[ -- if peggy stops at a nearby vehicle yard, it's only because she's already come to expect she might fight max among the tires and wing-mirrors. whatever reason she's looking for him today, however, doesn't much mutter. and when she spots furiosa -- who she recognizes from the network, even with her face half-covered -- she stops a few feet off and raises her hand.

meanwhile, she's opted for a full mask. ]

[She's working on the engine of a speeder, one that didn't perform to her tastes in the last race and needs some tweaking. She's pretty involved in it, but looks up when she notices movement out of the corner of her eyes.]

[It takes her a couple moments to figure out who it is, but then she's up and wandering over while she rocks a wrench in her belt.]

You're on Max's ship, right? Peggy?

That's right. [ her smile is hidden behind the mask's bulk, but even the thick glass covering her eyes can't hide the bright and friendly crinkle. peggy knows when to be serious, certainly -- but she feels no harm in trading warmly with furiosa, no matter what sort of world she hails from. ] I was actually looking for man. I thought anywhere with wheels might be a great place to start.

You're not wrong. I think I saw him headed out on a run earlier.

[While Furiosa has been opening up lately in some small regards with certain people - Peggy included - this world has her on edge and she can't quite seen to return the smile.]

What do you need him for?

I know he disappears. Sometimes. [ the nuance of her voice is lost beneath the mask's shuffle -- emotion stripped away until it's little more than a tinny sound. ] And he reserves the right to do so. But...

[ a wide, almost dismissive gesture with her hand. ] I also reserve the right to check up on him, from time to time.

[ it's not exactly a hospitable planet. and after what happened with the iced over lake... well, peggy takes her role as first mate rather seriously. she likes to know where people are. what they're doing. where they can be found. but in max's case, a simple message over the network isn't good enough. half the time, he doesn't answer. ]

No matter. It's not pressing.

[Furiosa nods.] He does seem like he needs looking after, doesn't he? But he's managed through a lot, he's tough.

[I.E. You don't need to babysit him, but this coming from the woman who is currently wearing little more than a scarf to fend off the poisonous air.]

Do you drive?

[mucked]

I do, actually. [ despite having the luxury of a good driver often available to her. ] Not frequently, I confess. I've never owned a set of wheels myself, but the opportunities haven't been lacking.

I take it you're quite comfortable in the driver's seat? [ she'd have to be, to be working as she does. ]

[kill_switch]

You couldn't survive if you didn't know how to drive a rig or maintain it. [She nods back at the landspeeder she's working on.] I'm almost done upgrading this one, there's a second one if you want to head out for a spin.

[Casual race offer, are you up to it, Peggy?]

[ peggy laughs -- warm, and a little surprised. ] Bless me, if you're suggesting what I think you're suggesting...? You'd have me beat. Hands down. My experience has mostly been with military jeeps and motorbikes -- and the occasional soft-top cruising car. Nothing near racing speed.

[kill_switch]

[There's a crinkle in the corner of Furiosa's eyes as she smiles a little beneath her scarf.] There's a first time for everything. Who knows, you might discover some hidden talents.

I'll tell you what. Let me broker a friendly match between you and a friend of mine, instead -- Howard Stark. He loves to tinker with a good car. Never quite managed to make one hover. Yet.

[kill_switch]

I'm game. He's in the Fleet? [Maybe a little disappointed that Peggy's not up for it, but she's still looking forward to a chance to get out on the road.]

He is. Often making a nuisance of himself.

[ -- apologies, furiosa. but she knows when a thing is beyond her humble limits. ]

Hm. Sounds like the Warboys. I should be able to handle him. [That's when you need to expand your limits, Peggy ... of course, that's the world Furiosa lived in.]

See that you do. [ there's a glimmer in her eyes. ] He could do with a good handling.

Oh? Something of a trouble maker? [Furiosa catches that gleam, Peggy. What sort of mischief is the Wastelander getting into?]

[mucked]

Rather. Full of himself, certainly. And an unquestionable wanker. [ ... ] But a good man, beneath it all. He knows right from wrong when it counts.

[kill_switch]

I'll be sure to take him down a notch. [She's had plenty of practice with the Warboys, certainly.]

[mucked]

He'll show an uncommon interest in your arm, I'm afraid. [ peggy nods towards the device. she herself had yet to remark upon it, but she figures it's worth mentioning if howard's getting involved. ] Either tell him to shut it or ride it out. Your choice. Only he's something of a scientist with tunnel-vision for such things.

[She quirks her brows and glances down at her prosthetic, flexing it for a moment. No one's ever really commented on it, but she's already preparing herself to shut him down on either its construction or why she uses it in the first place.]

He'll learn pretty quick it's not a subject open for discussion.

As he should learn. Dress him down as you see fit, only -- [ well, she knows how things seem to be settled in furiosa's world, thanks to max's insight. ] Only do keep in mind he's more of a scientist than a warrior.

Maybe it's time he learned. [Trial by fire? Or rather, race?]

[ dryly amused: ] Oh, he ought to have learned years ago. Best of luck to you.
