[as he falls in front of her, she looks up, startled... and her face is a mess, with her makeup smeared and smudged all over. her eyes are kind of red and puffy. she immediately starts stuttering out a really quiet apology:]

Oh my god, I'm s-so sorry, I wuh- [SMASHES her face back into her knees and talks into her legs.] --Oh god this is s-so embarrassing...

Hey, don't be sorry! It's fine, really. [ he moves the hand not on his knee to her shoulder as a comforting gesture. ]

What happened? Why are you crying?

I just... [buuuuuh, she is so not okay right now. she's kind of mortified that she's been found by someone, not to mention that they know her... she's going to keep talking into her legs if that's okay with everyone.] It's just...

[sniffle, whining...] I saw my friends in the forest and I really... really miss them.

[ ...oh. he knows that feel very well. he hadn't seen any of his friends in the forest, but who he did see probably hurt even more, doubly so considering what's weighing down in his pocket right now.

but this isn't about him. this is about Krista, and as much as he misses Kratos, that feeling has to go on the backburner for her sake. so he puts the heaviness in his chest aside as he shifts a little closer, moving his hand so that it's rubbing at her back. ]

...It's okay. You'll see them again, I know it.

But what if I don't!

[her head pops back so that she can look up at him with big, watery eyes. she was trying to keep it under wraps, but that's just the thing--she's been struggling with this for almost a year and a half, and the forest just forced it right in front of her.]

What if I don't see them? What if I never get back? Why hasn't anyone found me yet?

Someone will find you!

[ seeing Krista crying shakes him up a little, but he can understand where she's coming from. he hasn't been away from home as long as she has, but it's still far too long for him to be away from home when there's still unfinished business to attend to. even though it looks like he's fooling around, he still hasn't given up in finding a way to be sent back to Aselia. he looks away, trepidation and uncertainty clear on his features. ]

Look: I'm scared too. I've been stuck here for months even though something bad's going on back home, and I know I'm not the only one here that's got problems back home too. I'm scared that something even worse will happen, especially if I'm not there to stop it. [ that uncertainty disappears, and he looks back to Krista with solid resolution in his eyes. he gives her shoulder a comforting squeeze, bringing a fist in front of him to further emphasize his resolution. ]

But I'm still not giving up. I'm not giving up, and right now I bet my friends back home aren't giving up on me either-- they're probably even looking for me right now.

That's why I haven't stopped looking for something: a plan, an opening, whatever. We'll find a way. I don't know how, but we'll find a way so that everyone can go back home!

[from the outside, that would probably sound... really cheesy, really silly. the kind of optimism that she doesn't really have room for in her day to day life. but... here, when she's so miserable, it's actually... really encouraging.]

Really? [it's not a very smart response. but it's the only thing she can think to say. they're really going to keep looking, after all this time?]

Really.

[ cheesy is what he does, and it's what helped him save his world. it's tough. he knows how tough it is, but he can't lose faith in himself or his friends, not when he's placed so much trust in them. ]

Right now, I bet your friends are doing whatever they can to find you and bring you home. And even if they don't find us first, there's no way these bastards are gonna keep us here forever. I know we'll get outta here.

[ he offers her a reassuring smile. ] So don't let it get to you, okay? Stuff doesn't happen instantly, but it does happen.

[she takes a couple of deep breaths and tries to stop being so scared--he's probably right. she loves her friends and... she knows Barnabus and Professor Thorne, they wouldn't just abandon her. Anton wouldn't either. she wipes away at her face with her sleeve.]

I'll try... [sniff!] I'll really try, I promise.
