SS Pathstone Mingle

Who: Crew and visitors of the SS Passive Aggressive Pathstone
Broadcast: Probably not
Action: Aboard the ship
When: All February!

[with how good everyone on this ship is at settling differences, getting along, acting rationally, and sharing their things, this month will go by without any ripples.

the audience will be so bored. there isn't ever any drama on this ship. at all. it's great.]

[Thedas is a bit of a horror novel, frankly.

But there's no malevolence. Not from Cole. Cole has suffered, but he bears no ill will over it. He simply wants to make people feel better.]

Yes? Sort of. No one really knows why.

[It's amazing, really. Scary, too, but Cole is such a gentle presence that Mikleo can't resent or fear him for it. It's just odd- as a seraph, he's used to being the one viewed as strange or frightening.]

Why is a host and spirit an "abomination"?

It's the word mortals use. Abomination. It often doesn't go well. For the mortal or the spirit.

[Cole comes closer again, holding out both hands, palms up and open.]

A spirit is what is. I was Compassion. Solas had a lot of Wisdom friends. I met Faith twice, different Faiths.

What it is is shaped by mortals. Benevolent spirits don't interact with mortals much because it changes them. We... help. From the Fade. But we don't interact.

I heard a story once.

He met her in the Fade and she was Love. They spent the day together, simply enjoying one another's company. He summoned her again, and they talked of the Fade and the World and he fell more in love and he wanted her, to feel her against him, to keep her with him.

He summoned her a third time and Desire came and said "You wanted too much".

[It's a simplification of the story, but it gets across the point. By wanting, rather than merely loving, the mortal changed the spirit.]

Mortals change spirits. And when we enter them, we change them with the overwhelming nature of what we are.
nerdeology: (FUCK THAT'S ALL OF THEM)

[Mikleo listens quietly, fascinated, committing the story to memory. It feels like a different and dangerous kind of corruption, like malevolence, but linked to human nature as much as human emotions. With seraphim, at least the corruption only goes one way- humans are already too prone to creating their own corruption, so they don't need their spirits pushing them along.]

Are there no mortals of your world who wouldn't change? Or is that kind of coexistence impossible?

[This 'Fade' thing he keeps mentioning at least implies they're not entirely separated the way humans and seraphim currently are, but... it's kind of sad, even so.]

I don't know. I'm Compassion, not Wisdom.

Some mages can, I suppose. They accept us for what and who we are and let themselves simply be with us. We're predictable. I want to help people, stop suffering. Wisdom wants to learn. Desire wants all it can have of you.

[He gives a small shrug, looking off elsewhere.]

You should talk to Solas. He knows a lot more than I do. He taught me about myself and what I am.
nerdeology: (what? I didn't say anything)

[personal profile] nerdeology 2016-02-20 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Solas... is he here? Someone who knows about your world's spirits?

[That could be an interesting conversation, even if it's beyond his understanding. He does love to learn.]

Yes. He was here and then he left, but now he's back, and it's been months for me, and years for him. He's on the ship somewhere, but I don't know where.

I'll go find him. He can answer your questions a lot better than me. He's clever.

[Without waiting for Mikleo to reply, Cole turns and vanishes between one step and the next in a whip crack of smoke.]

[He just disappeared.

That. Is a thing that just happened.

He has no idea how. Isn't the spirit supposed to stay in its vessel?? How does the vessel disappear to??

WHAT IS THIS]
