[he makes this disappointed little sound and his smirk is suddenly a frown.]

Everything's always about Earth, isn't it? We have them in Gratia, too...

[and you know what that frown is just going to keep going while he slumps down against the back of the chair, what little allure he had... disappearing with his will to keep himself standing upright.]

And I guess I'll ask. Hold... Whatever thought you might have had, there.

[and! back upright! he's walking away to the bar, but he'll be back.]

[He gives a shrug.]

It seems to be a popular world. We have plenty of birds in Thedas, just not that particular kind.

[Fenris watches him go, a touch confused. Wow, and he thought HE was touchy.]

[touchy? him? (well, yes, but--) he seems fine by the time he walks back, expertly balancing two drinks in one hand and two shots with the other. the drinks are blue. whatever's in the shotglasses are orange. he sets them down with the careful precision that only comes with overcompensating for loss of motor control--already chatting again.]

I got you this one because you're hair is nice. It's conveniently its own chaser. [barely a pause.] The shot, not your hair. I didn't say that well.

[he plops down in a chair next to Fenris, pulls his own drink over, and leans on the table... say goodbye to your alone time, buddy, because you have acquired one (1) Robin for as long as he can get away with it.]

So, what do you think about the Fleet?

[Ugh comments about his hair. Fenris sinks a little into his chair, it's never a compliment to him, but then again, he's so bad with compliments anyway.]

[Maker he is so awkward, years in Kirkwall, and months in Exslilium and his social skills are still awful.]

It is better than being forced into a war zone, though I would still rather be back home.

[he just... peers at him. swirls his drink around in its glass.]

[Fenris watches him for a moment, expecting more.]

Was that a statement or an inquiry?

[...casually scoots Fenris' drinks closer to Fenris.]

[He takes the drink and gives a shrug.]

I am simply well mannered.

[He isn't, not really. It's just a hard habit to break, being thankful for the smallest of kindness. He doubts he'll ever be rid of the feeling of unworthiness instilled in him.]

Well. [he takes a sip of his drink--still not great, but one of the less obnoxious flavors.] It was mostly just a statement, then.

[Fenris makes a small noise of assent, before sipping his drink. He would have been glad to remain in silence, but this monstrosity needs comment, as he pulls a face.]

Maker, are the drinks on all the stations like this?

Unfortunately, yes. [he looks down at his own, though he doesn't stop smiling.] Though, rumor has it that if you drink enough, you won't mind.

Yes, the swill in the Hanged Man had the same effect. I believe it was because it slowly destroyed your ability to taste.

Yes. [he looks perhaps a little too enthusiastic about that.] So okay, going backwards. You're new, think it's okay, not as good as home, not as bad as being enlisted as a soldier. This is your second nexus away from home, then?

[A hundred points for observation, Robin.] Hmm.

We were in space for a time with the Initiative, upon their moon base. It was.. [He pulls a face.] Cramped and unpleasant. Here, at least, we have a little more freedom, albeit a monitored sort.

Moooooon base.

[he really stretches that first word out, recognition slowly dawning over his face while he unpacks something from the overstuffed filing cabinet that is his memory.]

I think a good friend of mine had been in the same place for a while. She's gone now, but... [he tips his glass up onto the edge of its base, the drink coming very close to spilling out over the table. he appears to be completely oblivious of it.] You guys went on missions as part of a resistance movement, right? Not you and her specifically, but you and other people.

[He isn't wholy surprised. People came and went from the Iniative all the time, it makes sense that others would arrive here. It couldn't just be him, Merrill and Kaneis.]

That's correct. Usually it involved altering the flow of time. It could get...messy.

Who was your friend? I cannot promise I knew her, but I may have heard her name. [Just like Kirkwall, Fenris remained a ghost amongst his fellow soldiers. Very few got close enough to speak to him, let alone truly know him.]

Ugh, time... I've had enough of that nonsense for a lifetime.

[and he has a very, very long lifetime ahead of him. he pauses to finally have some of his drink, while he thinks of how far he really wants to go into it... but when he sets his glass down, he's got an answer.]

Rin Asano. Short, braided hair, carried a sword. Kind of scary. [and, as an afterthought...] Probably tried to play games a lot...

Wise. It often just made more of a mess of things. People were...lost. They ceased to exist, as some knots of time were unravelled, replaced by new ones.

[He hated it, he hates how inconsequential it made people's lives. It reminded him far too much of Tevinter, in that respect.]

Hmmm, no I am afraid I do not recall her. My travelling companion, Merrill, she may be able to help you. She arrived at the same time as I. She is a lot more prone to [making friends] speaking to others than I.

[he laughs a little, though it's not a particularly happy laugh.]

It's unsettling, isn't it? The idea that someone could vanish without a trace like that. Not even a memory or a question where they used to be, no one to be sad for them...

[WOW THAT GOT DARK he's going to quietly reach for this shot now if that's okay.]

Anyway, I might ask. I might not. Maybe I don't actually want to look too far into it.

[he does not mention how Fenris said "prone to" rather than "used to" or "inclined towards"... like she's got some sort of bad habit or affliction rather than a positive facet. everything about Fenris is already pretty telling, but he logs that one away anyway.]

We were sad for them. We remembered them all.

I do not blame you. There are some questions no one truly likes hearing the answers to.

[like the flick of a lightswitch, his mood changes--he leans back in his chair, finally, so that he can quickly down his shot and tap the little glass back on the table.]

Hurry up and take your shot, Fenris, before it gets room-temperature.

It is not like we had much choice in the matter.[Though, even given the chance, he would not have his memory played with. Never again.

Fenris sighs, picking the glass up, giving the liquid inside a tenative sniff, before downing it. ]

Eugh. Maker, what is in this?

Pineapple. It is a short-lived suffering, thankfully.

[he will drop all of the stuff about time and memory for now, since it all goes to bad places. they are drinking now. things are a-ok.]

May I ask what you do? If you have a vocation, or anything of the like.
