Log 002 | Video + Action - Can't Kick Those Old Habits

Okay, so I think I have the money situation figured out here.

We get money by being popular on this "show" and being "ranked" -

_{[ Can everyone hear his continued disbelief of this load of crap they are being fed, but fine he's playing along for the time being. ]}

But we can also get it on the station by offering to do work. Am I right? Which, by the way, just seems like it's adding insult to injury.

So aside from my making a cardboard sign and tacking it up in the space station, I'll set it out here too - I'm generally good with technology and fixing things in general, so if you ever need anything fixed I'm more than happy to get whatever it is you need running again for a fair price.

And if anyone has a recommendation on someplace to get good, cheap clothes on this station, I'd appreciate it. And real food.

_{[ He can only live so long between his uniform and the gray jumpsuit and replicated food items. That buffet on the Blue Fish ruined him to early. There are limits. ]}

_{[ As he said, he made his way down to the space station to see if he can drum up some business and start earning some cash. He hates being a free loader or being put on charity - he just hates being non-useful in general and he's terrible at sitting around and doing nothing. Besides, job hunting might also come with info hunting, so it's two birds with one stone in a sense. So off to find a job and some food that hasn't been replicated. It never tasted the same, no matter how much the product might say otherwise.

One really should not be surprised to see him chatting someone up, male, female, green, tailed, scaled ,or otherwise. It might be equally common for him to be getting slapped, and there's about a 65% chance of catching him in the midst of a bar fight if you find him later in the evening, or leaving in the company of someone. He did mention he had a reputation to keep up, and everyone needed some outlet for dealing with their situation. This was his.

He will try not to look to chagrinned making his way back to the ships come the morning though... ]

A Jedi, huh? I'm guessing that's not an army designation.

_{[ To say his views on generals had soured a bit might be an
understatement. Marcus had badly abused his power and manipulated Kirk
(which he still felt responsible for, letting his emotions blind him to the
truth he should have seen from the start). He had cost people their lives,
hundreds of them, and betrayed everything Kirk believed Star Fleet stood
for. The whole affair left a sour taste in his mouth, even a year later.

It's not. And shouldn't be one.

[ Obi-Wan's own take on war is pretty clear. He doesn't like it, but he knows that not acting is just as terrible. ]

A Jedi is more akin to a peacekeeper or diplomat. We serve the Force, so we are essentially neutral parties, looking at the galaxy as a whole rather than one part.

Huh, that... Almost sounds like Star Fleet. The Fleet works as a scientific, exploratory, and defensive arm for the Federation. It's our belief that we grow stronger as we connect more planets and exchange cultures.

[ Obi-Wan isn't too sure that analogy applies. Star Fleet sounds like an organisation with good motives, but the Jedi are an Order lasting thousands of years.

Well, he amends, until recently. There's little point drawing parallels when they both don't know each other that well. ]

It is a truth, I would say. We are all connected, though we may not fully understand how or why. A Jedi can perceive those connections, move events as the Force guides them.

_{[ He raises an eyebrow at that, not sure what to make of it, but to
Kirk it sounds like something more in line with religion. He's not one to
put down someone's beliefs though, and finds alien religions fascinating in
most regards. ]}

Sounds like you have your hands full - being a Jedi but aslo being a general in an army.

understands the circumstances so whom is he to judge? Though he does wonder
how one can claim to be neutral and yet "move events". ]}

I had a hard enough time just keeping my Captains seat!

[ He shrugs. ]

That's because you need to fight bureaucracy at its finest. A Jedi is a calling. You are one or you are not. There are no other sides.

[ Obi-Wan cannot be anything else. You could strip his name, his identity, his memories from him and he'd still be a Jedi. ]

Did you always know then? That you were a Jedi? How did you even know?

_{[ It's a genuine fascination with this concept. ]}

[ Hm. He takes his time with his response. ]

Being raised by the Jedi was part of it. I was Force-sensitive and the Jedi Temple was all I ever knew.

But . . . I suspect even if I had come in later, I would still remain a Jedi. It's hard to explain fully. When you spend your life being touched by a connection that weaves itself into the fabric of the universe . . . you can't let go.

No, I don't think you would.

I'd love to sit and learn more about the Jedi, if you're able to speak more on them. And I promise the coffee maker won't blow up in my presence - or any other machines for that matter.

[ His lips twitch, indulgent. ]

Well, I'm happy to elucidate the ways of the Jedi.

I'm eager to learn what you'll teach me. It's one of the favorite parts of my job - or the job I had back home. I get to meet so many different people and learn about so many different cultures.

The Jedi are more of an Order than a culture, though I suppose you could argue that they are a culture within themselves.

But we come from all corners of the galaxy. If you have the talent, then you are usually trained in it.

_{[ Sounding more and more like a religion, but that was fine. He liked
learning about those two, even if he might not agree with them. They could
be what made a certain culture unique, and he would never dream of
attempting to alter or strip that from a people. ]}

And what happens to those who don't "usually" get the training?

[ He shrugs loosely. For a monk, he seems oddly casual about this. ]

Nothing. Without the proper training, their abilities certainly don't progress any further. It usually subsides to instinct or strong feelings.

_{[ Hmm, interesting. So at the least there was some sort of real skill
involved in all of this. ]}

Interesting. Now I have even more questions.

People tend to let small stuff slide and take care of bigger problems, or sometimes the small stuff is just to expensive to bother fixing. I'm willing to work on smaller things for a cheap price, so people snap it up while they can.

There are quite a few people with those skills around. Though not as many as I would like. There's a surprising amount of people who have never left their main system.

Heh, true, which makes it competitive, but it's a big station. And I was never scared of a little competition anyways.

That wouldn't surprise me. I knew people back in my home town that never planned to leave that twenty square mile town, much less leave the system.

I've met people like that. So securely tied to their homes and livelihoods. I can't say I ever understood it.

[ But then Obi-Wan is temple-raised. He probably has a family out there that he's never even met. They simply exist. ]

For them it's home. It's a place they are comfortable and happy, and for some that's all they need in life to feel fulfilled. More power to them. For me, my home is a spaceship, so so long as I can return to her, it doesn't matter where in space I am.
