How does everyone deal with loss? How much of an impact is it meant to have?

Similar. Unrelated. Is anyone familiar with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? I would like to know more.

[ If you happen to be on the Iskaulit at any time in the wee hours of the morning, between two and six, you may run into Winter utilizing the gym. There aren't really posted hours, and that's usually when no one else is around.

The poor sandbags that he helped Jim hang all those months ago are getting a beating. Winter's focus is zeroed in on the same worn spot, but apparently something gives. Winter reels his left arm back, a high metallic whine the only warning before he lands a blow. It's enough force that not only does it knock the sandbag from its hook, but it goes flying across the room like it's nothing.

Emotional? Who's emotional? Nobody here. Mind your business! ]

[ Action >> Heron ]

[ Winter may have been restless before, but without Jim, this is something new entirely. Crew have been coming and going regularly over the past few months, but this is different. The Atroma decided that he should be captain? Over someone who would probably be more capable at it. He sees what you did there. You just couldn't pass up the chance to not have to change names in the roster, huh?

He's trying to wrap his head around it. Sure, he led teams on missions as the Winter Soldier, but that was different. He wasn't really calling the shots. Being Captain is new and scary and leaves room for so much to go wrong.

If anyone wants to bother him, or happens to be visiting, he is more than likely roaming the halls trying to burn off the nervous energy. He's comfortable with the ship, but now he wants to know it inside and out. ~~As if he hadn't already done that.~~ Honestly, he is distraught without Jim and doesn't know how to handle it. It's not as if he can talk to Natasha about it, either. Or Steve.

The message is more than clear- don't get attached. ]

[ squares up. she's learned some punching forms and how to really throw a proper punch. she's okay at it ]

[Excuse what? He wanders closer, an odd sight of sorts in the gym; his sweater's too big, like someone who doesn't usually buy kid's clothes purchased it a few sizes over, and he's apparently foregone shoes. Or doesn't have any. Winter's trained eye might also notice the more telltale shape of a small holster beneath the sweater. Takeshi himself, however, is all lightness and easy-going smiles and blushes.]

It was cool. My dad, he can do stuff like that. Even without his cool super suit.

You must be a real good fighter; I can tell these things.

[She isn't going to lecture someone she's just met on the pitfalls of revenge. It isn't her place.]

All you can do is try. You'll never know if it works for you if you don't.

I do suggest talking to someone you trust, if you can. It really does help.

No. [ he agrees, a hint of a smile in his expression. ] That's Carter.

[He's resting his chin in his hand, watching the doorway when Winter emerges. Once he's there, Erik returns his attention to the food, grimacing slightly as he cuts another piece off. Terrible stuff.]

It's not the largest space once you've become familiar, is it.

[Only a couple of weeks in, and he's already feeling the closeness of the ship.]

I would like it, yes. [ as empty as the words sound, they turn to be pointed. peggy chooses a spot on the edge of the captain's bed -- eschewing chair or trunk or anything else. ] Question is -- do you want to stay? Maybe you'd feel more at ease somewhere else in the ship.

[ although she's resolved to stay, she can't help but prod. like she wants winter to profess to some measure of preference. to own an opinion. ]

but sara -- she doesn't do feelings, or so she says. so she shifts her weight from one foot to the other, keeping her eyes on him, and offers:]

How'd you feel about a spar? Could be a nice change of pace from beating on punching bags.

I'm not really sure who I would talk to.

[ Read: I don't know who to trust that much. ]

She isn't, either.

[ Peggy isn't what he would consider a handler. A commanding officer, but none of the arrogance or forcefulness that other handlers had as far as he can remember. They were different every time they decided to thaw him out. ]

Oh. That makes it harder, huh?

[Swing and miss. Winter had never struck her as someone to easily "lighten up," not that she doesn't understand why. Her tone and expression become more sincere, more concerned.]

I know that we have not conversed often.

[She acknowledges that she shoulders a large amount of the burden on that. Knowing their common tie to Hydra, Wanda had more or less pulled back from Winter. However, given the recent departures in the Fleet...]

But I know you were... acquaintances with Jim and Natasha.

[The word "friends" didn't seem like one that would exist in his repertoire. Or rather, it was a word that likely didn't carry much meaning to him at the moment.]

Well...you seem to be talking to people. Is that helping at all?

Anything I can do?

[Rogue was a little surprised at that greeting. It showed for a moment before her brows furrowed, her posture shifting back as she settled her weight and answered him directly.]

Lookin' for you. I saw your post. What's goin' on?

[ Sorry, Rogue, he's a little stressed out. Not that it's out of the ordinary for him. His expression matches her own confusion briefly. Oh, right. ]

Didn't know who to talk to. I'll refrain from it in the future if it bothers you.

[ He watches this small rapscallion come closer, though he keeps an eye on that concealed holster-- potential for a weapon. Not that he can't take out a child if he needs to, Winter just doesn't want to have to resort to that. Seeing a child around the Fleet is different. How old is this kid, even? ]

What does the suit have to do with it?

[ .... ]

I get by. [ Smooth. ]

[ Unfortunately, there are only a few people with that ability, and all but one of them are gone now. The timing is just off, it's okay. ]

It's best that way.

[ He knows how it looks, he's not stupid. The people who were responsible for keeping him in check aren't in the picture anymore. He's a time bomb. Winter stops when she mentions both Jim and Natasha. The tightness in his chest squeezes just a little bit more. ]

[ He leans against the door frame, watching as Erik returns to what he's doing. Nothing is going on in the halls, and he really hasn't interacted with the newest addition to their ship, yet. ]

The Atroma changed it. It didn't used to feel so cramped.
