I have a feeling you used to beat your sister at chess then. Apparently there are lots of ways to play. [Her last match was a romantic one. "Mind chess". Two geniuses without a board doing their best to picture where everything would be while calling out their moves. It was a better date than a match.]

I've glimpsed at it. I try not to look too long and hard into the timelines of others. It gets very messy and it makes it hard for me to separate myself from the if and the now.

[ It also makes telling time very difficult. Often his memory relapses to the future or the past. Too much happening all the time can do that to a person. ]

I wouldn't envy that. [She's glad to have a physical power, not that she ever got a choice in the matter, but it's hard enough knowing your own mind let alone others. Not to mention telepaths and the like were especially hunted in her world for destruction of service to the Shadow King. No thanks.]

I barely even believe it exists. [Well, not the future at all, but her place in it. She did as a child. She was full of dreams and plans. And then years of loss and death seemed to finally work away the last of it until it was rare for her to think more than a few days in advance. She had the moment and she'd hold on to it at least.

Falling in love and relaxing in the prison had changed that for awhile. She started to see a future with someone even with the painful uncertainty of the prison. It was either the most hopeful or foolish thing she could have done and of course that was taken away.]

It exists, even when people try to take it. Many have tried to impose their own laws and limits on the future.

My dream is for a universe of surprises, where anyone can live from moment to moment. Free of any predetermined future.
