[So, this is something he's been wondering - and eventually, seriously considering - for the last couple of months, mostly when they landed on Arslae and he realized how ill-equipped he is to deal with conflict. For most people, it would simply be a matter of avoiding fights. But for him... well. It's kind of all he's ever been good for.

Getting told that, hey, one of your crewmates is a murderer is more or less the last straw to break through his indecisive camel back.]

I have a question, mostly for whoever's gotten personal those personal augment upgrades you can buy, or at least thought about it. I'd really like to know- what's it like? Which did you choose? Why would you choose to get one- or why not? I mean, the people offering them up aren't exactly trustworthy, but they all sound pretty useful, too.

Basically, I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons. I'd appreciate the help.

[ Shinjiro was still fiddling with his personal communicator when Kirito comes in. He slips it into his pocket— he's wearing a long red pea coat over the charcoal utility jumper that seems to be the uniform standard. (He also has a beanie on his head, if that's noteworthy.) He stands up from where he'd been sitting— in a corner on the ground, for some reason— and walks over to Kirito. ]

Hey. So you're another one of my... crewmates, right?

[Also sorry for one day bleeding on your med bay floor, because with him, that's inevitable.]

[ He shrugs slightly. ]

This is reality television, right? I'd almost expect things to go to hell once in a while.

[Where is the lie though]

Yeah, the whole place did that within a month of me getting here. I was still getting used to the job and suddenly there's this big firefight and the whole system shut right down.

[ Shinjiro groans and pinches the bridge of his nose. ]

That's the kind of shit I can expect, huh?

Not on a regular basis, so don't worry too much. It was just a bad first impression. I can't say that anything like that has happened since.

[ Shinjiro waves a hand briefly. ]

I ain't too worried about it, anyway. There's worse things than a possible trial by fire.

[You could be facing death - or Death! - night after night. The occasional space dogfight and a lack of decent food is not the end of the world.]

Drama aside, how are you settling in? I know it gets kind of overwhelming at the start.

[ Honestly, Shinjiro is still sore about the lack of decent food, but he has the good graces not to mention it out loud. ]

This place ain't so bad. Space is new and weird, but it's still more normal here than the last world I got dragged into against my will.

[ Not that he'd hated Aather, but it was... weird. ]

You were in another world before this one, too?

[ Shinjiro nods slightly. ]

I was in a world called Aather for a while. It was a little like a fantasy world, including a big, bad evil threat.

Add that one to the list, then...

[There sure are a lot of them out there.]

There's tons of people in the fleet that were in a similar situation. Not necessarily the same type of world, but yeah. It's very strange.

[ Shinjiro tilts his head slightly. ]

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I wonder how many different worlds people here have been to?

This is my first experience outside of my own world, so you're asking the wrong person. It must get incredibly jarring either way, though.

I can look around for people.

[ He's curious, but not so concerned about it that he wants answers right away. ]

I don't think it ever gets less jarring, honestly.

I can't think of why it would. Every time would be a new world, right? Different people, different situation. That's not something you can just shrug off.

I got an opportunity to visit a few worlds by choice, and it can still be weird. It's definitely not boring, though.

I have noticed that trend. Not everyone wants to talk about the other worlds, but when they do, there's always interesting stories.

I can understand why some people wouldn't want to.

[ Some stories are too painful to share. ]

And anyway, who knows what kind of worlds we might find while we're a part of this... situation.

That, I can actually vouch for. I haven't been around that long, but I've already seen a few really amazing worlds! The stuff I saw while traveling with the fleet is great so far.

Oh yeah? What kind of places have there been?

Let's see... first place we visited after I got here was this desert moon- it didn't even have a name, people just called it EA009. It felt like being in an old wild west movie. Hot, sandy, with a bunch of little towns scattered all over. And horses! Zebra-horses. They were a handful.

Then we went to Arslae, which was on the opposite end of the spectrum. The whole place was frozen over, and there were monsters and a whole pile of temples and ruins to explore. It was a great place to rack up combat experience, and there was a lot of interesting tech here and there. If you see any foxes on some of the other ships, that's where people got them.

And now, obviously, we've got this station to explore.

[ He murmurs to himself. ]

It's too bad Dune missed the desert moon...

[ And then, louder: ]

The foxes were popular, then? [ He's actually curious about that. ]
