So I know a lot of people are getting sick, and I know that chicken soup is something a lot of people recommend back home. So I wanted to make soup, but I couldn't get any actual chicken, so I got fish. It's been tasted and called not bad.

So um. I have soup. If you're sick.

[This sounds really lame now that she's saying it out loud. Ah hell.]

Robin, I'm bringing you some. And anyone else I know who's sick. You're getting some.

[She goes to Varric's bar because he announced his first. And it is very comfortable for her tastes. She finds herself a table, and gets a pint of whatever. Then she starts drinking. For a more petite girl, she drinks very very well. And she'll be there a while. Until they ask her to go. She's really not used to bars that have closing times.]

It's terrible! I mean, it's easier with most because we're friends and we joke around. I know of that day anything, they don't actually mean it. And Adra is very like a parent sometimes.

But Finrod's the worst. He's so courtly and tall and handsome and kind and educated. Like what people think princes are like.

And trust me, Finrod would undoubtedly be quite flustered if he heard this.

Flustered? Him? I doubt it. He'd probably pat my head and think nothing more of it. This probably happens to him all the time, silly girls getting doe eyed at him.

And I'm serious. Finrod is... Finrod is one of my best friends in the fleet. He's all the things you said but he can also be proud and he can be rash and our tempers are more than a match for one another... and I love him dearly for it. [She smiles again, this time without a trace of irony.] I'm not saying all this to give you a negative view of him, I'm telling you so you know he's not perfect, no one is. He's as perfectly capable of embarrassment as the rest of us.

I know he's not perfect. There's a lot he doesn't share, doesn't want to show. There's hurt in him, and pride, but also courage, strength, honor. It... comes of his flaws.

[And it just makes him more swoon worthy, okay. It's a problem.]

I've had more time, that's all. When I was your age, I was always putting my foot in my mouth and making a bit of a fool out of myself and it only got worse around anyone I had a crush on. And now... well, I've had enough romances in my life, both good and bad, to know how to handle my feelings.

Mmm. There was a man [Or. Well. Perhaps trying to explain the Trill should wait for another day.] about three years ago - or, I suppose four, now - whom I fell head over heels for. It was a whirlwind romance and it almost as if nothing else existed. Which, of course, it did. The world didn't stop turning for us and it turns out reality was more than I could handle, at the time. If had gone more slowly, been more careful, then perhaps...

[She shakes her head and takes a drink from her mug.]

But you called it a romance. He... loved you too, right? It wasn't one sided.

[It absurdly signed very exciting even if it didn't apparently turn out in the end.]

You two were happy, even for a little while?

He did and we were but... the point is, these sorts of feelings may embarrass or overwhelm you or make you feel silly, but you're not alone in that.

Maybe not in that sense, and that's good to know, but it makes it very difficult to be around some of them. Anders and Robin I do alright. The whole dad attitude -daditude?- with Adra helps. A lot. Sometimes.

But Finrod. Did I already say he's the worst? Because he's the worst. I mean, is it just me or does he...shine?

He is very... radiant, yes. [Though she's not so certain about him actually shining. She takes another sip of her drink and looks thoughtful. Maybe approach this from a different angle.] What are you worried about happening, when you're around him?

Making a complete idiot of myself. Making it so obvious he notices, and then he's uncomfortable around me and then the whole friendship is ruined.

[It's a bit dramatic, but she's young, and has a lot of ...issues, so it's to be expected.]

Syeira, that's not going to happen, I promise. Even if he somehow noticed - which again, I don't think he will unless you tell him directly, he is a kind and loyal friend and would never abandon you. Could it be awkward? Of course. But not enough to ruin your friendship.
