding. ]

[falconing]

[ yeah but who kills you obi-wan exactly NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW ]

I'll count your prayers and mine on that one.

Luke and Leia might be more forgiving than I am on the whole 'telling the future' thing but I wouldn't count on it.

[beardstrokes]

I would have never pegged you to be religious, Captain Solo.

[ And he's been informed now, somewhat ] Well, the proverbial beans have been spilled now.

[falconing]

I'm a very recent convert.

[ ha ha ha.

but he grows a little serious at that, and han shrugs a little. luke and leia being who they are is hardly the biggest difficulty with the future, but -- ]

Yeah?

[ obi-wan doesn't sound extraordinarily bothered. which is why han likes him. ]

Skywalker's not a very common name.

By now, it is an infamous name, I'm sure.

[ Anakin's . . . antics have cemented that. ]

I'm sure there is more, but I'm hardly in a rush. I would prefer to know more about yourself, though. A smuggler traveling with a Senator and a Jedi? How times have changed.

Luke's well known, I guess.

[ han is just going to pretend anakin still doesn't exist, thank you. but at obi-wan's question, han raises his eyebrows slightly.

it's not often that people want to know more about him. not that there's much to tell -- much up for the offering, anyway. ]

Yeah, well.

[ he's not really a smuggler anymore, is he. ]

Can't choose who shows up on your doorstep, can you? Luke and Leia needed my help, and I needed theirs. [ them. ] There's not much else to the story.

[ That's kind of hilarious, Han. ]

Oh, I highly doubt that. But I can see how you were charmed.

[ ... wait, what. ]

Charmed?

[ what the hell is that supposed to mean ]

[ He strokes his beard lightly, grinning. ]

Yes, I believe that's the right word. They are quite charming. And they slowly got under your skin.

[ omg obi-wan shut up ]

More like they wouldn't let me leave.

[ which is kind of true. sort of.

not really. ]

I tried ditching them on Hoth at least twice.

[ that is true. ]

Tried being the key word here. I imagine, each time, you found yourself coming back.

[ The Skywalker charm. It really works. ]

They must be very fond of you.

[falconing]

I never got off the planet because Leia wouldn't lift the damn shields.

[ also 100% true.

still, this is fishing for information, and han isn't stupid enough to not recognize it as such. but luke and leia are family, and really, that isn't a secret. it doesn't make them (or him) more or less of a target. surely luke and leia have spoken about him in casual conversation, and he's certainly done the same. ahsoka, too, knows. so. ]

We've been through a lot together.

[ that seems safe, without giving too much away. ]

Though I'm betting Leia's got a different definition of 'fond' than you do.

[ annoyingly attached and furious about it is more like it. ]

Actually, she hasn't spoken of you much. They've both been preoccupied. The fondness really comes through when you speak of them.

[ His protectiveness certainly shows. And he doesn't doubt that it is reciprocated. ]

[falconing]

[ preoccupied with anakin skywalker. which isn't a surprised, but not a welcome reminder. the thought causes a slight frown to appear, and han doesn't even bother being indignant over the ludicrous accusation that han deeply and immeasurably cares about luke and leia.

so stupid. ]

... they don't know Anakin.

[ which is the truth. anakin died a long time ago. darth vader is all leia knows of her father, and luke only really became introduced to the idea recently. ]

So I'm betting they'll be preoccupied for a long time.

[ which han does not sound happy about. and he is protective -- furious, really, that they even have to be put through this, but what is he going to do about it except wait for the thing to fall apart? ]

[beardstrokes]

He doesn't know them either.

[ Which he feels is important to impress upon Han. Anakin, too, was just as lost and confused as the twins. Still, the anger was odd. Anger because Anakin wasn't there for them? Possibly. ]

But perhaps they can learn from each other.

[ And some measure of peace can be reached. ]

[falconing]

[ good, han wants to say. anakin can continue not knowing them, and stay away from them, and prevent luke and leia from being heartbroken all over again. ]

Maybe.

[ han doesn't sound particularly convinced. ]

The Jedi offer second chances. I've offered it to many people.

[ Some being the worst of people. ]

And I think, if people did so, perhaps there would be lasting peace.

[ lasting peace. the idea is laughable.

how many lives had been lost because of anakin skywalker? how many people had died? how many people on alderaan were sacrificed because of darth vader? and if han were to be completely selfish, and ignore all of that, darth vader tortured him. froze him. sold him to jabba the hutt. attempted to kill him. -- attempted to kill luke, and leia, even after knowing that they were his children.

anakin skywalker becomes a monster. there is no forgiveness for what he's done. none. zero. zilch. luke might be able to do that, and maybe even leia can find it within herself, but han can't. not right now, anyway, no matter how much he tells himself anakin isn't a monster right now. he's still darth vader, to him.

so after a long moment of silence, han draws in a breath, and he elects to lock the feed. ]

Whatever they decide to do with him is up to them. If they want to dish out second chances, good for them. It's none of my business.

[ but -- ]

But I'm no Jedi.

[ he's promised luke not to tell anyone about what anakin becomes, but han also isn't going to lie. he has absolutely zero interest in pretending he's comfortable with their reconnection. ]

Luke's asked me to respect what he wants to do, so that's what I'm gonna do. But the minute he, or Leia, decides otherwise, that's where my cards fall.

[ it, at least, is said with as much respect as han can muster. obi-wan has nothing to do with this. ]

[ Obi-Wan has plenty to do with it. He would always defend Anakin, always. Even when he's angry with him, exasperated with him and so many other feelings that were deeply intertwined with this one person in Obi-Wan's life, his singular constant now. ]

I cannot fault you for that.

[ Not when it's become very apparent that Han harbors a strong grudge. But this does need to be clear. ]

But there is nothing in this universe or any other than can sway me from protecting Anakin.

[ obi-wan is young, and he hasn't experienced it yet. which is what han tells himself, to steel the indignation and the anger. he hadn't expected anything different, really. he had known anakin was obi-wan's student, and he knows he, luke, and leia are the only ones who really know the truth.

besides, han can hardly fault obi-wan for feeling that way when he feels the same way about luke and leia. ]

Good.

[ it's said finally, and han (for the first time since coming here, really) allows himself to look a little tired. ]

He probably needs it.

[ maybe luke is right and anakin does have half a chance here.

or maybe it'll fall apart and go straight to hell.

either way, the latter is unavoidable. but the longer they can stave it off while trapped here -- han will take that. ]

I imagine we all need some good news.

But thank you. It must have taken a lot to accept my stance on this.
