[ you will find zuko in one of several hallways, surveying the scorchmarks with the world's most unimpressed expression. at first, he's almost hopeful that it's not what he thinks it is, but with a quick burst of fire and a sweeping motion of his arm, he mirrors the pattern almost perfectly.

sigh.

his sister, it seems, has already made her mark on the ship. literally. ]

[While Zuko is doing nothing to improve the fiery state of the walls, a man appears who happens to look nothing at all like his sister. This man is Logan and he's walking along with a single claw extending from his hand which he is using to peel a plump, purple fruit from the station. He looks none too impressed to see what Zuko is up to.]

We're all full up on pyros here. Ain't looking for another.

[ and, suddenly, why azula set some walls on fire makes sense, because zuko is approximately 50% more stable than his baby sister, and even he takes offense at being called a pyro.

the fire is gone with a roll of his wrist, and he turns to frown at logan, looking none too impressed by his existence, either. ]

[He nods.]

She's a real doll. You related?

[There's not an obvious resemblance, aside from the eyes. But it seems a reasonable assumption.]

[ with the tone that 1) zuko isn't necessarily thrilled about that fact and 2) don't kill his baby sister or else ]

What made her torch the walls?

[A sibling, huh? That does add a wrinkle. He wonders if the older brother is going to be looking for payback.]

[... but then Logan doesn't particularly care if it does.]

Did she attack you first?

[ which is really going to determine whether or not zuko cares enough to stand up for his sister, because azula most likely deserved what she got. ]

She didn't like me callin' her bluff.

[It was a round about of saying yes, but with at least enough context to make it obvious he wasn't fully innocent either. Logan wasn't looking for forgiveness or conflict, but he didn't feel any need to conceal his part either.]

[ which leaves zuko to stare at logan for a long moment, judging his answer, before -- ]

[ in a huff, and zuko turns to stare at the wall, irritated ]

Don't you have anything better to do than to call the bluff of a teenager?

She hasn't hurt anybody since she's been here, and if people just ignored her and let the people who know her deal with her, this wouldn't happen.

[ in irritation. now he has to go check on his fucking sister. ]

[Was Azula always there, or did she just appear out of nowhere?

Either way, she's suddenly in the corridor too, leaning against one of the walls casually, arms crossed across her torso.]

Zuzu. How nice of you to visit. To what do I owe the honour?

[ there's a sudden tension, at azula's appearance, but as zuko glances over at her, he rolls his eyes and dissipates the flames with a snap of his wrist. ]

I see you redecorated.

[ azula smh ]

There was a crewmate in need of reminding of the pecking order around here.

[It didn't actually end well for Azula, but Zuko doesn't know that, so she isn't going to tell him. Let him assume she won.]

Don't worry. Nobody died.

[honorbends]

[ zuko is about to ask whether or not anybody died when azula answers his unspoken question, and while that's not exactly promising, at least... well, no one died. ]

Isn't the person in charge the captain?

[ as he glances at the wall again. azula must've been properly furious, to leave that much of a mark. ]

Or are you already trying to usurp authority?

[ zuko almost adds 'again' but he, you know, has a modicum of self control ]

The current captain is a fool. A farmer from who only knows where. His reign won't last long.

[ ah, familiarity. ]

What do you know about him?

[ zuko is a little curious, really. and he should probably talk to the captain of the ship and warn him that azula is a little crazy. probably. ]

A kind-hearted nobody from nowhere. He has some small amount of power, but is easily taken advantage of.

[ definitely going to talk to the captain. ]

[That's actually an astute question. Azula is surprised.]

[ -- although kate's at the far end of the corridor with her arms crossed, she's not actually at ease with what she just witnessed. as cool as she tries to look, there's an edge to her posture that betrays it all. ]

[ ... oh. well. zuko dissipates the fire quickly, frowning at her. firebending has been seen as a negative thing for so long that he's not so surprised people are uncomfortable, but -- ]

[ and he sounds genuine ]

I was just seeing whether or not they were caused by firebending, and not by.... uh, someone else. Or something else.

[ pause ]

Firebending. [ she repeats. ] Is that what it's called?

[ a stiff nod at his name, but kate isn't quick to volunteer her own. ]

[ there's a pause ]

Do you want to know how it works or do you want me to just never do it again while you're around, because I get that a lot.

[ firebending in his world is still kind of a touchy subject whoops thanks dad ]

I can handle it, actually. [ she isn't flame retardant -- but it's not like she's never seen its like, before. ] But thanks for the offer. That's...mighty thoughtful of you.

[ there's the underlying implication that kate doesn't mind what he's doing -- but she does mind the possibility that he's here doing it without permission or notice. ]
