[Max shoves the top of his bat at the man's face to shut him up.

......... Guess who broke rules earlier and got shoved into this mess.

[ Oh.

Truth be told, Theon has been preoccupied with raging about such silly things being called "war games" that he hadn't actually expected retaliation. Surprise indeed. He takes a step back, looking irritated, but doesn't retaliate just yet. ]

Are you really going to take part in this child's play?

[ Or are you just going to grunt at him Max ]

[... He shrugs.

And then swings his bat at the guy's head, apparently unperturbed and used to such things; also, he's not a fan of talking. BATTER UP, MY FRIEND.]

[ Somehow, Theon manages to scramble quickly enough to duck Max's swing. Apparently, that is a yes, which means Theon is now forced to partake as well, lest he be marked as craven. ]

Have you nothing better to do with your time?

[ Rolling his eyes, he takes up his own bat and swings. How silly they both must look. ]

[Max blocks the bat roughly with a grunt.]

Do you?

[ No. The answer is no, but why admit to that when you can lie instead? ]

Of course.

[ He lets out a huff of laughter, because this is pointless and how can a winner even be chosen when no one can be hurt? Come on, Max. Get mad. It's your name. ]

And I would be happy to go about it if you would stand down.

[ But he still swings the bat again anyway and hopes for the best. ]

[The bat thumps against his arm, but Max's sturdiness is perpendicular to his height, aight. He seems to consider the offer to stand down for about — ... No, actually, he doesnt' consider it at all. He just tries to thump the poor guy on the crown of his head instead.

CLEARLY HE IS GREAT AT NEGOTIATIONS, MY FRIEND.]

[ Theon is taller than Max, but he isn't nearly as sturdy, and his height doesn't give him any sort of advantage here. In fact, it makes it harder for him. The more height you have, the harder it is to duck a blow to the head. So his head is thumped and while he doesn't see stars, it hurts more than he expected from something so flimsy.

He's angry now, so he tries to grab hold of mask Max his opponent's mask instead of retaliating with the bat. ]

Stand down.

[ I guess they're officially BFFs because they're beating one another up, and that's how Theon shows he cares. ]

[His expression darkens the moment Theon's hand lands on his face mask — and oh, yeah, he's getting some particular memories, enough that his immediate reaction is to look like he's going to probably bite some fingers off.

... But he's being good.

So instead he'll let Theon rip off his mask; surprise, he doesn't need it for a few hours before getting horribly ill. It's a wastelander skill, don't feel too sour about it. Behind the mask is a snarl fit to cut glass, eye twitching. But INSTEAD OF BITING FINGERS HE VERY POLITELY STEPS IN AND SLAMS HIS FOREHEAD FORWARD, AIMING FOR THEON'S FACE.

See, he's being good.

Even if they're probably gonna take away points or disqualify him for that but whatever.]

[ THEON YES--

Oh, wait. Wait, no. This might have turned out better if someone had told him no before it even started, because even though he thinks quickly enough to move out of the way, it isn't quite quickly enough. Max's forehead collides very nicely with the left side of his face, leaving Theon looking stunned.

It takes him a moment to recover, but instead of matching Max's snarl, he laughs. It's the very best medicine and it disguises pain in all forms. He knows this from experience. ]

Is that how it is, then?

[ AND NOW HE'S JUST GOING TO TRY TO COPY THAT MOVE BECAUSE FUCK YOU MAX. IF HE'S LOSING, HE'S TAKING YOU DOWN WITH HIM. ]

[Success! Max is jarred backward, clearly seeing stars for a moment, and then he shakes his head like a cat flicked in the nose before looking plenty offended. He's lunging with his full body at Theon, a guttural, rabid sound bursting out of his chest, just as the other natives move in and grab him to pull him back out of the ring.

"You both lose. You suck at this," a wayward bystander says.

Max gives Theon a death stare from over someone's shoulder, calmed but still SO OFFENDED.]
