[ As promised, in a few days time, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan make their way to the markets. They dress warmly, Obi-Wan procuring a thick cloak for himself. It's hard to feel like a Jedi Master without one.

He watches as Ahsoka flits from stall to stall as he lingers behind her, to correct her on her "bargaining" technique. In a way, they resemble a teenager, saddled with a wiser all-knowing uncle. He strokes his beard in light amusement. This is probably what he needed right now, a reassessment of his priorities, the here and now. ]

Good thinking. I think all the parts shops are over this way. [Ahsoka alters course slightly, taking another bite of her apple as she does so. She chews as they walk, and Ahsoka spots a long stick on the ground, half buried in the snow-- some fallen twig or branch, no doubt. She picks it up with her free hand and twirls it idly by her side as they go.]

I'm looking for some stuff too. Let me know if you spot anything that might suffice for a temporal power converter.

And what, precisely, do you plan on using a temporal power converter for?

[ Why did Anakin have to pass on his tinkering habit. ]

[Ahsoka shrugs, a little sheepishly.]

Modifications for the ship. Captain Solo wants a race. So I thought I'd make the Starstruck go a little faster.

[As she says all this, Ahsoka's pace has slowed ever so slightly, and starts scribbling in the snow at their feet with her stick. Ever-so-lazily. As if she's just making random, lazy scribbles in the snow for the fun of it. In reality, she's writing in loose strokes of Aurebesh. Two words. "Communications jammer."]

[ He spends no longer than a few seconds on it before looking around. ]

That might be a bit tricky. I doubt they stock something that . . . advanced. Surely Anakin can help you put one together.

As if Anakin won't want to race himself.

... But you're right. I should ask him anyway.

I'm sure if you mentioned Han Solo, Anakin can be motivated to do plenty of things.

Wait, really? Do they have some kind of beef...?

They certainly aren't fond of each other. It's rather amusing, considering how alike they can be.

[ Both of them are hilarious overprotective. ]

I was just going to say...

But I'm sure Anakin would aid you either way. But it never hurts to have a little more pull over the situation.

[ They drift in and out of the stalls. ]

True.

I thought maybe there might be one inside our ship's maintenance droid, but... I haven't been game enough to try. I know enough to fix a ship, but... putting a droid back together is a little bit outside my expertise.

[ He grimaces. ]

I'm afraid that's not my expertise either. I barely know enough to get by and I've never been fond of droids.

Awww. Poor R4! He'll be hurt.

[ He makes a face at her. ]

Not unless you plan on passing it along.

[ Not that it's a secret. ]

[Ahsoka takes another bite of her apple, pretending to think while she chews. Then:]

Hmmm. What's it worth to you?

I beg your pardon, are you blackmailing me?

Hey. Not a Jedi anymore. So I can do what I want.

[She is mostly joking, though.]

Come on. I think that's worth at least one get-out-of-jail-free card.

[Are you regretting the lesson on bartering skills yet, Obi-Wan?]

[ Immensely. Though he's surprised she can make jokes about jail. ]

All right. But I hope you will tell me what exactly am I in for.

[Honestly, the phrase just rolled off her tongue before it even occurred to her.]

I haven't really thought about it yet. I'm just saving up.

[Be afraid, Obi-Wan.]

Yes, well, I will reserve the right to refuse in case it gets out of hand.

But you have my . . . ah, card for future use.

[ Not that she needs blackmail to do it. ]

Hey, it's not like I'm planning to get in trouble, or anything.

[Ahsoka, that is such a lie.]

It's just sometimes... trouble just finds me!

Yes, where have I heard that before, I wonder.

Trouble or not, do remember you have friends to help you out.

[Ahsoka blinks, and then her joking smile shifts into something a bit more sincere.]

... I will. ... Thank you.

[ He nods. It's important to reaffirm these things, once in a while. Whether he has done well as a teacher or not . . . it is still important to teach. ]

What else do you need?

[ They pass by a stall and Obi-Wan stops to purchase a small knife. Certainly not big or sharp enough to do harm, but enough to help him with his staff. ]

Hmmm. I could do with a signal modulator to boost the ship's asteroid sensors.

[Or, you know, cut off transmissions.]

We have another pilot now, and he's not Force-sensitive or familiar with space travel... I'm a little bit worried about what might happen if I'm asleep and he runs into trouble.
