[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

[Finn looks up, startled because he was deep in contemplation. After a very brief moment, he seems to relax and nods.]

I don't have that much money yet. Just got here.

[Finn rubs the back of his head, looking rueful.]

But I kinda like the different designs.

_{[ Kirk chuckled and nodded. ]}

Yeah, some of them are interesting. I guess I just worry about functionality getting sacrificed for looking pretty.

_{[ He glanced out the window of the shop, out into the polluted air and beyond to the tops of the forests that surrounded this place. ]}

And if you want to go exploring out there, I don't think standing out is going to work in your favor. Just a feeling.

But why would they be here if they didn't work right? [Don't they want people to be able to breathe out there?

But as for standing out, he shakes his head.] I think we're all going to stand out anyway. And look at the people who live here - most of them have some kind of interesting mask. Well. The ones I've seen.

I mean not work as well as some others. I'm sure they work, but I want one that works the best and won't fall apart under strain.

_{[ He had to agree with that, but that was the city, and not the forest. ]}

Yeah, but I have to wonder if those masks are just for around town. You don't wear your pearls to go hiking, after all.

Oh, well, sure. Wasn't planning on going hiking--[he purses his lips]--but maybe I ought to get a heavy-duty one in case I have to. One of each.

[Having redundancy is a good idea, if he can afford it.]

_{[ He nodded. ]}

Plan for the worst case scenario - always a good way to think.

_{[ He held out his hand to Finn and flashed him a bright grin. ]}

Jim Kirk, by the way. And I would go with the leather and gear looking one personally. Very retro, you know?

Finn. Good to meet you. [He shakes the offered hand firmly and then taps on the mask he's describing.]

This one? I don't know. It looks like something the Sand People of Tatooine would wear.

Hah, I'll have to take your word on that. I haven't been to Tatooine yet. On Earth, this sort of thing is called steampunk - or it's close enough to it. I was never really into that scene.

_{[ He looked over the others again and pointed to one that seemed to glow. ]}

How about that one? It looks pretty fun - like a party on your face.

[Another Earth person. Interesting.] 'Steampunk'. Can't really say I was ever into the fashion scene.

[Finn makes a face.] I don't need to be that much of a walking target.

I grew up on a farm - fashion was what could take punishment for at least a year before breaking down. First time I really went to a big, big city where fashion might really count was when I got recruited to Star Fleet.

_{[ He laughed and looked around them again and pointed to one that was far more subtle, but still had some flashes of gold and polished leather. ]}

What about that one?

[Finn nods, taking that in. So Earth--that timeline of Earth, anyway--had a space fleet. He's pretty sure some of the others didn't. This time travel thing is hard to keep track of.]

That one's better. You think it would stay on in one of those riot games?

_{[ It's easier if you just roll with it, Finn. Trust him. He's had some very close experiences with time-travel and thinking to hard on it results in a migraine for a week. ]}

Tighten it up enough, sure.

_{[ He raised a brow at him. ]}

You wanting to compete?

[Story of his life, at least lately. Just roll with it.]

Maybe. Probably. [He flashes a grin.] Some of them look kinda fun, and they said they don't let it get too serious. I could use an opportunity to keep sharp.

_{[ He nodded, having passed by them earlier, thought he hadn't stayed to look on to much. ]}

The shuttle races looked fun, and I think I saw something that looked like a mix between rugby, football, and soccer with what I suspect was a baseball bat.

I'll leave the shuttle races to the pilots.

[That sentence was mostly gibberish to him, but Finn nods like he knows what those words mean.] And I saw something like looked like dueling with padded swords. Maybe I can find one of those to buy so I can practice.

_{[ Kirk suspected Finn might not know what they meant, but he wasn't asking for clarification so he didn't feel a need to expand. Probably for the best - he had never been much of a sportsman anyways. He was a chess sort of man with some combat practice thrown in. ]}

I think they have some practice grounds around here. Maybe they'd rent out some of the equipment?

I bet so. They're pretty big into these war games.

[And that might work well enough while he saves up some more money, if he has enough time.] Do you think we'll be here very long?

_{[ He shrugged. ]}

I'm not sure to be honest. We were at that station for awhile, but I've only been here a month. But as far as I know the Fleet doesn't need repairs and we're not delivering anything this time around. So I don't see a reason to hang around for very long. But I'm not in charge of the Fleet, so - who knows?

_{[ He didn't like not knowing and it showed on his face, but there
wasn't anything he could do about it was there? No, there wasn't, so for
now he had little choice but to roll with it. ]}

Just make the most of it while we can.

[Finn narrows his eyes and nods. The ships follow the Marsiva and it seems to be approaching the moon rather than moving away, so he supposes he can keep an eye on that as an indicator. Wouldn't want to be too far away when it gets out of range, because this teleporting thing doesn't sound fun.]

I hope we get to stick around at least a little.

_{[ Kirk wasn't worried about teleporting or even being left behind.
Atroma would keep them, he was sure. Otherwise why go through all the
effort to take them if it could simply lose them by them going out of
range? Range did NOT seem to be a problem at all. ]}

I'm sure we'll get some time. Honestly, between you and me, I want to get a look at those terraformers if I can.

Yeah? Sounds like they're beyond me, but--good luck.

[Yeah he doesn't know anything about that kind of technology. The war games are much more up his alley.]
