[several days late, as has been the trend lately, the Shuffle's transmission plays for the Fleet.

...or, it tries anyway. the music doesn't even make it--just a punch of static with sad, scattered pieces of musical notes trying to struggle their way through.

when Diamond's voice is finally heard, it's only intelligible in three little bites.]

--Three disappearing from-- ... --new faces, so-- ... --Captain Halliwell--...

[and then the music blends strangely with other sounds, like someone flipping idly through broken radio stations. it takes some time for anything to come in clear, and every frequency turns up the same interference. it isn't until several minutes later that one signal suddenly stutters into clarity, and music begins to play.

wherever you are, they are playing your song! and if there are multiple people in the room, maybe the speakers nearest to each person are playing different songs, each specific to the closest passenger. and after the signal connects, the speakers will continue to play whatever song they started with, even if different passengers move toward or away from them, and will only play something else when the controls are messed around with. and the signals and machinery will continue to behave in this way sporadically, all through the month.]

First, we'd have to get to the shuttles. [ He glances over to the planet. ] Or I could probably just shimmer us down there right now. Actually, that would be easier than trying to figure those things out.

[You can't get all that far without teleportation ducts back home, so she's used to the general idea.]

[Did it actually happen to him once? He seems rather insistent. Anyway...]

Chris does that a lot, doesn't he? It looks convenient.

It looks like you might get dizzy, but I'm sure it's safe. We have something similar where I come, although you need special ducts to do it.

[It's really hard to tell her know when she seems so cheerful about it.]

[ Speaking of the devil demon, Chris shimmers back in. He looks a bit windswept from the breeze on the planet but no worse for wear. ]

Coast is clear. Ready for a trip?

Yes. How was it down there?

[The fact that he's here intact is a good sign, but it shouldn't hurt to ask just in case.]

[Varric is so fucking unsure.]

Wait. Hold on. Can you really... take both of us at once? We won't suffocate or something? Or end up in each other's clothes?

[ Chris gives Varric a tolerant but exasperated look. ]

Please. I've been doing this my whole life, I think I've got it handled. [ He turns to Shirley. ] Pretty good. Kinda chilly, but the air's fresh and there's definitely plenty down there to look at.

Fresh air.

[What a thought, after being on the ship so long. Shirley smiles. She trusts Chris to know what he's doing, so...]

I'm ready when both of you are.

[merchantprince]

I can't believe I'm agreeing to this. Am I drunk? Under the influence? Maker's breath, I'm actually sober?

[He checks himself to make sure he has everything, gun included.]

I'm ready. But if I end up with an arm growing out of my face, Prickly, I'm going to beat the shit out of you.

[ Chris doesn't even deign to reply to Varric, he just reaches out to take Shirley's bicep and Varric's shoulder and

It's kind of like being hugged by nothing and being nowhere for an indistinct amount of time, but when they land, they're whole and all their senses are working... and they might be a bit dizzy. All their pieces are in tact, however, and Chris is backing off quickly enough that they might need to find some other form of balance. ]

Now, was that so bad?

[Whoo. That was a ride. Shirley stumbles for a moment, trying to regain her balance.]

Is this what it's like for you all the time?

[merchantprince]

[Varric does not fall on his ass, but he is suitably gasping and freaking out.]

Andraste's sanctified ass!

[He needs a moment. He bends over, resting his arms on his knees, just to make sure they're still there.]

Phew. That was... something.

Kind of. I mean, I've been doing it... a while... [ Just about since he was born, actually. ] So I've never really had the...

[ He holds his hand out flat and then wobbles it. The dizziness. ]

You okay there, Doc?

[Shirley manages to get back on her feet after a moment, and once she does she starts hovering around Varric just slightly. He probably doesn't need help, but just in case...]

Is it something that you have to get used to?

[merchantprince]

[He shakes his head quickly, as if he just sprayed himself with water to wake up. After that he straightens and faces the others.]

Yeah, I'm good. I've never been so happy to see dirt in my life.

Yeah, you get used to it. At least it's not as bad as orbing. [ Because Chris will take every chance possible to give whitelighters shit. ]

Anyway. Here we are. There's a building over that way, I noticed.

[hearsthesea]

[Good idea to check that out, then. Shirley ceases her hovering and looks straight over at the building. There's a number of somethings surrounding it, although she can't tell what at this distance.]

Did you see what was around it?
