[ Obi-Wan is no stranger to waking up to unknown locations, but this seemed odd . . . even for him. He gropes for his lightsaber . . . which is gone, obviously. He huffs, before straightening himself and brushing his hair back. Communications . . . communications . . . ah, there it is.

A video feed. Somewhat archaic, but it'll do. He doubts anyone from the Republic will be nearby, but perhaps the locals will offer some aid. Obi-Wan clears his throat before speaking. It's time for his other skill set to come in use. ]

Greetings. My name is General Kenobi. To whom do I have the pleasure of addressing? And I don't suppose there is someone willing to answer my questions? Because I have a great deal many of them.

One of your first? Then you must have had another. I'm surprised they still allow me to teach more Padawans.

[ He imagines that his teaching ability is called into question every time Anakin . . . Anakins along. ]

Congratulations on becoming a Master. It is no easy feat. But I understand your concern. Quite often, I do not feel like a Master. But let's keep that between ourselves, shall we?

[ He tends not to let Anakin know of his doubts - in case Anakin interprets them wrongly. ]

[This is really awkward.

Because, okay, he's a Master solely because he's the last Jedi alive, so that doesn't really mean he's a Master, does it? He's only been doing this for a three years-- and yeah, he's strong in the Force, he's clever at it, he can think those things with pride. But that doesn't mean he's anywhere near good.

And it's awkward because he's not lying to Obi-Wan, but he's gently fudging the truth, which is sort of like lying. Easy to do so with Anakin, whom he'd never really known; far harder when he knows those wise eyes, that familiar accented voice. Younger, of course, but he dreads misstepping and getting chided.

So his answering smile is a little lopsided-- but it's genuine, for all that.]

That I can't quite believe. You've always come across as particularly all-knowing. But perhaps it's the beard.

[ He rubs his beard lightly. It's not the first time he's heard that. Sometimes he wonders if growing it out was the best idea.

"It hides too much of your handsome face." Satine had said. She always had the right of things, in these matters. Obi-Wan rarely paid attention to his looks and more towards how he presented himself. ]

Perhaps I'll consider a trim. But your father often saw me that way - as if I had all the answers.

Did he?

[His eyes dart about the video feed, as if he'll discover more about Anakin that way.]

As I said, I don't know very much about him.

Did . . . no one speak of him? Surely, I would have said more.

[ Anakin was famous. His name, spread throughout the galaxy as the Republic's greatest hero, the Man Without Fear. And yet, that reaction . . . belies some fear and trepidation. ]

You told me . . . some things. We didn't have much time to speak of him. You told me he was an excellent pilot. A good Jedi-- and a good friend. Beyond that . . .

[He lifts a shoulder.]

I heard a few stories once I left Tatooine. You don't hear many stories of the heroes of the Republic out there.

[ An excellent pilot at crashing. Still, it made sense that Obi-Wan would paint Anakin in a good light for his son. ]

No . . . Not on Tatooine, I imagine.

[ That planet rarely changes, even as the war does. ]

I'm surprised we met there. I rarely visit that planet.

A coincidence, mostly. You happened to be near when one of my droids went rogue. I was nearly killed by Tuscan raiders when you saved both of us.

[That seems an eternity ago, though it was only a few years.]

There are rarely any coincidences with the Force. It was meant to happen.

. . . Why would a droid go rogue?

[He huffs a laugh.]

He's a strange little R2 unit. And I was stupid enough to take his chip off him, so he could leave our compound.

[ There's only one R2 unit he knows that would display that kind of behavior. It was Anakin's droid . . . making his way back to Luke. Truly, if nothing else, it was the will of the Force. ]

That droid has always been precocious. Even with your father, but he loved him dearly.

My father owned him?

[Another connection they shared and Luke hadn't known. Far be it for R2 to tell him . . . though perhaps the droid had his memory wiped. But of course they shared the same droid; just as Obi-Wan said, true coincidences are rare.]

What-- I asked Ahsoka, but-- what . . . what was it like, being his Master?

[That's a far more socially acceptable way of asking what's my father like?]

Well, he was owned by Padme first but Anakin . . . adopted him, so to speak. They were rarely apart.

[ He (fondly) remembers the time Anakin lost R2 and went on a manhunt to find him.

Luke's other question was harder . . . How to express how Anakin has changed his life, completely and irrevocably, that a life without Anakin seems . . . duller. Oh, sometimes, he wished it were so, but those thoughts were seldom.]

Well, your father certainly enjoyed flouting the rules and authority whenever he could, but he . . . is dedicated to the Jedi Order. He questions but that does not overrule his compassion.

[ Anakin's strength was his overwhelming compassion. ]

Honestly, your father is hard to describe at times. He can be quite the enigma to most, especially Jedi.

I'm finding that.

[Dryly said, frankly, though Obi-Wan won't quite be able to appreciate that.]

Perhaps-- not now, but once you've settled-- I would be interested in learning more about the Order. About the teachings of the Jedi, both physical and spiritual. My own tutoring was . . . spotty.

[ Interesting that he would ask him. Obi-Wan wonders if he made a similar offer to his father. Granted, Anakin may not be the best choice when it came to the teachings of the Jedi. He bows lightly. ]

I would be honoured, to pass on whatever knowledge I possess. Whenever you're ready, seek me out. I never turn a pupil.

[It's not Jedi-like, perhaps, the brilliant smile that lights up his face-- but to learn more from Obi-Wan, to have enough time to learn all he wants to-- it's a rare opportunity, and one he's delighted to take.

Besides. If he's to rebuild the Jedi on his own, he'll need all the instruction he can absorb.]

I'll come by as soon as you're assigned a ship, then.

By all means. Take your time.

[ He imagines there is a quite a bit of . . . work to be done. ]
