[As is common with new arrivals, there are a few very confused moments of waking up and scrambling around before the Fleet's newest arrival manages to find and switch off the nearest camera.

About half an hour later and significantly less panicked-looking, he switches it back on. Some quality time spent with his augment answered the pressing questions, like where am I and why aren't there any weapons here, and that he's not going to get an answer to are my friends okay without a little further input from him. So. If they're here, he reasons, they'll recognize him.]

Shouldn't there be more people here? Or do I get to be the only lucky winner this week?

The name's Finn. There are people on the other ships out there, right?

See. A lot of us hung out planetside most or all of our lives. You're also going to meet a lot of people from Earth.

I mean, sure, a lot of people do that where I'm from, too. But there's just as many who make a ship their home, or half and half. Travel some and stay in one place some. [He's not actually sure which one he'd like best--just that he wants the one that lets him be with his friends.]

The Earth system? Never heard of it.

[Most of the people from his world she's spoken to seem to have logged a decent amount of time in space. Then again most of them can also use the force. The Atroma have biases that make things seem a little uneven. Not everyone from her world is a superhero either, but it's be hard to know that from the Fleet sample!]

You will. Different versions of it. The Atroma play favorites. [So did the wardens at the prison. Seriously, what's up with that?]

[Truly, it is a mystery.]

Yeah? What do I need to know? That's important about it, I mean.

Oh, what you'd need to know about mine wouldn't be the same as what you'd need to know about someone else's. They can change a lot between realities from mutants to vampires to wasteland to thriving. I guess there are always humans.

Lot of places have humans. Mutants I get, but what's a vampire?

Mutants you get, huh? [You're picturing something with two heads aren't you? Okay, not that her kind couldn't have two heads.] A vampire is someone who needs to drink blood to survive. [And who is occasionally a very sweet, easily confused, lonely stalker.]

Sure. Radiation shielding fails, things mutate. Or there are all those old stories about creating mutants with alchemy, but no one can figure out how they did it so it's probably not real.

...Huh. [Not the weirdest thing he's heard of, not by a long shot.] Does synthblood work? Or does it depend on the vampire?

We do have someone here who practices alchemy. [A couple maybe. Greed too?] And I'm pretty sure the fake and animal blood depends on the individual. [Hell, she'd known living and dead vampires for that matter, but she only knew of one in the fleet so far and she doubts he even knows the answer.]

But I'm a mutant. No one created me. No radiation-related accidents.

Maybe they know. It's all legends to us.

Could be worse. Some kinds of peoples can only eat like one kind of fruit, ever. Really dangerous for them to travel.

[Finn squints, but she looks close enough to base human that he can't tell the difference.] Yeah? Does that, uh, happen a lot in your Earth?

Often enough. It has it's perks. [And downsides a mile long she won't get into.]

So where you from? Not that I'll recognize the name. [Unless it's Coruscant or Tatooine. She's heard those.]

Yeah? Maybe your branch of humans has unstable genetics. Could be environmental, too, if you don't travel a lot. [Like some weird backwater Outer Rim planet, sheesh.

THAT IS ACTUALLY A DIFFICULT QUESTION and it seems to throw him for a loop. Finn's quiet for longer than normal before he answers.]

I traveled a lot. I don't really know where my parents were from.

Some people call it evolution. [It's contested and maybe a little too close to comfort to Apocalypse's line of awful, but if you're going to look at the downside might as well mention the upside.]

Guess so. Maybe another couple thousand years and you'll be your own race. There's a lot of near-human-looking aliens.

[He shrugs, trying not to look too bothered by it.] It coulda been worse. Friend of mine was stuck on a desert planet for her whole life and all she wanted to do was go back.

Well, if it's home it's home. Sometimes you can find yourself missing terrible places.

I keep hoping she'll change her mind and do something better. It's--I feel like it's not a good choice for her, you know?

What makes you think you know what's better for her than she knows for herself?

It's just a feeling. I know she's got her reasons and it's none of my business, but--

[Finn grimaces and shrugs.]

She was so overwhelmed when we went to Takodana--this big forested place--and that was just the first planet we got to. There's a lot more out there than Jakku.

Trees are great, but I think people tend to outrank trees. If her family was on the desert planet I can see why she'd want to be there. [Just assuming of course since it was home. What are the odds everyone has lost their parents, right?]

[Finn looks down. He's pretty sure she doesn't have family there, actually, but she never would say why she had to go back, just that she did.]

I know. I know. It's just a feeling I have.

As long as she's safe, that's what matters.

[She's not sure what to make of the story, but the guy clearly cares about her. It doesn't seem like an ego trip.]

[He says it softly; the last thing he knew she was unconscious in the snow and things weren't looking good for either of them.]

These places like doing that the most I think. Really set you on edge and confuse you. Instead of just grabbing you from brunch or something.
